  1. Seriously, I think the Thai Gov needs to rethink their position and look carefully at their own exports. Forces are in motion to halt, disrupt, seize up to 54% of it for violations of Trade agreements. Denying yet another foreign business owner will add more neg. to the Thai lopsided Trade. PM should simply have signs at the aitport telling foreigners to drop their wallets and ATM cards "with PIN" in the box and get back on the plane.

That would be the perfect solution for Thais, just leave your money and get back on the plane.lol
  2. interesting to think of all drugs being legalized throughout the world ( or at least in America!)..

Assuming numerous Thai people eat Yaba, it helps explain their actions behind the wheel of a car or on motorbikes.. jai ron mak.

That would mean every Thai driver here, because there all shocking drivers
  3. Cant really say anymore than has been said, ive driven cars and bikes here for 17 years and it don't get any better and it never will,it just gets worse year by year, with more cars and bikes on the road, with completely untrained and incompetent drivers, who are just dangerous, but im still going to carry on living here,so think i will trade the pick up in for a second hand tank.lol

  4. Just out of curocity, is there any game hunting in Thailand, birds etc...?

Never heard about any hunters butwhat do I know?

    Poaching is a national sport.

Jo Dennis, Thais hunt and kill EVERYTHING what is not on the tree when they counted to three.... Check out the Isaan for example, no more birds (except chickens) no snakes (except these one in cages of the ppl sale anti snake poison) and no other animals bigger as a Gekko.....even the Tokeys they hunt down and eat them....and in Sokunakhorn even dogs.... so they do hunt here .... pretty EVERYTHING except Ants and Cockroaches.... but wait, I see cockroaches yesterday on a market...deep fried licklips.gif

True up here in my wifes village outside of chaing mai they have hunted everything to extinction,i upset one of my neighbors, the guy just walked into my garden with his rifle and was trying to shoot a squirrel,i told him to get off my land ,as its private, that is why i have a big fence around the garden,id made the mistake of leaving the front gate unlocked,he wasn't happy, that id stopped him bagging his dinner.
  5. Yes a 5000bt note would be to large, they look at me like im mad in my local mom and pop store if i give them a 1000 note, imagine giving them 5000 for a few beers and a packet of chips.lol

Whatever happened to the plastic 50 B notes.

I was hoping they would extend it to the other denominations.

    Very handy during Songkran !

    Time for a 5000 B note ?

    Problems with the currency now.

1=anyone with sight or even slight sight faults--the 20 green and the 50 blue can get a bit mixed up--as the green isn't green enough and the blue isn't blue enough.

2=the 100 bht and the 1000 bht notes again can easily ( if mixed together) are not altogether dissimilar

3=GET RID of the stupid and senseless SATANG, 100 for 1 bht.they are a waste of good metal. thus saving a bomb in minting the useless <deleted>.

My own thought would be, 1-2-5-10-20 bht coins bronze silver and or dual colour.

    Notes. Bold blue 50 bht---------crimson 100 bht-------------orange 500 bht-------emerald green for 1000 bht.

The 5000 bht note would be too large, and would be open to fraud and copying. so a 2000 bht note in red blue and white-Thai colours. I just woke up from a dream-----but my idea, comments on that posters---------non political please B)

  6. Very exclusive first class ones, but only in Thailand, lol

Montenegro revokes Mr T's passport because he harms Montenegro?

Yes, the homeland of international outlaws with big pockets tries to be accepted by the EU.

If this is the case, then the passport for Mr T follows UN laws: Everyone has the human right to have a nationality (passport).

Nope, sorry not everyone, a passport is a privilege not a right, and it has nothing to do with asserting your nationality.

Added to which, what possible use could a criminal convicted to two years in jail have for using one? Do prisons organise overseas trips for inmates or something?

  7. Ive seen the blankets that they give out to the people in the village my wife comes from outside of mae on in chaing mai they are so thin, they must be about 50bt each.a mil baht can buy some blankets, and im sure the ones handling the cash arnt using them

Time to trot out the age old question.

