  1. I have lived here for more than 10 years and will continue to live here; for those respondents who find Thailand not up to their homeland standards - go back and see how that has changed while you were away. Put up or shut up - the Thais will decide if they want to control or be controlled.

All I see on Thai Visa is moan, moan, moan

  2. Quote 'city police will face transfer for negligence of duty, he said' - this is the problem in the Land of Smiles - there is no deterrent in the form of punishment of Police for neglect of duty nor worthwhile deterrent for law breakers. Inactive posts appear to be positions in the RTP as very few take any action of consequence. Having said that, I live here of my own volition and accept that Thailand is different; why should I criticise a country where I pay no taxes, have no mandate and enjoy the climate, the food and the relative peace.

  3. in response to The Demon = this is normal in Thailand that the EMS crews rush to pick up and then transport to their sponsored hospital never mind the ones they pass on the way. Exacerbated by the selfish behaviour of Thai drivers who will not give way to emergency vehicles if it means giving up a space in the road. Callous, uncaring and not Buddhist but TIT and it's not our country - put up or shut up I guess

  4. As Poohy says 2 drivers should be allocated to a journey of this duration necessitating a quick turn-round. There appears to be no legislation regulating drivers' hours in Thailand; maybe because it would be pointless. The wages are so low that even if driving hours on PCVs and HGVs were regulated, a lot of the drivers would spend rest periods driving taxis/taxi bikes.

I wonder if the insurance company would pay out as the driver has confessed to falling asleep from long hours driving.

  5. geriatrickid - the traffic lights outside the Bangkok Hospital are largely ignored, in particular by tuk-tuks and scooter riders. What happens next month when the new shopping mall opens?

When I lived in Hua Hin I had several close shaves on my scooter when 'farangs' crossed in front of while looking in the wrong direction - most European and American countries drive on the right so warning look right/left signs at crossings and traffic lights might help

  6. MIKt - what a load of rubbish - you cannot stereotype all the contributors to this forum in the same way you cannot stereotype all Muslims, all Thais, all Army etc etc. I 'claim' to be a farang from a democratic country and I do not see where your argument is going there; my morals are good and I do not take advice from my wife - anything else? Oh yes - the referendum was voted for by the Thai people - that is democracy never mind how it was achieved - the UK Brexit vote was democratic although the public were mislead. Do you see British peole on the streets closing Heathrow airport,  shooting their Police and fellow countrymen?

I say leave the government of Thailand to the Thai people and if you don't like it - I'll send you directions to Suvarnabhumi.
