  1. FedEx and DHL are hardly quicker than EMS and much more expensive. You can pretty much guarantee 4 working days and sometimes even 3 with EMS. And that's from deepest Sisaket - but they seem to manage to get a 2pm posting in my local amphur post office onto an evening flight from Ubon every time.

That shipment I referred to earlier was sent from Rasi Salai and was on a fight out of Ubon to BKK that same night. I was pretty pleased with the service. The online tracking worked fine as well.

  2. I don't know of any fedex/dhl offices there, but they must have something. I sent something from Si Saket to the UK last month via Thai Post EMS. It left on Monday and arrived on Friday. I was able to track it online as well. 900 THB.

  3. Just a political figure? Sorry but I don't buy that.

She accepted the position of puppet / fake PM, she knew from the start that it was a fake role, she knew from thee start the rice scam was nothing more than a very massive highly corrupt scam and we now see the results, hundreds of billions of baht unaccounted for, and even more massive losses to come before we get to the end of this scam.

Hundreds of billions of baht stolen from the common wealth of all Thais.

She willingly took part is an unscrupulous and immoral activity to try to ram an amnesty through parliament at 3.00am in the morning whilst the good Thai people were sleeping.

An utter disgrace. PMs etc., should be leadership examples, she, and her ilk, are the example of everything that is inappropriate for leaders to do and say.

Just a political figure? Sorry but I don't buy it.

I'd say that sums it up.

  4. "...as the first job for the new senators could be to remove caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from her post in relation to the rice-pledging scheme"

Some wishful thinking by PAD-Dem's and misdirection by their anti-Democracy crowd.

The coup-mongers trying to use the rice-pledging scheme as cover. Trying to misdirect and disguise their self-serving anti-democracy power grab. They tried the Amnesty thing originally, and have gone through various other attempts to place their unelectable power-grabbing motive within an issue orientation. A slam against one's intelligence, if they think people don't see through this..........Little does this anti-Democracy crowd realise that all issues can be parliamentarized. Using them for coup-mongering purposes just clarifies who they are.

  5. i wrote the letter to NVC about Thai law that I only can get my certified birth certificate from where i born but not Ampher .they review my letter and close my case . its like a miracle now i got my interview date in thailand next month. wonderful

Congratulations. All you need now is your medical and the interview. Make sure you bring lots of pictures of you together. The BKK embassy likes to see pictures more than anything as relationship evidence.

  6. I think most people on here do accept that the Dems have bodged up their attempts to be voted in and accepted by the red area, without doubt.

What most people want is a fair Government that looks out for the whole of the country and its people. PTP proved that they weren't that type of Government by almost creating civil war by bringing in a bill that that looked after the elite of their own corrupt selves and to hell with everyone else. The same government that were pocketing tax payers money, left right and centre.

This country and its people deserve better. If PTP had done their job properly, none of all this would have happened. All it needed to do, was focus on the people, not Thaksin. Done a fair pledging rice scheme, that had secure balances and checks in place, to reduce corruption. To produce a fairer tax system where the rich pay more, so better schools and services are supplied to the poorer areas.

Have the Dems done this? NO.

Have PTP, which is supposed to be their saviour? Hell, have they.

Actions speak louder than words, and PTP should remember that.

I'd say that sums it up nicely. Hopefully they leaned a lesson. No more 4 AM amnesty bills for the dear leader in Dubai. That's what started this mess.

  7. I'm sure Suthep made the offer knowing she wouldn't agree to it.

He would be more than happy to hold a debate with Yingluck. Unfortunately, as Thaksin's glove puppet her performance would be less than stellar.

Maybe if they allowed her to consult with the crook in Dubai before answewring each question, it could work for her. Actually why don't Suthep and Thaksin have a debate via Skype? Thaksin is the one running things anyway. Little sis is just a figurehead.

  8. Not more than an hour from Ubon R. to Sisaket, as It's only 65 km away. They're usually pretty good in timing their schedules. For those who'd like to go shopping in Ubon, there're vans driving from Sisaket bus station to Ubon bus station almost every 30 minutes.

50 baht, air conditioned and faster than a train. Taxis in Ubon Ratchathani and in Sisaket are dirt cheap. But you need to be able to speak Thai, when calling a cab, as they wanna know where to pick you up and where you'd like to go to.

    Sisaket Taxi: 045-620797

    Taxi Ubon: 045-.256111

    Good info. Thanks!

  9. " I am here to protect democracy. If I resign, there will be a vacuum which paves the way for an abolition of the Constitution and [bringing in] an undemocratic system. I have to protect democracy in my capacity as leader of the government. "

Nonsense from beginning to end. A vacuum is what we have right here and right now. And the constitution is the very instrument that will deal with it. The constitution states that if a parliamentary quorum is not achieved by March 4, the administration folds, and the constitution takes over with the process that follows. Either she steps down now or on March 4 is entirely up to her, but after that the constitution doesn't give her a choice. What she is protecting first and foremost is Thaksin. Thaksin is the only reason she is prime minister, and Thaksin is the only reason she is staying. And instead of going to the province of Saraburi today, why didn't she go to Trat ? Why didn't she go to Ratchaprason ? Is this the example she is setting as prime minister ? Is this how she bonds with the Thai people after such unspeakable crimes against humanity ?

Great post. This is all about Thaksin. Anyone who thinks it isn't, is fooling themselves.

