  1. I go loose too xx miles in September but I accept because since a while I fly around in Asia and seldom to Europe.

If you want to protect your miles you could always take a flight with AF from BKK to HCM.

I flew KLM LHR AMS_BKK 8 years ago when I first came Thailand, Horrible experience, Lousy service in flight and when i returned my checkin baggage was 3 kg over and they forced me to pay 50GBP excess. I remember talking to the ladyemployee at the counter who sympathized with me and said she was leaving the company soon and they have more complaints than any of the major carriers. So Its good to see the airline going down the pan. and it has to join with another airline, As has been said Its run for anybody but the customers . It thinks it has a right to business. "Royal Dutch Sucks Airline" Is a good name.

EVA and Qatar RULE for Thailand to Europe

  2. Just to put some things straight about the Sunday roast at the Huntsman.

It IS the best Sunday Roast in BKK at this time, nothing compares, the OP of this thread wanted to know the BEST SUNDAY ROAST IN BKK & NOT the best priced Sunday roast, the Sunday roast runs from 12 - 3pm and includes approx over 25/30 different food choices (obviously all you can eat and can go back as many times as you like)

You get what you pay for, I have eaten in all the mentioned restaurants and nothing comes close to the Huntsman (as a few other people have stated) I would much rather pay an extra 200bt and enjoy the food than pay for a cheapo and not be satisfied, and by the way the last time i went to MM's I had ants crawling all over my plate:-( I would never eat there again, mind you its 200bt cheaper than the Huntsman and you get free ants so maybe i will go back lol

300 Baht cheaper, 650 Baht for a sunday lunch is overpriced whatever the quality

  3. Som tam anyone :)

If only they did a Sunday Roast flavour Som Tam :D

In my last few weeks in Thailand I will not be eating anymore Thai food. Had enough of it. Good wholesome food from the Uk for me. Sunday lunch every weekend in BKK and I make great stews in the rice makers. . I don't wanna see a grain of rice or smell the oily food again before September 20th

  4. Of course Thailand has so many gangster , illegal activities within its own borders. Usually by those with Political or economic power. Bout maybe can be used to front an operation.

PS All the Anti American Jerks on here. They just like to see these sort of court decisions , Simply because of the Failure to uphold a US extradition application, . Why we surprised , Thai Courts are the nearest thing to gambling there is. (Thai Law can never be sure to be upheld)

  5. By far the best Sunday Roast is the Huntsman Pub (downstairs Landmark Hotel) they do a full buffet/carvery and i mean everything! think its only 650bt eat as much as you like, I have tried most of the places in BKK and this is the best!!!

2nd place would have to go to the Black Swan at Asoke BTS

I almost walked into the Huntsman Sunday morning - (in my view their weelkly specials at 199 Bt are great - weds is a swordfish salad followed by a good steak with vegtabales) - All for the same price as a subway sandwich.

Anyway., I went to Bullies on Sunday. Lamb shank cooked to perfection, meet just dropped off from the bone with a yorkshire pudding (should be served with beef roast- but who cares the yorkie was good) and vegtables. Only thing missing was roast potatoes. It came with a salad starter and an apple pie afterwards. I recomend it.

I think I'll give the Londerner a go next week.

    Cheers.

    GFL.

Dont waste ya money in the Londoner its only mediocre (been there many times over the yrs).

If you dont want to try the Huntsman go to the Black Swan at Asoke BTS.

Getting back to the Huntsman and their discount cards ask Steve (the English Manager at the Huntsman) to give you a FREE 10% off discount card (if the offer is still going which I assume it is) bargain!!

Slightly off topic but well worth a mention, try the basket of chips at the Huntsman with the chesse garlic dip gotta be the best chips in Bangkok, also worth a try are the Nachos awesome!!

How about some exact location on these places, "Bullies" etc

  6. Any normally peaceful individual or groups is POTENTIALLY violent IF attacked.

Yellows ONLY got violent when they were under increasing guerrilla style attacks.

Or being surrounded and having grenades lobed at them on Oct 7.

