  1. We need more info. is it registered in Cambodia, if yes in who's name. are you going to do border runs every 3 months. I think you can bring it in as a cambodian personal import and border run it. LivinLOs has friends that do this in Phuket. If you where not staying in Bkk. i would just say ride it over the border(not at a crossing) then take the cambo plate off.

    Cheers for the reply Allan.

As I didn't figure out a solution in time before leaving Cambo I sold the TT-R already [sigh].

Besides, I'm living in Bangkok, so I guess I made the right decision, as I understand the police are pretty alert to big bikes with/without the right plates in BKK.

Now just on the look out for something 2nd hand, my kind of size (6'3"), for less than 70,000 bht.... ?

  2. I actually read about a week ago that IKEA was coming to Thailand (Bangkok).

    Can't wait!!!!!

So, any more news/rumour on IKEA coming to BKK? Or was it just wishful thinking?

Also, any up to date or additional info on contemporary furniture suppliers in/near Bangkok (that don't do the Index/SB/ cheap&nasty, chipboard, faux-wood, toy-size stuff, at affordable prices)?

oops! quick google search and I've found the answer myself... from Bangkok Post 12/05/2009:

"Construction will start at the Mega Bang Na complex in the third quarter of this year and the centre is scheduled to open by October 2011, said SF chief executive Nopporn Witoonchart. Mega Bang Na will be on a 290-rai plot on the Bang Na-Trat KM 9, Kanchanaphisek outer ring road and will have a total space of about 200,000 square metres. Its features will include a 40,000-sq-m Ikea store, a department store, branded fashion outlets, restaurants, an IT centre, an entertainment centre and parking for 8,000 cars."

yay to the news! but boo to the wait! roll on 2011... only some 850 days to go (and counting) :)

  4. Hi, i'm newbie to posting but been reading topics on thaivisa 4 a few years (while living in Cambodia)...

Moving to BKK 5th July from Phnom Penh and would dearly love to figure a way to bring over my fantastic ole buddy, my Yamaha TTR250 Raid...

I've just been reading mentions on other topics (and GT-rider forum) about import duty being waived on bikes that are 250cc or less... is this true???!!!

Has anyone any experience (or known anyone that's done it) importing a 250cc bike from Cambodia? Any idea of what costs/issues will/might ensue?

Ideally I'd like to just drive it through the border point at Koh Kong/Hat Lek, but can/how would that be done?

Cheers in advance for any replies. :)

    ma boy!

  5. Hi, i'm newbie to posting but been reading topics on thaivisa 4 a few years (while living in Cambodia)...

Moving to BKK next week (from Phnom Penh, where bikes are a LOT cheaper - about half the price it seems) and sadly it seems I have to leave my fantastic ole buddy, my Yamaha TTR250 Raid, behind as import into Thailand seems ridiculously expensive considering the bike's only worth about 45000 bht - :) ...

so now interested in best buy to go for in Thailand when I arrive and this Tiger Boxer sounds good value at least. But I'm a tall guy (6'3"/193cm) and am wondering if there's any modifications can be made to the Tiger Boxer to make it more comfortable for someone my height. My Yamaha TTR250 was perfect for me after I had the suspension jacked up - super-comfortable both for me and my (also tall) girlfriend as passenger, in traffic, touring and off-road too (plus it had the added bonus of being nearly impossible for locals to steal as anyone under 185cm would have difficulty getting on it :D ). Any ideas as to how/whether the Boxer could have mods to make it suitable for someone like me?

Also, how/where would one go looking for used 250s? Are they even on the 2nd hand market yet?

Cheers in advance for any replies. :D