Yes in a sense you are correct.

Thaksin sought to modernize the economy. This involved financially empowering the farmers-- but the real goal (if the history of other countries emerging from the stranglehold of feudal economics is anything to go by) he threatened to open the playing field for 'new capitalists' (you recall of course, the hatred of the PAD for 'capitalism'- which seems strange considering that many of its supporters were very wealthy- but it was the wealth of the hereditary monopoly- not the dog eat dog darwinian struggle that modern capitalism entails.

Back in the 80s it was said that about 12 families controlled the entire economy of the country- More than any one person- Thaksin threatened that system. And in so doing brought the farmers along in order to obtain the votes needed to bring Thailand into the twentieth century.

All the crap about his corruption (do you honestly think Thais hate corruption? That suthep hates corruption?) is pablum tossed to people who can't understand t he bigger picture (like many on this board) the real issue is a marked change in the economic and political power structures of the country- the old is being challenged by the new- and that never goes down easily.

If Thaksin is this great leader, then why hasn't he come back to face the charges against him? People say they are politically motivated, but who is running the country? His very own clone. Why did he have his allies push for his amnesty when he knew full well what the result would be? As far as "financially empowering" the farmers, you don't do that by giving them handouts, which is exaclty what he did. You know the whole thing about teach a man to fish vs. giving him a fish? Thaksin gave them the proverbial fish and they think that's great. Nevermind that he was stealing billions while handing out these "fish" I wonder how much better off they would be if he had instituted policies to help them, help themselves, rather than just blatant vote buying?

If he's this great man, why hasn't he kept his word to stay out of politics? I'm sorry you can't see it, but Thaksin doesn't care about anyone other than Thaksin. He doesn't even care about his own sister.

  10. Suthep is to blame for everything. Put Suthep back in his box or a hole in the ground and the travesties, treason, insurrection would never have happened. Thugs come out from under their rotting logs for this and go quiet without leadership. Backroom coup plotters can only plot.

Should of been taken down long ago. Maybe now, ironically, the reds may bring the streets fo Bangkok back to order. Bring it on!

As I recall it was the PTP who pushed through this amnesty proposal at 4 AM while the country slept. That's what got this going. Not sure why people are having a hard time grasping that. If you're looking to place blame, look at the man in Dubai. Remember Yingluck and PTP have been in power since July 2011. 2.5 years. If this was simply a matter of undemocratically trying to remove her, then why didn't this PDRC shutdown happen, in 2011 or 2012 or earlier in 2013? The stupid move to try and absolve the criminal in Dubai of his crimes was the match that lit this fire.

The failure of the rice bribe didn't help matters either.

  11. I used to live in my wife's village for a year, before we actually moved to Sisaket. Neither could I communicate with them, nor did they understand where I came from.

I was the first foreigner they'd seen in their village, then I had to pass all the being a man tests. Drank Lao Khao on daily bases with them, arm wrestling with the strongest guys who didn't believe why they'd lost, went to the rice fields in the morning around 6 am.

After all, a very good lesson for all involved. Nowadays we sometimes visit Ban Jai, and all of us are happy when back in town. Here's a Morlam dance show, which was shown in the middle of the local temple.

Just wondering how the monks' meditation went on this day. Didn't see them this evening.......seems that they had to wear horse blinders.

You won't see that in Pattaya in the same environment. I love Isaan people. Aeeh, their mentality.

    P.S. Most f them are single.............................biggrin.png

We plan on moving to Si Saket in a few years. Watching that video makes me wonder how long it will take for the wife to change the locks, throw me out of the house I bought, and have me be back in BKK begging for beer money on Nana. Maybe you'll see a story about me in Coconuts one day.

  12. . While she was obtaining this I contacted the NVC and told them she would bring this document to her interview at the embassy. After a 10 day wait the NVC finally emailed us back stating they had forwarded our case to the Bangkok Embassy and gave us a visa interview date with instructions to bring the missing document to the interview.

That's good NVC let you do that. Saved alot of postal charges etc. I'm sure. NVC is usually pretty good to deal with, unlike USCIS.

  13. I have the same problem .NVC told me I have to get my certified copy of my birth certificate at Ampher but where is that and anyone can give me the sample of the right certified copy of birth certificate and the address to ask for in Thailand . This is 2nd times they told me its not the one they want and noone give me the right information I was cry and really unhappy with this. pls help thank you

There are Amphoes all over the country. They are the district offices. In order to get a certified copy it would need to be done where your birth was registered.

The Amphoe where your birth was registered is on your birth certificate.

Contact info for Amphoes can be found here: http://www.amphoe.com/main.php

My wife actually got hers from an Amphur in Chiang Mai even though she was born in Si Saket, and NVC accepted it. My wife's birth was never registered that I know of. They issued a document in Thai that I had translated into English and sent to NVC. This is what it says:

This is to certify the Mrs. (First Name/Last Name) Thai Nationality aged (age) years was born on (BirthDate). Identification No. (Thai ID number) residing at (Chiang Mai Address) Father's name (Father's name) Thai nationality (Mother's name) Thai nationality born at (Full Address Amphur Tambon etc. in SiSaket)

The District Office has examined the document, interrogated the applicant and the witnesses , it can be assured that Mrs. (First Name/Last Name) was born at the place above.

NVC accepted this with no issues. Keep in mind everything MUST be an original when dealing with NVC.
