  1. well my secret is out of the bag city gym, wat chet yot, photharam road, soi 9 on the right from the super highway.

    Hi patong,

I drove to photharam rd, but couldnt find any gym on soi 9. Mostly houses there.

    Cheers!

  2. Dear CM folks,

Besides the 50 baht one-time usage at the gym on the 3rd floor of Kad Suan Kaew and the gym in the 700-year old stadium, are there other one-time usage gyms with a couple of machines & dumb-bars for occasional users like me?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. My relative(aunt) has advanced stage breast cancer and the monthly cost for the chemotherapy (radiation not needed) is slightly more than US$2k.

i'm not really sure whether she's currently receiving the new "monoclonal antibody" treatments but we will find out the technical details from the doctor at her next visit. Her funds has run out, and for the rest of the family members, it's a tough decision on what to do next. :)

Even if it is cheaper in Thailand, we are not sure if she is willing to move & spend her final days (she's in her 70's) in a foreign country with us.

    Sawasdee Khrup, Khun Nokia,

Please accept my sympathies for your Aunt's condition, and for the stress you and your family must be experiencing dealing with her situation.

This may, or may not be relevant, but : assuming your Aunt is a U.S. citizen, you do realize that the US MedicAid program is not going to cover any expense outside of the U.S. ?

There are some other issues to think of also :

    1. the possible extra cost of imported medications in Thailand which your Aunt may require ?

    2. the possible variation in treatment that the oncologist here might prescribe compared to the oncologist or clinic back in the U.S. ? would an oncologist here be willing to follow another doctor, or clinic's recommendations ?

There are so many unknowns here : I think going out to Sriphat with as much detail as possible on your Aunt's cancer's TNM Cancer Stage Classification , treatment plan, medications, etc., is the best thing you can do to plan further.

In terms of your Aunt's choice and future, may I suggest your family in the U.S. be in contact with the American Cancer Society's local chapter; they often are expert at helping people connect with resources.

    best, ~o:37;

    SawadeeKrap Khun Orang37,

Thank you for your sympathy & for bringing out very relevant issues. Although we are Asians, not Americans, but the points 1 & 2 that you mentioned are very true. We are not sure whether any imported medications are needed & whether the Thai oncologist will follow the doctor back home's recommendation. We will keep these in consideration . Thank you for your advice.

    best regards,

  4. I live close to Hang Dong, Nam Phrae,

Try this guy (sorry I don't have his name) TEL 081 8831005

The charge should be about 500 baht or less depending on the size of your tank

    Gladiator

This guy did a good job & cleared the tank(full) for 800 baht. I asked for discount but he said no.

    Thanks Gladiator. :)

  6. Dear CM folks,

I have a relative who needs regular chemotherapy for cancer, and is considering coming to Chiang Mai for chemotherapy if the costs are reasonable.

Anybody knows the approximate cost of a session of chemotherapy or is the cost based on a case-by-case situation?

    Thanks anyway!

  7. dear CM folks,

I am thinking of shifting the air-conditioner from the floor of the balcony to a higher place on the balcony, and the staff at my apartment quoted me 2K baht for the job.

Is the price rather high and can anyone recommend a reliable air-conditioner technician?

    Thanks in advance.

  8. So which gold shop in Chiang Mai is more reputable & reliable, assuming you buy & sell within thailand?

    Warorat market? Carrefour?

Must you sell back to the same gold shop or can you sell to another gold shop?

    Thanks in advance!

  9. Since the way we lead our life makes the living room a place of the daytime and the bedroom a nightime place, I would consider moving the aircon out into the living room where you, umm, live.

We keep our living space at a comfortable temp then, a couple of hours before bedtime, use a standard floor fan to direct the coolness of the living room in thru the bedroom door to bring it down to a reasonable temp. Then we turn off the aircon and use windows & fan to cool the bedroom since, even in this peak heat season, the outside nigthttime temps are quite pleasant.

It's a 12K BTU unit in the bedroom, but i will probably need a 20K BTU unit in the living room, so i cant really move it.