Normally they NEVER were violent as a S.O.P. motus operandi.

Toward the end of their 'street life', they did get more paranoid, and 'actively defensive'.

around their lines, or in their crowds, but never went voyaging out looking for trouble.

They changed scene as a mass group, but not as a way to start physical violence.

It was seen on television. Chaos didn't serve their purpose. But getting the TRT PPP crooks

away from the candy jar did.

But attacked and they responded in kind. No question.

The red shirts have been aggressive since day one of their existence.

In some case particularly nastily. Regular, planned, calculated attacks on dissenting voices.

This incident may well have been a local politics warning shooting.

But the reds are top to bottom involved with PTP politics,

and we really can't tell what their masters choose to use them for clandestinely.

No this wasn't Abhisits office, just a Dem local office.

But to imagine this is NOT another attempt to disconnect the Democratic Party

from making inroads with poor people is ludicrous. The Reds have always tried to

get between Democrats and other parties trying to show they are not the old party,

and the poorer elements connected with issan.

Just not 'typically' leaving from there larger rallies to do it With the glaring example of

Sept 1-2 2008, when egged on by PPP MP's on stage to get Samak his State of Emergency,

they went out an attacked PAD lines. This was an aggressive and quite public attack

using extreme violence to silence opposition. Can't let these guys talk longer, people might listen.

Preventing a Dem councilor from doing good work for Bangkok Issanese,

is cutting off that 20-40 range of younger upcountry folk from information not in jackboot lockstep

with Thaksin's machine's message. This can prevent word from filtering back home,

that the new Dems are not the old Dems; that some of the 'CHILDREN' actually see a difference

    and LIKE THEM.

This is still another round of the Thaksin machines information control of Issan thought.

Couldn't have put it better. The idiots on these messageboards( one falang jerk goes on red shirt rallies) want us to believe they are democrats , well they are not , they are THUGS, Crooks .vandals. I was around Victory monument in April when we saw what anarchy they want. They have nothing but hero worship for a corrupted politician , who incidentally can come back and face the courts anytime he wants, But no .he runs and hides , Hoping he can get his puppet buddies back in office. There will be civil war before he ever comes to Thailand and has any reigns on power again.

  7. I've not had one for some time now, although from memory bullies is quite good.

The Londoner doe's quite a good carvery as well. all you can eat.

If you want just a no frills Sunday Dinner, the Bulls Head takes some beating on price, however if you are like me and like to pig out on starters, bread , salads, soups, full roast (with variety of meats) sweets, cheese and biscuits and to finish off with a coffee, gotta go with the Londoner, 470 baht if memory serves me right

How about some info on exact location of these places , are they close to BTS? findung these sort of bars and restaurants in BKK is nevery easy.

  8. My take is Gill Charlton is a poor travel hack who had to find something to add the current 'bad Bangkok' theme. Unfortunately she 'googled' this, cut and pasted it, filed and buggered off home for the weekend. So the average punter reading this will think that this is a current and high-profile threat. I won't even call it bad journalism... just laziness.

    Oh yes, and irresponsible.

Some on here hate it when a poster puts a news item that talks about the cheating of Falang Tourists

Of course dont trust anyone you don;t know here, From Taxi Drivers who take an extended journey to your destination to the scams of scaring you into giving money. I have them approaching me often when in BKK, But a big shout of MAI and I mean a big shout usually does the tricket . even the taxi drivers who think I am a "buffalo" and will pay the round the houses trip. I pay them less and when the rant comes Its .." Come on lets go to the Police".. I have no confidence in them but it usually does the trick

  9. Watch the documentary on youtube made by the brave journalists who are tortured ,and murdered when caught.

A good documentary on Aussie network in Thailand about this yesterday. And all these USA bashers (Iam not a US citizen)talking about other situations GET YOU HEAD OUT OF THE SAND. Talk about the misery now and put pressure on governments to do more.. The Thai government for one should be ashamed when Buddhists monks are tortured and murdered for protesting. I have a Thai friend who works for an aid agency , when he was there earlier this year he was unable to do anything really useful because of the spies and restrictions placed on him. The Military actually told him he "you must be a spy if you want to come to Burma". Abhsit and ASEAN , USELESS

