  1. [ “We received permission last week to demolish the buildings and the tennis courts on the site [for the new building] within 90 days. We will issue a notice to ensure the current occupants of the building at that site vacate the premises before we demolish the building,” he said.

Also to be removed are the tennis courts that have proved very popular with Phuket Town

    residents. ]

Shows where the priorities of the council lie. Nice home with Heliport, good because it will soon be a 3 hr. drive to the airport. Tennis Courts, get rid of them who wants them anyway, fleecing tourists is the most popular sport here.

If it weren't so serious, Phuket and the comments of it's officials are becoming a joke.

  2. The law firm banner ad., with the hermaphrodite looking creature centre of screen [ if thats the ad the op refers to ] has now moved down the page.

Another Law firm ad with a few nobodys looking busy, is at the moment, just above the reply box.

Means to me one of two things. 1. There an awful lot of people on Phuket in dire need of Legal assistance ( an oxymoron if ever there was one ) Of that there is no doubt.

or 2. Google reads the topic and chucks in the ads it thinks will be well read or more importantly, clicked on.

    I'll settle on # 2.

  3. Aint that the truth, I posted my 3 month visa application from Ballina on a wednesday to them and had it back the following monday approved, couldn't believe how quick they are, they must have posted it again the day they got it. Even with this one they said I will probably have it approved on the same day if I wanted to wait, unreal.

    Dennis

    G'day Dennis.

Sent you a PM re. flights to Bne. My old lady's got a passion for Frangipanis too. Yea Bill Dunn and his wife lovely couple, Been getting visas from them for what must now be 15 yrs. They have the most amazing Burmese Cat, must be 22 years old by now, still alive when I last saw him around 25 Aug this year.

A bit off topic I know but feel a good reason to ensure you read the PM.

  4. Thank you all for swift replies

    @Sportsman69

I found this in yellow pages, thats the one?

    http://profile.yello...520873070505001

Yes thats the one Phuket Tools though the map is all outa whack Its at the start of Sakdidech Rd, or however they spell it.

Living in Kata is trying to send you to Bangkok Hardware. on the other side of town. Totally unrelated except the words sledgehammer and hardware.

Read again my post # 2

LiK is probably correct sledge hammers are everywhere. You wanted one with fibreglass shaft, good call. The impossible to find takes a little longer Hence to save time and money I would try Phuket Tools first. I gave you his mobile number, maybe cost you 3 baht at the most.

You can mention my name Stafford, sport club, if you wish,

  5. @ThailandBert

Lots of things don't add up here. blink.png

This is just one of many.

On a similar vein regarding the rights of " the owner."

Some here may remember years ago a dilapidated windmill on the banks of the lake outside the back door of Wat Chalong. It was busted up pretty good with half the fan rusted / broken but the tower and gearbox in reasonable shape. It was a viable project and It would have been perfect to circulate the water in our fishing lake and could have be repaired economically. I eventually found out who had responsibility for the mill. From memory it was the plumbing Dept. of the local Or bor Tor. Had several meetings with the guy in charge who totally agreed it was an eyesore and an unsafe structure and it should come down. So in a bid to help both parties I offered to remove the structure at no cost and also to pay 50,000 baht to the Or Bor Tor or any charity they nominated. He thought it was a great offer and would see his boss.

Next day got a phone call, sorry no can do. Why ? Well you see that over 40 years ago it was bought with public funds making the general public the owner and can never be sold to anyone. I said are you sure. He said he even offered them money himself but because of the paperwork that went with it, no one could have it. I had my doubts, I could feel some tea money may be asked for. Nah, not one baht.

It was proven about 2 weeks later when they, the Or Bor Tor, bulldozed the whole structure into the lake costing them money rather than 50,000 in front. dam_n shame, it was a piece of history that could have been saved.

  6. Very respectful and sympathetic post, sportsman69. (Irony) You're bang out of order using that tone, mate.

Apologies for any offence. Agreed it should have been worded different, but my thoughts remain the same

Firstly as I should have done, I wish that the victims may rest in peace and that their families have satisfactory closure.

    To explain.

I was referring to the inept attitude of the local police, using the word "solved " with no proper investigation, just the assumptions of the police. We care no more, end of story. I guess a similar reaction to the poor unfortunate girls on Phi Phi where the local police claim the Canadian Embassy and the bereaved family ORDERED the case closed, Nothing could be further from the truth.

" Next." I'm referring to who are the next victim or family placed in this situation. It would seem there is no investigation or even thought. as to how these unfortunate deaths can be prevented in the future. How many this year in hotel pools?

  7. Well here's the scoop. A message from Zara at Yacht Haven Marina reads as below. Tel: +66 (0) 76-206704-5

    Hi,

The yacht is \ was owned by a guy in prison...in fact she is now owned by

Bkk Police, we gather. He owes the marina and others a lot of money.

Despite this we regularly pumped water out of her (she has been sinking a

while...) & checked what we could to keep her floating. The boat has been

on a mooring over 3 years now; she broke her line in a storm and ended up

safely in her present place, on the mud bank clearly charted...damaging no

one else. Legally no one can touch the yacht, she is police property. The

marina endeavoured to put a light on her but this keeps goes "missing" by

    the following day.

We suggest, if someone is concerned about a boat in the immidiate vicinity

of Yacht Haven Marina they should contact the marina office, even if we

are not responsible. Hopefully we can help.

