  1. Hi,

I live in Phuket, by the sea and have a small garden.........

I want to grow "passion fruit" really good tasty yellow and purple varieties to plant. Has anyone got these locally?

I'm going for bougainvillea "Royal Purple" Who can show me the way to an existing flourishing plant that I can take cuttings off

    G'day Goggsie.

Can maybe help out with some of your enquiries. Atm we're picking about 10 kg of fruit both red and yellow a week. The yellow is far more productive but the red is sweeter. Our elevation is about 37 meters, which I think helps the flowers 'set', not sure what results " sea side ", though at Mike's Bikes in Chalong the PEA demanded we cut the vines b/4 they arced out the high voltage tansformer!!! :) We have seedlings of both available.

Re the bougainvillea if you happen to call by on Sunday the wife will be home and possibly be able to point you in the right direction as well as pass on some valuable self taught local gardening tips and where to get this and that. Click my profile for location and a phone call 081 607 2805 to arrange a time would help.

    Cheers 'n' beers.

  2. Homepro, similar to Rocwool.

Already been to HomePro, HomeWorks etc. They don't have the high-temperature stuff.

I know the stuff you're looking for, I remember it being used for insulation for hot water systems, stoves and the like. If you Google the manufacturers of these items you might get a lead.

Hydrochloric acid I bought from Rawai hardware in 5 gall container some time ago.

For both items it would be worth having a chat with khun Chaiyot at Phuket Tools in Sakdidej Rd Phuket town. He speaks perfect English and is a wealth of knowledge on where to find hard to get items.

    Good luck.

  3. Also depending on what country you are going into, the declaration of the cigarettes will get them confiscated and thrown out. AFAIK pretty much every where even Thailand itself the rule is 200 cigarettes per adult and that's it. Tobacco and alcohol fall under special rules, unlike consumer goods like clothing or jewelery over the amount allowed, you declare it, then you pay duty. There is no option to pay duty on tobacco and alcohol, declare it, and hand it over. Or you can try to get through, most likely you will, but if you do get caught you will be detained and charged. It's not worth it.

There is really no problem with this issue. Simply give up smoking at it's root source, If it it doesn't work for you there is no charge, can't be any fairer than that! PM me for details

  4. ....if it were in Rawai we probably wouldn't take our dogs (shihtzus) as it would be a bit too far for us on the bike as opposed to the brewery which is close to where we live :D

date sounds good to us though wherever it is, looking forward to it!

Not a problem, I'm sure we can arrange transport for you and your shithzus and for anyone one else for that matter.

Black , white , yellow, pink, Dogs, cats, monkeys, even humans, all welcome. Life ain't a dream, it's something to be lived. Let's party, let's make it better than the last and get rid of all this prevailing negativity.

    :D:D:)

  5. Hi

Looking for general information on openning a small coffe shop.

    Here a few detail:

Looking in buying a small franchise to sell coffee, myself and my thai wife would be owners, as probally it would be 51% her and 49% me.

My sister -in-law would work and manage the shop. We are thinking just a small booth or a corner booth to start with. Maybe in the future then we would rent a space and build a shop( like starbucks).

Looking for information on start-up of this bussiness.

    Thanks for the info

    [/quote

Franchise you must be F***in Joking !!!

Just remember when you jump in the ocean you are no longer on top of the food chain.

You mention Starbucks, check their recent track record, you think you can do better? if so, go for it, balls and all. Hope I'm not speaking soon to someone with no nuts.

Don't want to predict the result, but I think you would be better off with a jug of hot water and a bag of Nescafe 3 in 1 at the entrance of the MRT.

  6. By the way, maybe a mountain bike for hire business would do a roaring trade.

Nice thing about this country, there's always an optimist, without them there would be only 1/4 of the present bars. Yeah, looks good on the surface, Tried it 10 years ago in far better times at Mike's Bikes. You wouldn't believe what problems the punters will cause. They even ask is it air conditioned and are you allowed to smoke !! To deal with idiots I think it helps to be one yourself. Go buy 10 bikes and find out. Good Luck !!!

  7. Confusion reigns in Phuket over alcohol ban

One foreign bar operator on Patong's Soi Kebsup told the Gazette

Whether bars open or not is somewhat of a moot point because there are so few tourists around at the moment, he said.

"It's completely dead at the moment, worse than it was right after the tsunami," he said. spacer.gif

correct. after the tsu. there was a large influx of 'helpers' all needing food, accom, and the small pleasures of life and contributing to the economy. Now it's " Hi hippie, looks like you lost a thong. " Hippie says " nah man, only found one "

That's it, says it all, may as well put the padlock on this thread and save wasting time with unnecessary discussion which gets us all nowhere.

  8. I've looked at the forums and can't find an answer, so hopefully someone with a girlfriend or kids that has had this problem will know what to do.

