  1. johng - I am sure that YOUR credit is too good to have a card downgraded

Thats exactly what they said at the branch when I opened the account and asked for the Cirrus card... :)

My card is a Nationwide Cash Card with a Cirrus logo

Ahh well then may I recommend you try using the Government Savings Bank ATM ( they are the pink ones )

I bet your card works in them...

Thanks but I think they only take cards with the visa logo but I'll try Aeon when I find one.

  2. I tried my Nationwide Cash card in the branch near the Friendship Supermarket in Pattaya this morning and got the warning about the 150

Well after reading that worrying news :)

I rushed to the Ayudthaya ATM attached to ( not inside )

the branch near Friendship ( the big Friendship near to 3rd road not the little one near to Walking street )

and with my Nationwide Visa debit card withdrew 500 baht no mention onscreen about a 150 baht charge.

maechanman is your card Visa debit, Visa credit or Cirrus ?

  3. Just got back from the UK(yesterday) after a 6 week trip, these ATM charges were just being introduced before I left.

I've been reading this forum with some interest, still a bit confused if The Bank of Ayudhya are charging the 150 Baht fee or not.I've read a few conflicting reports on here.

I tried my Nationwide Cash card in the branch near the Friendship Supermarket in Pattaya this morning and got the warning about the 150 Baht fee so I promptly cancelled.

I would assume that I'd be charged, anyone out there used the Nationwide card and received the warning then not been charged?

  4. It appears that I am unable to open a foreign currency exchange account (with Kasikorn anyway) as I do not have a work permit (which is required for a non-resident foreign currency account, and I do not have premanent residence or a house registration certificate, which is required for a resident foreign exchange account.

Thanks anyway, it was worth finding out about as my circumstances may well change in the future.

Try the Ayudyha Bank,I opened a foreign currency account there 2 months back.Only documentation I took was my passport.

There's a minimum of £500 to open it but bear in mind that they charge 1% to deposit and 1% if you wish to withdraw in the same currency, you can however transfer into your Thai Baht account for free, presumably this would be at the cash rate at the time.

  5. I needed a Tourist visa back in Feb so I caught a train from Bangkok to Sungai Kolok in the south. From there you hop across the border takes 5 mins on a motorcycle taxi then catch a local bus to Kota Bharu on the Malaysian side, takes about an hour.

I arrived in the afternoon put my passport in the Thai embassy there and collected my visa the following morning at 10am.

Place was deserted application process took 5 mins and when I collected it the following day took about 2 mins.

Catch the afternoon train back to Bangkok that same day.

Watch out for Malaysian and Thai public holidays as the Embassy will be closed, also the Embassy is open Sunday through Thurs, closed Fri and Sat as it's a muslim place.