    Thank you.

  8. phuket tools in town, sam korn, i think is the area, just past phuket bkk hospital, going towards phuket,on the left.

sorry sportsman we must have posted at same time

Know them well. Think their name is Phuket Hardware, Expensive and relatively uncooperative. Check the price with below recom.

Believe me Chaiyot is the man. Have got everything I've ever needed at the best prices.and if no stock, down from BKK next day, no extra freight. Saves a goose chase all over town.

  9. Phuket Tools just after the start of the road on LHS, off Chao fah east, with the indian car yard on the corner, which goes to the aquarium. Boss name Chaiyot, fluent english. Tel 08 9730 3526 Will order if not got.

  10. short answer, it appears to be sinking.

i would suggest the automatic bilge pump is out, water collected below decks while it was heeled over and once it was able to float freely again the water collected to one side caused it to remain at an angle.

A few more good rains and it could go over completely.

    but that is pure specualtion

what we do know for sure is its going to cost somebody alot of money to get the damage sorted

why doesn't someone go out there and pump it out,the marine police would do it,surely

Probably because the owner is not standing around waving bundles of cash. Marine salvage ain't cheap. Another fact I think the days of sincere camaraderie amongst fellow yachties is slowly disappearing.

I'll pass the link on to a few I know.

  11. This is all getting out of hand. Reminds me of Roman times and the colosseum. I thought the human race had progressed, sadly not, well at least not here in Phuket.

If it must happen at all they should be forced to donate a pint of their own before any permission is granted to " perform " or participate in the blood letting.

By the looks of some of them it would need very strict control to ensure quality of the donation. I can see the headlines now. " Massive outbreak of aids and blood diseases in Phuket. officials fear tainted blood from / to vegetarian festival participants."

  12. Could someone please explain the meaning of the OP's statement........

“strutting their stuff” around the selected provinces. What exactly is their "stuff" ?

Do they have some special ' tricks ' in store. Yea, the Hadd Yai presentation will be something special, all dressed up in bomb suits and burkas. crazy.gifcheesy.gif

BTW. I can only count 34 in the picture despite the tag that says 60. Poof !! Have 26 been taken out already by mercenaries b/4 even getting to Hadd Yai, drowned in the pool, there's been a lot lately, or is it the usual crap standard of the Phuket Gazette at work again.

  13. Pretty vague gestures. Comprehensive plans would be more helpful to show he is really serious about improving Patong. This guy has the clout to bring in a decent public transportation system but this rates no mention. Yes he, his family & mates might be making big money with the existing system but surely they could devise a way to have a public transportation system that is much more beneficial & cost effective for both the local populace & tourists alike while still making money through a private company.

    Val.

You and I have both lived here long enough to realize that in Phuket and especially Patong, enough is never enough. The greed is insatiable. The Mayor is sprouting bullsnit on a daily basis, his words mean nothing, he is, In true politicians fashion, simply telling the people what they want to hear. The truth is irrelevant. Any person with 1/2 a brain can see through it, and to try to change the status quo is akin to pissin' in the wind. The way things stand there is no solution without high level government intervention and that won't happen either as they've got their noses in the trough as well.

" Pian Keesin, launching into his final term as Patong Mayor "..............one guess as to who his successor will be.

  14. " In all seriousness don't you think the best way to describe the location of this restaurant is saying "right next to wine connection chalong "

I tend to agree that in a normal situation that would be sufficient and to avoid confusion. Here we have the complication of 2 Wine Shops both in " a fisherman way "...situation. One being Wine Lovers which is in the Rawai location, the other, Wine Connection which is in Chalong.

Together with the Google map and coordinates that leaves NO doubt.

  15. My take on this is that it's a modern day internet version of the time honoured joke of sending the new apprentice to the tool store for a 7" population wrench and a long weight. ( Or one of it's many variations )

In this modern day approach the prerp ends up with a sheaf of emails and results of posts in forums like this one for his trophy cabinet or to share with his mates elsewhere doing the same thing. Basically getting a buzz out of wasting peoples time. There's probably a few man hours gone in here already.

I seem to remember something 12 or 18 months ago also in the PG, advertising some other equally obliquely described article/s but alzheimer's is hindering further recollection. I think it made it to TV in a similar way. The name and Rawai location seems to ring a bell along with a German overtone to it. It may have connotations of a secret code amongst foreign agents, who knows.

Hey, we may know more when stevenl releases the findings of his detailed google search recommendations.

That's enough time wasted by me on this subject. Anyway I wanted a set of 6, 5 is just not enough. crazy.gif

  16. I think one is called Fisherman Way (Rawai) and the other is Fisherman Way Business Centre (Chalong).

    Correct KB.

To remove all doubt it is diagonally opposite, ie, north west of Mike's Bikes and F1. Visa Run, which is exactly 1 km north of Chalong Circle after passing the police station. In the same complex as the Wine Connection and Woody's Sandwich Shoppe.

Lat. 7.83104 Long. 98.344326 to be precise.

  17. What a rust bucket, luckily its burnt because it looks past its use by date'

Rumor mill has it that it was decommissioned and 'parked up' awaiting salvage. Probably a last ditch effort by the owners to sell it to the insurance Co.

" Planned to depart to Sri Racha " with a crew of one,? has certain smell about it.

Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong. An empty gas container is almost as lethal as a full one unless meticulously cleaned and neutralised.
