  1. British Embassy Bangkok to Stop Certification of Income Letters

This letter has previously served as a supporting document for obtaining a Thai retirement or marriage visa. The British Embassy Bangkok is stopping the certification of income letters because it is unable to fulfil the Thai authorities’ requirements to verify the income of British Nationals.

British Nationals should now demonstrate that they have an amount of at least 800,000 THB in an account in Thailand for no less than three months prior to the visa application, or a monthly income of at least 65,000 THB transferred into an account in Thailand for a retirement visa. For a marriage visa, the amounts are 400,000 THB in an account in Thailand for no less than three months prior to the visa application, or a monthly income of at least 40,000 THB transferred into an account in Thailand. A bank statement should be used as the supporting document for obtaining a Thai retirement or marriage visa.

All British Nationals concerned should note that the last date for income letter applications is 12 December 2018.

  2. There may already be a post on this topic but I cannot see the search facility that is usually on here. I need a Samsung Air Con repair person as I have an error code showing E058 and the unit shuts down after a few seconds and shows this code.. Must be Samsung technician

    I live in Pranburi

  3. The next meeting of the APPG is on 1 November and will be attended by representatives of pensioner groups from Australia and Canada. They are suggesting that partial up-rating is a step in the right direction. i.e. get up-rating on your present level not what is being paid in UK. They are doing this without consulting their membership and the majority of comments I have seen are against this proposal - full parity or UK Gov will just wait for us to die.

You can leave comments for the APPG members to see on http://frozenbritishpensions.org/next-appg-meeting-wednesday-1-november-2017/#comment-961 - e-mails direct to MPs on the Group are usually responded with the standard MP's pro-forma I only deal with my own constituents. I know most of the UK pensioners resident in Thailand use accommodation addresses in UK to get the up-rating, winter fuel allowance etc but some of us were honest!!!!!

  4. At the end of the month I will be distributing collecting boxes and poppies to venues in Hua Hin. I normally supply Hua Hin Ham, Bacon & Meat in soi 41 and El Murphy's in Selakam Road (near Hilton) but would be able to supply any other pub that feels it can attract donations. Normally a high number of UK customers will be best.

I have to travel from Pranburi, so would need someone to take charge of the box when I deliver to save wasted journeys.

If you feel that your establishment could make a telling contribution please respond here with contact details.

  5. That 'attraction closed' scam has been running outside the Grand Palace for years; they offer a boat trip or tuk tuk tour 'while you wait for it to re-open.

I don't know why the Foreign Offices of various countries don't highlight these scams on their so called travel advice (FCO please note); also the recent advice that smoking is banned on Thailand's beaches

  7. Although frozen pensions are slightly off-topic as far as this article is concerned - baansgr - reciprocal agreements are NOT necessary and UK Gov has reluctantly agreed that this is the case after years of quoting this excuse.

All that is needed is a change of domestic legislation - in this case the abolition of section 20 of the Pensions Act which states the Minister may make regulations to not pay annual up-rating to UK pensioners residing in certain countries. There is no legal obligation on the Minister to make these regulations (as Statutory Instruments raised annually) despite the other UK Gov excuse that it only up-rates pensions where it has a legal obligation to do so.

It now remains to be seen if this blatant discrimination continues if EU resident pensioners continue to receive annual up-rating after Brexit

  8. Instantaneous response; looks like option B if no other suggestions

    Katrina Edwards replied:

    Hi,
Thank you for your recent email.
At the moment we are only shipping orders within the UK.
Sorry we could not be of more help.
    Regards,

    Katrina Edwards
  9. Thanks for that Captain Splod; I tried to buy from there but my bank refused to accept the payment as the seller is in China, However, I have e-mailed the distributor in the UK that Braun advised me of to see if they would ship to Thailand and at what cost. The alternative is to find someone amongst my friends here who is going to the UK and get the order delivered to their address to bring back for me.

I will post again on here once I here from this company (I have told them I have had a few enquiries arising from this post)

  10. Does anyone know of a source for Braun shaver spares? I have an old Series 3 but Braun advise a foil and cutter set 31S will fit. They have given me a link to buy from UK but I would like to check if there is somewhere nearby before incurring postage.

  11. Thai drivers invariably sit in the traffic and refuse to move over or make way for emergency vehicles. This video from Oldbury Community Fire Station in UK shows a ladt driver doing a test run on a course (she passed). Thai drivers should watch how the traffic reacts to the emergency appliance warning siren.

  12. emilymat - I was doing the same thing with VPN and iPlayer and my ex-wife's licence (seeing as she gets he pension from my contributions I have in theory made a contribution to the licence anyway!)- the reason was I got sub-titles that were not available on expat tv which i watched for other programmes

I just find FILMON easy to use - if it becomes a problem due to limits then I can revert to what I was doing

  13. sungod - the reason I download is because of what you mention - it only plays for a few minutes but if you download you can get a whole hour - free. I haven't tried it yet but if you want more download time you pay. I would only want to do that if a full football or rugby match was being screened but of course there might be restrictions on downloading such transmissions. For the time being it serves as an alternative to expat tv.

I should mention I have watched BBC1 and ITV programmes from the previous day by scrolling across the timeline - bit confusing as it shows time in Thailand

it was the big teams that changed football forever back in 1991-92

and before that it was the big teams that changed the rules so they could get bigger. At one time teams shared the net gate revenue (after expenses) and so little clubs like Wimbledon who had home gates of around 6,000 could survive in the top division on the revenue they got from away games at 'big' clubs, Then a cartel of the larger clubs got the rules changed so the home team kept all the money; then extra seats were put in e.g. the drop down from the pitch at Old Trafford was made so they could fir in a couple of extra rows all round before they built the top tier.

Of course the massive revenue from TV rights eventually has meant the supporters revenue is only a small percentage of income and supporters are now not treated as well.