What happened to the blankets and warm clothing that were distributed last year?

It seems I read about this issue every year, so I have to agree with you.... what happened to all the donated clothes and blankets years past?

Surely they don't just throw them away when the cold season passes. If so, I have to question if they should get more aid or not. Darwin has a funny way of taking care of those who don't take care of themselves.

That said, perhaps all the "blanket money" from years past never actually made it to buy blankets. Would be tragic if that is the reason.

Also, every year they know it's going to get cold. Why don't they prepare before hand?

It seems Thailand is one "disaster" after another. Always due to being ill prepared.

  8. :cheesy:

I heard stories like this, and they always happened to "a friend of a friend". I always thought these were urban legends.

no it happens,15 years ago i used to live across the road from a katoey hotel in patong beach,i used to sit with friends and watch them taking the unsuspecting guys home, then you would see these guys bolt down the road with naked lady men chasing them throwing shoes and bottles after them, some great nights sat at patricks bar watching this.lol

  9. Pattaya is now chock full of Fortuner SUVs with Bangkok license plates. Seems a bit unfair that the rich people are enjoying a week at the beach, while the poor people left behind are swimming in turds. Oh well, guess that is the way it has always been...

And so is Chaing mai! I dont have anything against Bangkok people but there driving leaves a lot to be desired!

  10. The person who has lost out here is the foreigner and his kids, not the wife. Maybe they had a family together and the the kids have also lost out them because there will be less or no money for their education and food / clothing etc. If anyone reading this finds themselves in a situation where you have essentially lost your life, your wife, all your money and possibly your children where one moment earlier you were living a happy life with kids in school, and an easy lifestyle I think that would be utterly devastating. Not only are you looking at financial disaster but if you are a family man as well you will be utterly distraught as to how you are going to look after and bring up your children never mind yourself. Your dreams are shattered and your partner gone. Your life is devastated and then you have to deal on your own with the money lenders threatening you, lawyers and courts who want substantial sums to start EACH case plus security deposits lodged to court to cover possible damages if you lose, while the money lender has the property you bought for 20% of what you paid for it by being in on the scam. Note that he does not have to lodge any deposits into court, his court fee is tiny and he will have lawyers in tow."Its a good business" one lawyer said to me! Yes it sure is - you cheat or scam some not so clever girl into signing over one piece of property probably for a smallish amount with a lot of lies and promises it will all work out. Then once trapped, persuade her to commit fraud under threat when she can't pay, so as to get the rest of the property until there is none left, safe in the knowledge you as the money lender have committed no fraud, won't go to jail, and can fight a case against the person from whom you have taken all his immovable assets because he will likely have insufficient funds to bring the cases against you. Even if he can it will take years and probably you can just bribe the court to find in your favour. I truly believe that there are several gangs working in Phuket who target wives of foreigners and use many diiferent ways to con them into putting the property which under Thai law has to be in their name, on the line to a lender - the lender is of course into the scam too and loads all his interest up front knowing full well the property will come to them becasue the rates of interest are simply astronomical. The transfer fees to the land department also add to the cost of the loan. These ^&**&^%$%^ scum basically get a house for about 20% of its value and get the transfer fees paid for them as part of the deal.

It is big business believe me and it needs to be tackled. Instead of a feeling of som num na for some relatively uneducated getting tricked, possibly getting drugged, maybe it would be worth a moment to think of the ingenuity of the people doing the persuasion against which many people have no defence or experience. It would be worth several moments to consider the enormity of the damage done to the foreigner and his kids. Several lives may be destroyed through this. Irreparable damage to the family unit and probably the life savings of the foreigner targetted, leaving him devoid of hope and broken. Remember the Thai woman has probably lost very little as most do not come into a relationship with many assets - it is the foreigners assets being targetted here. The gangs target the foreigners because they have expensive assets and no support when the shit hits the fan - most probably cannot afford to go to court and so the criminal can succeed all too often.