Nevertheless, it's an interesting idea to blow cool air from the living rm into the bedrm door.

During the cool season, the outside temperature drops quickly in the evening, but during this hot season, the outside nighttime temps become slightly more pleasant usually after 9-10pm.

Move the fridge to the bedroom.

Maybe i could get a mini-fridge & put it in the bedroom? :o

Or maybe i could move the microwave oven, book shelf & just about everything else that i need into the bedroom & hibernate there. And the bedroom will becomes like a crowded studio apartment. :D)

  10. With the aircon in the bedroom set at a comfortable 26'c, the living room without any central aircon becomes a blistering hot oven at 38-39'c. So each time i stepped out of the bedroom to get something ie from the fridge, it becomes quite uncomfortable.

Maybe i need to install an airconditioner unit in the living room too? Any novel ideas besides that?

    Cheers!

  11. swim at your own risk, it is very dirty. there are better pools at baan nai fun and home in park, food is better.

Are the pools are baan nai fun & home in park open to non-residents? I dont mind trying their restaurants though.

The pool at wang tan is on most occasions clean. We have used it for several years. The exception is right after a rain the water turns green color (chemical imbalance?) and the kids stepped on some broken glass in the shallow end one time and there was no interest in cleaning by anyone. No staff on hand, just someone to take money. The restaurant has raised prices 2 times in past year with quality not improving, I do not take friends there to eat. Just check pool prior to use or taking kids to use it.

I noticed a small cleaning machine by the side of the pool. At least it had been used.

Many pools in CM, especially those in small hotels, have not been cleaned for days/weeks.

Yes unfortunately the restaurant had raised its price since last year. :o

Is there any other decent restaurant along CM-Hang Dong road or in Hang Dong town to recommend??

  12. Recently i visited Ban Wang Tan for lunch at its restaurant & noticed a small clubhouse & a nice big swimming pool.

I wonder if the pool is open to public?

Alternatively, is there any pool open to the public in the Hang Dong area?

  13. Dear Nokia,

if you change school and the school is not qualified to help you to obtain the non-immigrant ED visa then it seems like that you won't get it.

You won't need to leave the same day your school finishes but the day your non-immigrant ED expires (Most of the time, there are some days left between the end of your curriculum and your visa expiration).

    Hope my answers help!

    MTL Ae

    Thanks for clarifying. MTL Ae

  14. Looks like we found our place! Opposite Kad Saun Gauw, lots of parking space. We have not signed a contract yet but hopefully this week. Took three trips to CM to find it. I will update on the progress. Now we are looking for a good reliable construction company and an architect. Any suggestions?

    Walen School

    www.thaiwalen.com

That's a gd location. May i ask how long does it take to construct ur place? I need a visa & study Thai quite soon...

    Hi macwalen,

Anything along Huay Kaew Rd will be a good location.

Kad Suan Kaew shopping centre(NW of moat) or nearby as there are many parking places in the shopping centre.

On the other hand, if your target group is CM residents, then how about Kad Farang at Hang Dong, which is 10km from CM. There is a Rimping supermarket there, lots of parking & maybe the rents are lower?

I think most CM residents either drive or ride big bikes.50/50%?

    Cheers!

  15. How is what you want different from the film used on car windows?

The DIY film can be the same as car windows. Is it available at HomePro or anywhere or must i ask the car accessories shop?

    Thanks.

  16. Hi,

Let's say i apply to study Thai at a university & after geting a single-entry non-Ed visa, i study full time for 3 months.

If after that, i decide to move to another city to learn thai at a non-visa school, will a simple document saying "So-So is studying in this school" from that school be enough for extension?

Or do you need a complete certified document from governor of province as stated below?

ANd does it depend on the individual immigration office? Once the university inform the particular immigration office that the student is no longer studying, must he/she leave the country immediately?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers!

  17. Nokia, I have a feeling that for a special situation like yours it would be better for you to make an individual arrangement with the school rather than ask the school to commit itself on a public forum.

    Maestro

Maestro, i think you are right.

Maybe it's not wise for me to ask such a question on a public forum.

Kindly remove this thread. Thank you.