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6DfCLqLVUg&feature=PlayList&p=906E6CF8B07ED1B6&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=17

There are 9 parts in all. Watch it and see what really happens in not many miles from us in Thailand

  10. It pisses me off when they break padlocks on the suitcase when I only have clothes and liquids ,gels over 100ml inside. If they scanned they would see. I guess its being suspicious when you put a lock on the case , maybe something to hide.

But back to the main point. It is incredible that staff who work at baggage handling are so dishonest to open up a case (I may be naive) and surely chances are it's the baggage which is stored because of not claimed or late etc? Thats why I had things stolen .. in Tel Aviv airport of all places, a transit flight, baggage lost , get it 48 hours later and opened (for the tight security Israel has) and a pack of Mach 3 razor blades and Perfume goes missing.

  11. Avelox is a heavy-duty synthetic antibiotic. For pneumonia, the length of treatment varies from 7 to 14 days, so it's doubtful you'd see much difference in only 2 days. It's very important that you continue taking it until the prescription is finished. There are a lot of cautions, including taking antacids, multi-vitamins with zinc, and so forth. Also, it's important if you're older to note that a side effect is tendonitis. Suggest you look at www.rxlist.com for more info.

As far as walking pneumonia goes, I've had it several times as a young adult. Back then the drill was penicillin, bed rest (but sitting up), breathing exercises including deliberate coughing to try to loosen the junk in the lungs, but that was some 35 years ago. And I do remember having to limit liquids. Things might very well have changed. I do remember feeling a bit worn out, but able to function. Lethargy was a constant for about a month until the infection broke. After that, though, it's easy to forget you ever had it.

Hope you have a quick and complete recovery.

Ok thanks. Only side effect up to now is some diarrohea which is usual with antibiotics I guess. I have read about many other side effect people get. I only got a 7 day course and then going back to have another x-ray. Do I have to be concerned about tendonitis? male 48 yrs

  12. we've been ripped off!

embassy said today that the x-rays and check-up results have been sent to australia (without information about the sputum testing), and that it was likely they'd approve. <deleted>. i'm writing a formal letter, asking for my money back - all 10,000 Baht of it.

when talking to the doctor yesterday i said in dispair that it'd just be easier to apply for the tourist visa, get married in oz then go for a bridging visa as a means to pr as my spouse. after i said this, and complained about a number of other issues i had with them, he said that if we did so the embassy may stop us because my wife would be flagged as a potential health risk. fuc_k off, i thought (and almost said)!

then the doctor did something very strange - he gave me his personal email address. he confessed that he hadn't sent all the results to australia yet, and that i should email him if i really intended to change the visa application. reason for this: if we change to the tourist visa we would have wasted lots of money and time, and would have been invonvenienced on the basis of a lie to scam us out of money. we would have found this out that there was nothing wrong with my wife after arriving in australia to get a proper check-up. the reason for the email address is that, if we were to apply for the tourist visa on the basis of this bogus medical advice, he would possibly get into trouble. giving him notice, he would then be able to advise against the tourist visa, saying that we'd be ok to travel without further tests. what a load of <deleted>!

basically, because they're accredited by the oz government, it's like they've been given the permission to rip us off, and we're in no position to argue, as our visa and time depends upon their advice. fuc_kers!

Believe me all these private hospitals here see a Falang Tourist or even resident and they see the $$$ or Baht sign. Its about making money. I learn the hard way. They either want to admit you into the hospital overnight or charge exhorbitant fees for tests. Of course all done with a :) in the LoS

  13. I have had a bad cough here in Thailand for 2 weeks, so decided to go to a hospital (Im about 100Km north of BKK) After some wheezing on my chest the doctor asked for an X-ray and said it was a form of pneumonia, commonly known as walking pneumonia. I was quite shocked, I dont feel real bad, a little tired. Doctor suggested I could stay in hospital but I think that was unnecessary .I was prescribed an anti biotic, Avelox is the commercial name.not mush improvement in 2 days , seems I have still have fluid in lungs , Anyone used Avelox and can give their experience.?