Is there anyone on Phuket that can repair a broken dental brace, i.e. replace the piece and reglue it?

My friend broke one of his braces on a chicken bone 2 days ago. He has tried 3 dental clinics, including the Smile place not too far from Central. According to all of the dentists/orthodontists, they will charge to do everything again, so he should return to his orthodontist in Hat Yai and get it fixed there. Seems rather stupid to me as we're talking about one of the small braces that is glued to the tooth, not redoing the mouth. I can't believe this because I remember breaking my braces as a teenager a few times and I was able to get it repaired from alternative orthodontists rather than driving all the way back home. It's bad enough he's a 30 year old with braces, but jeez having to take a long trip to glue a stupid piece of metal on his tooth doesn't make sense. Even if he had to pay more , it would be worth it to avoid the trip. He has to take time off from work to do this, so its even more of a hassle and he's right in the middle of a major project, plus his girlfriend is giving him grief etc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Don't know that I can help much as I haven't even got any, ( had them ALL out at age 22 ).

However I happen to know whom I regard as the best tooth doctor in Phuket, if not in Thailand. Even my family, even the ex, come from OZ for their dental health. How I met him is a long story and has nothing to do with my mouth full of plastic. He has a clinic in Phuket town and also one in Rawai. If anyone is interested just PM me and I'll endeavor to help with contact details etc; and make sure you talk to the man himself.

  9. Hopefully the moderators will get wind of this and not only tell us how to report scams like this, but do everything they can to block this retard and protect it's members from idiotic things like this.

    John.

IMHO this is a scam. 1st step, I checked the phone number using,

    http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis⊂=phonenr

this is the result......... Information on phone number range +57 6 XXXXXXX

Number billable as geographic number Country or destination Colombia City or exchange location Armenia

    2nd. step.

You can check the location of the IP address that he used to contact you back from your reply inquiry by using

    http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/

I believe It works with every email address except G mail but you need to use the header from the mail, not the address itself. I wouldn't be surprised if it was from an internet cafe in Nigeria with his pushbike leaning against the wall.

He's probably using other adv sites as well, only needs to find one sucker to make it worthwhile.

The above check info was from 419 eater. com I use it quite a bit to check my own forum for scabs.

Scam baiting, 419 eater, the greatest pastime of the 21st. century, if you have time to lead them on a merry go round to a Western Union office , bank of their choice, lets meet at Swampy departures, etc; wherever they think they have a chance.

Yeah agree the mods should intervene, but it's hard to screen the scum. Will send an email to him on my dedicated gmail a/c (for this purpose ) will let you know the result.

  10. Anyone know of any good companies to use for shipping?

Maybe able to offer a bit of help. A mate recently sent a bike back to Oz in a crate. He was sailing a yacht back and should be back there by now. He had some shipping company up the road in Chalong take care of most of the necessary arrangements, including the packaging. Price I believe was very reasonable. If you like I can give him a call and see how it all went and also the details of this end.

    Cheers.

  11. How much would be the approx taxi charges from the domestic ariport at phuket to the laguna holiday club including/ excluding airport surcharges :D

    Jesus H f***n Christ.

I'd sort of reckon that if you're staying in a 5 ****** clip joint like Laguna, they would be there at the ariport to greet you with open arms, noooo charge with a bunch of flowers and a bottle of piss and asking do you want womb service.

Long live the south. !!! :)

  12. Hi everyone,

I would like to know about peoples experiences with hypnotherapy, in Phuket or anywhere else ??

Has anyone had good/bad results, especially for stopping smoking ??

Any recommendations on the island ??

Quick responses appreciated as I'm nearly out of cigarrettes :D

    Thanks..

    G'day cornishcarlos.

Last cig after 52 years of unnecessary gasping was 28 Nov 2008. 7 months ago. Just wish I'd done something more positive 51 years ago, but it's better late than never.

If you really want to give up smoking I can't stress this point as much as it deserves, you may wish to follow my plan that I found a success, if not, go no further, suffer until the end.

It did not revolve around any interaction here "on the island", it was a result of using my free voip connection to a hypnotist in OZ. It was in conjunction with a book available on line also for free. Her charges were very reasonable and came with a money back guarantee.

If you or any other 'spectators' want to use the free phone, ( 20 + countries ), talk to a hypnotherapist, or join our "no longer are we smokers club" please drop by or PM me.

Cheers 'n' beers :) .....................another unhealthy waste of money

That's the next step. ( shooting self in foot )

  13. So let's start organize the big bang here in Phuket :) .

    Gerd

I'll second that. Will endeavor to assist in any way possible. :D

  14. Could it have been " 99% of lawyers give he rest a bad name " ?

If so I agree. In my experience and I tend to feel that all lawyers here in Phuket "drink in the same pub" and as result there is no client confidentiality. If it's a serious matter you're behind the 8 ball already. Property conveyancing, mundane matters, mai pen rai but if the :) really hits the fan, go out of province. I have had the experience of dealing with a top law firm in BBK, sure there are air fares and accom. but the results are worthwhile.

