  1. I lived in patong beach for 12 years and never one time thought about or wanted to go on a jet-ski,the scams there have been going on for years, same with the motorbike rentals, you crash it or splash it be prepared to pay-alot.and forget the police they just hold there hands out for there cut to,its a no win situation for the tourist.just dont rent them and enjoy a less hassle free holiday.

People never learn. There's been so much bad publicity over jet skis in Thailand that anybody still riding them should expect the worst. Only for the rich.

As for the key not coming out. There used to be a trick like this in the mid 1990's. I am not surprised to read that this operator has been renting out jet skis for 30 years.

  2. well ive lived here 17 years, and i find at most checkpoints that i come across, the cops usually wave foreigners on,and if they do stop you its only to ask where you are going.they usually ask if you can speak thai, and ive found if you say no,they wave you on.

The biggest fraud in thailand is the corrupt police pulling every farang they see over in the checkpoints and fining them for bogus things..

  3. A bullet the poor sod.they wont be bothered about him because he was just a poor taxi driver.rip

 So the lady doctor got a new Toyota Camry with a special number 44 or 88....the dead policeman (a hero) got promoted (RIP).....what about the dead taxi driver who tried to stop the killer's get away car?? Wonder what he got?? :jap:

  4. I used to love songkran when i lived in phuket,it was only 3 days, but now i live in chiang mai,2 weeks of people throwing water at me every time i step out the house or car is to much.thats why i leave and go the uk for a month.

This always amazes me that certain people on this forum hate this festival, hate getting wet, hate the whole thing but still go into town.laugh.gif The ones that jump on a plane should just keep going.post-4641-1156694005.gif

  5. well even when they repair the car,no Thai is ever going to drive that car again, not with a pee in it,and i hope whoever was driving it is hunted for the rest of there days!

This story is very sad all the way around. A young girl's life has been cut drastically short and a family is left to grieve. A young man will most likely live with the guilt and pain of the misery he has caused and most likely some legal and financial pain as well.

<deleted>! The young man will have little, if any, long term guilt as the deceased was someone from a far lower station in life, a Lao. The Bangkok elite sees folks such as Lao, Isaan, Burmese, or highland minorities as being a lesser form of life (many see Caucasians in the same way, you bloody gwailo too blind to see the obvious). The financial pain will be minimal. The only pain will be the funds for reimbursing the family of the deceased and the repair of the car, two expenses that will be equated in the minds of the family, will be spent in Thailand and not sent to offshore banks.

  6. hello mate you still in phuket?

Take the gun away from them, and make sure they can not be jetski's best helpers in their scams !

I had heart several times where jetski operators offered Tourist police officers a bid of the ransom !

I had also seen Tourist police look at licenses in bars, when i asked if they got a new job, they tried to bust me for anything they could ! But Som num nar to them !!

Cartoon figures, make a goverment controlled tourist guide system instead, where they help tourists who have problems for free !

No police uniforms and guns !

  7. Enjoyed it during 2008 when the price up here reached 43 Baht for diesel and close to 50 for 91 octane. Roads were clear of the idiots just out joy riding on modified Waves and driving their pickups around just for the h#ll of it.

Did have some sympathy for those trying to make a living but at least they were safer too!

I remember it well. Had just got back from uk and drove from chiang mai to chiang rai for the weekend, and the roads were empty, never seen anything like it,no loonys on the road.plus my sons school was traffic free as well, not the normal everybody taking the car to school.Dont get me wrong i dont like paying more for fuel, but its just a fact of life that its going to get higher.

  8. Happens here all the time, and it wont stop anytime soon,;because nobody;really;gives a shit here.Just another statistic that the;government;isn't;really;interested in.very sad, luckily nobody died, hope the injured have a speedy recovery.I live in chiang mai,and see at least 1 accident a day where i live, never stops.ive been driving here 16 years and it dont get any better!

  9. Apparently there is an Englishman running the country.lol

I must admit I don't often agree with you sorrow lot's of condecending notions on how this country should be run. But on traffic and the culture :whistling: of driving here I fully agree: If the laws are lacking, it is the Governments duty to implement them, and now! And then wait and hope to survive another generation or three for them being enforced. Where are the emoticons in uniform, by the way? - A necessity in most threads these days

If you as a foreigner feel the laws are lacking you are certainly free to go to another country. I for one don't think the Thais need falang telling them how to run their own country B)

Yes for sure there is a whole lot lacking in this jolly, happy, smiling land of Thailand. It sucks as far as their total disregard for road laws. There are no rules and laws as far as most of the drivers are concerned. The enforcement of the rules are totally arbitrary and subject to the whims of the local thugs in brown, and their financial needs on any particular day..

And yes, the poster has every right to make his point without the usual bull of telling him/her to get lost and go elsewhere. What rubbish.

And yes yet again....the Thais need foreigners to help them run their country because they do a cr*p job it it themselves. The hospitality/hotel industry, as just one example, would in my opinion collapse without foreign input.