Also I am sure I get this from switching from Air con to non aircon (extreme heat to cold ) and vice versa particularly when I sweat alot.

  14. Why isn't ASEAN and Thailand in particular doing anything to rescue the Nobel Peace Laureate Suu Kyi from being sent off to rot and die in a prison in Burma? Suu Kyi won an election by a landslide and wants Burma to become a 'normal' country again. The dictatorship's newly concocted trial against her is about to to conclude and send her away for life in some hellhole of a prison in Burma.

Let's hope the renewed attention brought by Sec Clinton's remarks concerning the bogus trial of Suu Kyi by the fascist dictators of Burma can yield some positive result.

Only Asean can make the difference. What are you doing in this respect, Abhisit?

Absolutely, It's a shame and disgrace thats States turn a blind eye. Look at China. That Corrupt Communist state, that I lived in for 2 years , but its Party of government has a policy of not interfering in other countries. If neighbours of Military or communist countries all held a "non inteference" stance I wonder what the world would be like now. I guess China would have stood steadfastly against a Nazi dominated world if it had won WW2 , ready at the border to defend itself.

As far as Thailand goes , Abhsit is just a mouth piece for those in the corrupt businesses in the country who put him there. He will however be gone after the next election.

    .

  15. oh how i miss the good old days of Don Meuang, it was a dream

on arrival, i always took a thai limo, fixed price B1500 to pattaya but after a 15 hour flight, I wanted comfort an no hassle and a few beers on the way down. Drivers always courteous and drove like a proper chauffeur.

of course i could have walked out of the terminal and onto the main drag and hailed a passing cab to take me to Morchit bus station (10mins - 40B if i was feeling cheap charlie)

its never been easy to get a proper driver to take you back from pattaya to the airport, they always drive like madman, i hated that. minibus service even worse, so i got the bus to morchit, then waked around to departures and hailed a leaving cab who would take me to airpot for 50B on the meter. Zero problems

You can now get to and from the swamp using the Bell Bus from pattaya north and gate no 7. its a breeze, 150 baht, runs every 2 hours from 6 am to 6pm so dont arrive late or you will struggle. it took me 3 hours once using buses when i arrived 20.00hrs. no way would i pay the 2500B the taxis demanded for pattaya

The fact is they are taxi metered cabs at the airport and the authorities should be enforcing the metering, it has to be possible even in Thailand , Its the capital city for heavens sake.

  16. And what time does it start on Friday? :D I missed that

Its hilarious :D . I can't think of another "government or police force in the world that would announce so far in advance they were planning a crackdown. Clearly they don't want to find anything illegal. And surely they could warn their buddies who give them the kick backs they were going to do this without a public announcement. :)

    COSMETIC EXERCISE. LoS=Land of S**t

  17. The over use of Playing Computer games by children of school age is serious in Thailand and damages their education . As a teacher here , playing Computer Games always comes top of students leisure time activity.

Why ? What should they be doing ? Reading educational books for the 6 hours instead ? Would you rather they go out on the streets and get into mischief ? Just what exactly should they be doing with their leisure time ? This law may be ridiculous in its unenforceability never mind the debate about the states/parents role in society but it at least it recognises thats what kids do !!! Why dont you recognise the skills that online gaming do develop ? In a computer age whats so wrong with developing enhanced hand/eye coordination, fast reactions etc etc. Yes 6 hours a day is excessive for any child to be doing any one thing but do tell, just what would you have them do with their leisure time ? Oh - I know, you'd introduce your own set of ideal laws on them instead.

Our individual loss of freedom is the worlds greatest unfolding disaster of the 21st century.