No I'm not on a commission, just simply want to point out there are other alternatives. PM me for contact details.

  15. IIRC Larry Cunningham of phuketonerealestate is / was Austrailia's Honourary Consul to Phuket - perhaps contact him? If he personally can't do it imagine he might know who can.

    True.

Larry suggested I give John Howard ( no relation ) @ Teleke & Gibbons up Laguna way a call.

His endorsement was sufficient to purchase a property in OZ, JP etc; regards the paperwork.

PM me if you have any problems.

  16. G'day all.

For anyone who maybe interested I can recommend this activity to one and all, young or old.

From the perspective of an experienced yachtie it is as close as you can get to the real thing at a fraction of the cost, though it will cost nothing to give it a try, but I'm sure Jim would appreciate a beer in return for his efforts.

I gave it a try for the first time the weekend before last and was very impressed with the quality of the equipment and the passion he has to share his hobby with others . The sad points for me are that I won't be able to attend as much as I would like due to other commitments and my 'lake' isn't big enough to issue a challenge.

I wish scudman every success to further the hobby of Radio Controlled model Yacht Sailing here in Phuket :):D

  17. That last lap really was incredible. Lorenzo should have closed the door for Rossi, but he never expected him to overtake where he did. Never saw a race like that, and now all 3 of them have 206 points. It is looking like an excellent series again this year.

Totally agree with your comments, point though all 3 are on 106 points.

Of equal entertainment IMO was the last 2 laps of the 125's. For those that missed it, Star sports are showing repeats on Sun 14 @ 23.00 and Mon @ 14.00 if their program guide can be believed.

  18. [ Quote ]

Urging cooperation from all concerned state agencies, especially at border checkpoints, to help prevent the spread of the virus, Mr. Sukhumbhand said he had invited about 2,000 operators of Bangkok's Internet cafes, school administrators, and the managers of malls and cinemas for a meeting on Monday

Isn't this what we are trying to avoid, unnecessary group meetings of a large number of persons in a confined location, recycling the same air. One with the bug arrives, the rest all take it home for free !!! Though it did not give the venue, maybe it's in the middle of a buffalo field in Nakon Nowhere, if so, that's good. Can't this very important meeting be achieved by teleconferencing or some other up to date method. Or is the junket to the venue the overriding factor together with all the perks that come with it.???. Hope they don't use the same bus company as the Krabi scenario. Better to get there late than dead on time.

    That's my call.

  19. G'day Mate.

I wish I could be more helpful. A few years ago I had intentions of setting up 3 squash courts and 1 racquetball court in the complex I have now in place in Rawai, Phuket, the plans have already been drawn, that was the cheap part. None of this changes what is happening in this place/city/ country, at this point in time.

As we all know the :) hit the fan a few years ago here in Phuket and as I'm sure, as is the case elsewhere, some good intentions had to be shelved in an effort to survive in the current financial climate.

People do ask me what is the future and all I can say to them is " well here is the contact number for "............ " He's really keen, interested, and like yourself, would also like to play the game on a regular basis, so give him a call. I'm doing this with squash inquiries also.

There are many "septic tanks" [no offense intended] in the local area so there is a local interest, the biggest problem is to find / or build a court and understandably, at this moment , there are many short arms with deep pockets. If they put down their racquets for a moment they could possibly reach in. Maybe in the future someone rocks up with a bag of bucks [ freshly laundered ] and says "where do you want it built".

Don't :D just throw money. We all live in hope.

I dunno, I just go with the flow.

    Cheers 'n' beers.

  20. Looking for tennis partner in Phuket. I am intermediate/advanced player and looking for the partner in Phuket. I am flexible about time and place.

    My phone +66892282656

    G'day aidido.

Tried your phone # without luck. I have a list of players here in Phuket of varying grades both male and female who are looking for playing partners. Most are resident expats and look forward to a regular game.

Please contact me by PM and I can arrange a meeting or direct contact.

A current thread on this forum maybe worth a look. thaivisa.com/forum/Tennis-Patong-t271220.html

  21. I agree with LivinginKata. Their range is extensive but the price is quite often over the top.

My favorite tool shop is Phuket Tools 100 meters on LHS from Chaofa Rd. east, on Sakdidet Rd. It's the one that goes to the aquarium and Cape Panwa. The owners name is Chaiyot and is fluent in english and very helpfull. If he hasn't got what you want he'll ring around, find it and point you in the right direction or order it in for you. IMHO You will not get a better price or service anywhere.

He is unbeliveably helpfull and has many contacts for repairs etc. :):D