  10. I drove from chaing mai to doi intanon on saturday, and i had the same problem.i was doing about a 100-110 and i had mini buses either tailgating me or trying to go round 1 side or the other or through me.all these buses are loaded with tourists who must be shitting themselves the way these guys drive, but alas most of the passengers are Thai and im sure wont say anything to the driver, because thats not done .i would never get in a mini bus ever. from c

    RIP to all victims.

I was driving last week end heading North. I was doing 120 - 130 km / h, with a very good and perfectly maintained car. I know that my speed was already over the limit. You can not imagine how many loaded minibus passed me. And how many buses tried to pass, some staying on my side, forcing me to let them go...!!!!!!!! Scary.

These lunatic drivers are definitely not trained for this kind of job, and they do not care about other people lives...

I feel really bad for all those people who have no other choice than using those minibus and buses...

  11. true mate opend my eyes as well.i usualy cover the keyboard anyway when i type my pin,but you never know.

some info about how the crooks get your atm info.

    http://www.slideshar...capturing-scams

    Thanks 1219patrickm. Another great link.

This is probably one of the few times that Thaivisa is actually quite educational and informative. Anyone that has skipped over these links should really consider taking a look. I would probably never have suspected these ATM ad-ons, particularly if you've had a few cleansing brews, and you popped out to the ATM so you can order the last 3 or 4 at last call.

Who ever is manufacturing these devices, certainly know how to make them look professional, but for now on I'm going to keep a keen eye on the machinery that I relinquish my card to. :annoyed:

  12. just like the one in my moo bann.ha ha

Personal defensive device is one of the solution. I think they have to pay monthly charge for security and the garbage management. The security company should have made an insurance for them.(or not) This is an example of High End issue that you can't be all sure to live without a proper protective system for yourself in Pattaya. dude...

    Yes good idea !

  13. I was living in my wifes village at the time, when they gave the million baht to the village for loans for small business, and they all went and borrowed and bought phones, and who owned ais at the time?

Manipulative crook is at it again...The tragic thing is that he still has a lot of support in Thailand, rural areas in particular. They love him because he gave them government loans which they have never repaid. Instead of investing into their small business as agreed they spent all money on mobile phones, cars, gambling and alcohol. No one explained to them that the loan is the loan. You've got to pay it back. It's easy to be generous with the government money,eh. Basically, he gave them 5 baht with his left hand, and took out 50 baht of their pocket with his right hand. And they love him for it!!! Bloody unbeliavable!!! However, you've got to give it to him. He is a master of manipulation.

  14. It makes me absolutely sick to read this. Almost 60 missing after online chats. Dear God. Have to agree with canuckamuck and brahmburgers. As said, stay away from Bangkok and Pattaya. ESPECIALLY Pattaya. My wife had never been to Pattaya before and asked if we could go to visit. I told her NO. She didn't understand until I explained why. Quite naive. After I explained she understood and agreed.

So did mine they think it is a nice beach resort it is a sewer at best. Mine agreed too not to go and was shocked.

my wife nagged me to take her to pattaya.we spent 1 night there and left the next day,she was not impressed!

  15. Every kid in my wife's village over the age of 10 rides a motorbike.its a nightmare in the holidays when there all riding around usually 3 at a time.

This is utterly disgusting. What a repugnant display of the lack of justice in this society.

No, little miss sunshine, it wasn't an "accident". It may have been unintentional, but it was a crime caused by your extreme negligence. Trying to shrug off responsibility for the deaths of 9 people as an "accident" is truly an insult to their memories.

So much for Nisa's theories that this girl is suffering. This girl needs to do hard time. She clearly has no remorse.

    I agree and I don't :)

The girl is guilty as hell, she should do hard time in jail on rice soup sleeping on a floor mat IMO.

The question of bail is a different matter though. She has strong connections to Thailand and is unlikely to flee, she is cooperating with the investigation. I see no reason to not grant her bail. Justice can be served when issue goes up in criminal court later this year, I am sure that she will come. Now, if full justice is going to be handed out or not is a different matter, it's unlikely actually but we must also consider this...

We must also take into consideration that the poorer with no famous surname do what the girl did more often than the rich and the standard that is set must be suitable for the poor too or the most significant change coming out of all this will be enforcement of the double morale that caused the uproar in the first place.

I was back in the village over New Year, a neighbour further down the (dirt) road had bought a Honda Scoopy for her 15 year old daughters birthday that she will use to drive the 17 kilometers (on main inter-city road) from the village to her school in amphur muang and back again every school day for 3 years without a licence. This is so common among the poor that if it were to stop suddenly, then it would put a visible dent in the GDP... I'm not saying that it shouldn't be stopped of course, but punishment must be suitable for the poor as well as the rich

I see an enormous improvement in traffic safety in Thailand the last 20 years. This unfortunate issue will help to improve it even further