So 3-6 hours a day playing "Disco Dance" or a "Shoot em up" computer game is good because it helps their "hand/eye coordination". The sort of parental guidance that will do more harm than "individual loss of freedom in the 21st century" . I can think of greater "unfolding disasters" than any potential loss of freedom

  18. The new rules, which also cover Internet cafes, allow children to play computer games for more than three hours and up to six hours a day, says Culture Minister Teera Salakpetch.

Those under 15 will be allowed to use the service from 2pm to 8pm from Monday to Friday and from 10am to 8pm during holidays and school breaks, while those aged 15 to 18 can play games until 10pm, Teera says.

The Cabinet also agreed that an IT system to keep kids under 18 from playing computer games for more than three hours a day should be ready before a ministerial regulation amendment is proposed later, he added.

    -- The Nation 2009 07 29

Woow.. this is some regime regulations. I thought this would be family matters. Teaching behaviour and moral is not a governments job.

Does the thai parents also do a lousy job?

If the Children have Parents. Often they dont , some other aunt or grandparent , or other is the legal guardian, So There is no guidance. I have spoken to Thai teachers who have visited childrens legal guardian and its a sad situation sometimes. Basically the Kids do what they want with no Role Model other than "Disco dance and Shooting game " on the computers

  19. Hi.

I for one agree to these changes. Have you ever been in the situation where you actually NEEDED an internet cafe, maybe because your computer just died or you were far away from home when your boss called to tell you that you urgently need to reply to a business e-mail? Then you got to an internet cafe and ALL the computers were occupied with kids playing senseless shoot-em-up games, with more kids waiting in line already? So you went looking for another internet cafe and it was the exact same situation there? Happened to me, not once but twice already.

And how about parents bringing their three-year-olds to the theater to watch horror movies which, in the western world, would be restricted to 18+ audiences? No wonder everyone in this country believes in ghosts when they start "learning" of their presence in empty houses from such a young age. On the other hand if the captain of the Titanic is shown on an oil painting during a documentary about the Titanic, his cigar is pixelated. As is any beer bottle. However a minute later Singha and Johnny Walker run their advertisements (carefully avoiding to show the product, as if not even kids knew what that product is!)

So if all television is censored to be watched by toddlers, i very much welcome a rating system for movies. Just make sure it is done right! I.e. do NOT censor all movies to be suitable for The Children™ but run uncensored versions that may even show a nipple or a cigarette at times and make sure the audience is 16 or 18 or whatever required (ID check is simple).

They have this sort of rating everywhere in the developed world and nobody complains, so why not here?

    Best regards.....

    Thanh

The over use of Playing Computer games by children of school age is serious in Thailand and damages their education . As a teacher here , playing Computer Games always comes top of students leisure time activity. Of course nothing will be done that seriously tackles the issue . This is Thailand , Nothing ever is done that tackles serious issues. They only pass laws and regs to irritate and inconvenience persons and organizations that are benefiting the country.

  20. You in fact do have an a one year extension of stay that has to be renewed annually if you do not have to leave the country every 90 days and are working here. The re-entry permit will keep your current permitted to stay stamp alive.

Ok so my stamp on arrival 90 days ( June 2009) with my Non Im B which says must exit by september 7 2009 is no longer a requirement because I have a 1 year permit until next July 2010.

  21. "Ok thanks, and the Multi re-Entry stamp is just one stamp valid for as many re entries you want within that 'Must leave by date"?"

Yup. It's just a bulk discount. At 3800 baht versus 1000, you are betting that you will need to re-enter at least 4 times.

Now that these permits are no longer available upon departure at the airport, it makes total sense to purchase one at the same time that you get your annual extension (or shortly after arrival if you come in on an O-A). It's good for exactly the same period as your extension. Buying a single vs. a multiple is a matter of economy vs. convenience.

For me, as a long-stay retiree, I'm happy to pay US$167 for the renewal and the multi and be done with it for the year.

Not understand your terminology , I had a Non imm B (You have a Non Imm ) 0 ?. that was cancelled for work permit and lasts 1 year now , I was told I have to get a re entry permit if i wish to travel. I dont have "annual extension"