It may be som num na for the wife (if she was drugged then not so and Ii am inclined to believe the people running this sort of scam would more likely than not try that to ensure success). It is not som num na for the guy who has lost everything. The mechanism is 'Sale with right of Redemption". Loan value typically 20% of value of property - add agents fee - add 6 months interest in advance - add transfer fees at the land department - add bribes to the land department if property not in sole name (or subject to lease) as they will have to break the law accepting forged documents to transfer the property. Interest 3% or 4% per month.

Eg. 10 million house - 2 million cash, 50k agents fee, 50k land official, 300k transfer fee = 2.4 million add 6 months at 4% interest 6 x 96,000 = 576,000. So Registered sale of house for 2,976,000 and if in six months you cannot repay the loan = 2,976,000 plus 300,000 transfer fee back = 3,276,000 then the house STAYS WITH the money lender - it's already in his name. If you are the foreigner how will you know this has happened. It's simple - no one will tell you anything, in fact they will be working together to actively hide it, your wife will be scared out of her wits when the realisation finally hits.

Then after 6 months the money lender being a kindly Thai will offer to extend the loan based on money from the next property she has in her name (if more than one), back down the land office, more bribes to agents, land officials and taxes paid to the government. Rinse & repeat until there is no money left. The foreigner will know nothing until it is too late because he will hear nothing and see no-one. Safes don;t help - they can crack them.

Don't be so quick in your judgements people!

There is a new website at thiascare dot com which is collating names of all the people involved in these scams. If you have been 'had' contact the people there - they are well connected and their list of names is gathering momentum. It is totally anonymous by the way. I gave my details already! Get on over there.

    wow!

    Good post

  11. ....and then 450 days later after the divorce, she picks up her share of the house money!

...Would any of you be surprised if this was the case?

    ...no! TIT 55555

I've lived here 18 yrs and these scams go on all the time in Thai society, there so greedy and will jump headfirst into anything that they think is a get rich quick scheme

  12. Same type of scam happened to my wife up here in chaing mai .some guy came around to my land and said they were from a telecom company and wanted to rent a piece of my land to put a mast on and pay a lump sum and rent for 10 years, and of course my wife took the bait, but actually rang me in the uk first and asked me what i thought,i told her to get a lawyer and meet with them,so she took her brother to the meet with her, witch ended up in a hotel room downtown, were they tried to entice her into a card game.luckily my brother in law dragged her out and we never herd any more from them.they claimed they came from hut telephone company, never heard of it,im lucky, might be living in one if it wasn't for the brother in law!

  13. Patong beach is just a dump, its just a place to rip tourists off.I lived there for 12 years and bailed out at the right time,i could write a book on the amount of things ive seen with the tuk tuks and jet-ski scams, timeshare and countless others.I was there from 93 on wards when it was still a nice place and the tuk tuk drivers wouldn't take you up na nai road after midnight because they were scared as they used to get held up and robbed up there.now all they do is rob any fool stupid enough to get in one or beat them up if they question the price.

What bullshit, I lived in Patong back on Na Nai road when it was partial dirt, ( past the Hideaway) from '85--'94 when i moved over to Kamala. There were never any tuk tuk's or Tourists robbed. (homes broken into, yea but after all its Thailand.......

NOTE: its says MINI BUS not Tuk Tuk

Two Dutch tourists were reported to have been assaulted by minibus drivers after they refused to pay 1,000 baht

To all of u, Patong IS NOT Phuket, said it before. Plenty of great places and great people still here on the island

I lived up in ban kanchana in 93 and not many tuk tuks or motorbike taxis would go up there after dark as they said it was dangerous and it wasn't tourists getting robbed it was Thias robbing each other.

  15. A good friend of mine teaches in Bangkok at a private school and told my they very rarely do any background checks on there teachers.Very scary that!

Do these Thai schools not do background checks... who knows what sick twisted Paedo's are teaching our children in the various schools in Thailand You can be sure he is not the only one..... DISGRACEFUL.

  16.
