  1. Ok...We will apply when we make an actual plan( 9 months before going?).As i said in the opening topic[for future reference].My mother has a joint rental agreement but not me.I mentioned this because she said she can sponser her or whatever she can do to contribute(she loves her daughter in law and is looking forward to seeing her again :D )but this is in the hands of embassy :o

Yes Penelope, she does have a job and will be opening a small restaurant soon, well spoken & presentable etc(as you say this has a huge effect on the bureacratic process. For any country)

Does her visa have to be a spouse visa or can it be a tourist visa?We don't plan on going there for long.

If we have been married for a year, would it be easier or will it always be difficult?

Thanks to all for your help

  2. Sorry for the delay,I came to Thailand with large sum of money with intentions to travel the world but stayed here.In the meantime i've been studying with a uni in Oz(when finished i intend to work here).I also sold my car recently and my family gave us a hefty wedding gift.Basically money isn't a problem but recently i was unsure how much to have in my Thai account. Now i know.(400,000 to be sure).I like to keep as much as i can in Oz account. If i prove this to Aus embassy, will it ease things? Can't i sponser her?

    Thanks again for help!

  3. Thanks for that bronco,I looked at that site.Very helpful.

Dr PP,No my previous status with her is this:No kids, both in our 20's,didn't meet in a go-go bar,met her soon after arriving in Thailand 2 years ago(spent 95% of that time together)therefore have had no reason to send letters, emails etc to each other. After being in each others pockets for 2 years we decided to get married(1 month ago which my parents flew over to attend).Nothing Dodgy.100% REAL.

Anyway, sounds like a hassle.I was just curious for the future for a visa for her just to go & visit some friends & family and show her where i come from for a couple of weeks (But i forgot to write some letters to her 2 years ago).Seems unfair when a guy can come over here on holiday then get blue balls,go home and send letters for a year or so and maybe a visit or two. When i've been here by her side for 2 years. And now married.

    bronco & Dr PP

Is there any hope or ways around it?Due to my thin evidence.

P.S In the future we would like to go over, not to live.We live here anyway

    Thanks

  4. Hi all,

I have a non-imm o that i'll extend in June(assuming i get the extention) shortly after that i will be renewing my passport.Of course i'll be making photocopies of visas, letter from embassy etc.

Is it as simple as getting the visas stamped into the new passport at immagration?

Has anyone had any experience with this or know the necessary steps?

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks!

  5. I'm wondering what happens if you show your bank book to immigration & you never withdrawl money from that account during the time of your visa(1 year) and then present the untouched balance the following year to immigration?Assuming many people do this and some people have money in an account back home that prefere to live off whilst in Thailand(and just leave that money in Thai account to satisfy immigration).Does anyone do this? Can you do this?Is this doable?

    Thanks!

  6. unbiasbob,

Not many people fly to Penang via Kuala Lumpa because it's exspensive but if you have the money you can arrange the flight.Airasia have some cheap deals on now,i got a return ticket from BKK-Hat Yai for 4,500 bt.Then 300bt minibus from Hat Yai to Penang(20 ringit back to Hat Yai).

Now this time of year you put it in before 11am then get it back the following day after 2pm.2 days in total(busier times of the year 3 days).

The cost of a non imm o through an agent is:

    Single entry 220RM

Multi entry 520RM *The extra 20 is for the service.

You won't need to show bank book for either of these visas but bring it incase because in South East Asia you never know.

  7. Thanks Huski,i understand now.Actually i applied for the 3 month visa instead of 1 year.If i have no luck extending it in BKK(only have 220,000 bt) i will come here or go to Oz & get the 1 year visa.Sometimes you try to do the right thing & end up 2nd best considering there are alot of people staying in Thailand on tourist visas with 'Thai girlfriends' for a long time and not having to show anything.

Thaksin seems to have it in for farangs and he's doing well for a 2nd generation Thai(grandparents Chinese)but if you are Chinese you can go aywhere & set up shop. But if you are a farang in Thailand who wants to be with their WIFE you must pay through your teeth.I know most Thais think we are rich but he knows this isn't the case.Sorry about the 'farang moment' i had can't be jai- yen- yen all the time.

  8. Ok,i'm alot more clearer on this game now & i'm sure your right Dr pat pong about having to eventually show funds in Penang after a couple of times.I,m young & haven't been married long so i'll keep everyone posted on how things go for people in my situation.

Rob,by the look of things down here you can get a multi-entry by showing a marriage certificate & her ID but as the Dr said,i don't know how long it will last.

    Thanks!

  9. I have the correct paper work as follows:

marriage certificate, her I.D,Kasikorn bank account with 200,000 bt transfered from abroad & an address in BKK.(and my wife will come along also).

Is this ok or is there more?

This is a marriage visa, not for retirement.

So,will the 1 year multi-entry have to be extended in BKK too?Or can i come to Penang this time every year & never show funds etc?

Thanks for your help with this, sorry to sound baffled :o

  10. I'm currently in Penang & as soon as i got off the bus i went to a money exchanger. He asked me if i wanted him to take care of the visa by service.I said no.

Regardless of this,he said there were 2 options.

1.The 3 month visa that can be extended 1 year in BKK. OR

2.a Multi-Entry visa valid for 1 year & (leaving Thailand every 3 months)but he said i don't have to extend it in BKK & never show money in a Thai bank account.

Now i'm not sure which one to apply for.I know the laws will be grandfathered if i extend the 3 month visa before July in BKK.But if option 2 is correct wouldn't it be alot more easier?I was advised to get a multi-entry last time i posted but will this interfere with the 'Grandfathering'?

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  11. So infact,it's more beneficial to apply for a Multi Entry or (Re Entry???) :o For both the 3 month and 1 year visa if i am to fly home from time to time within that period? From what i understood provided i have a Multi Entry,i can come & go (due to commitments abroad)as i please.(I'll have to go back home 2 or 3 times in that 13 months for 1 week blocks at Unversity).Whilst living here as normal i will do the necessary border runs.Is this correct?

    Many Thanks!

  12. Hi good people,

I've very recently married a Thai national and now i'm hoping to get a 'non-immagrant o' visa.I have read some of the changes in this post but i'm still not sure what applies to me.

If i get 200,000 bt transfered into a thai bank account along with the marriage certificate and her ID then apply for the 3 month visa(very soon)then extend it before July 10th.Will this mean the current laws apply to me for good?

Obviously i'm looking for the easiest solution due to the tough new laws and i will have to do whatever is required to stay with my wife in Thailand.

If anybody can help me with some clear steps on what to do i would appreciate it greatly. And if my theory is correct, can i apply in Bangkok or outside Thailand?

    Thanks in advance.
