    Brilliantly stated, JAG.

One thing that appals me almost as much as the junta itself is those Westerners who have enjoyed in the West all the benefits of good, analytical and open education, plus freedom of speech, and yet come here and support tyranny enforced at the end of a barrel of a tank or gun. For me, such types are beneath contempt.

But 'they' arent real people  and are posting just to keep the numbers up by posting outrage inciting posts. Ive got them on ignore, but i dont login so much these days and when browsing see the banal drivel and then the outraged replies...frustrating to say the least..

Funnily enough I,m in Samui at this time (first ever visit) and I have yet to see/feel any racism towards westerners....perhaps my attitude to Thai folks is different to yours :whistling:

Just cause you either dont recognize it or havent experienced it yet doesnt give you the 'all knowing best atitude' crown..(added pointless smartass emoti?)...hey but slagging on someone with a legit issue is fun right?

The Chinese are making very few people mega rich (likely more mega rich than they already are) as the tours only go to selected places to shop, eat & visit. The man on the street does not benefit the same as they used to when they were able to attract walk by customers.

This is the way 'they' want it, a robust lower middle class is the enemy of the super rich in power..

    Declare the value.

Flag it for #1 five finger discount shopping.

In Oz, the post office staff have to physically sight the product that you send before the insurance cover is accepted.

Could have been an empty box for all everyone else knows.

    But a nice target anyway.

The TV detective in me is coming out

A . Why is there a table in toilet

B Look how high the bullet hole is in comparison to an actual table

C It hit a Woman in the shoulder, so she was either  a dwarf or sitting down

D The bullet went on and hit a woman in the belly who was sitting down (Perhaps a very high chair)

I'm no gun expert but that's a very strange trajectory

Because in no way is the story here straight,

Their ribbons are "meaningless" and their badges are "pretentious"?  Says who, and based on what?  "Ludicrously inflated ranks", again, who says that their ranks are "inflated" and what do you mean by that?

Your last sentence confirms just how little you really know about the members of the Thai armed forces.

Well, please do inform us of how his assesment is wrong and explain how you know better thanks.

  7. In my opinion, in 10-15 years this guy, given the right political climate (what ever that means here) could be running this country...In a poll I took with 1300 vocational students 95% said Body Slam was there number 1 band. And if he continues with these sort of publicity attracting charity events his popularity will grow with the older set as well.

  8. No one I speak to is happy with the economy and as anyone with half a brain knows, uphappy people spend less and this just snowballs. I see it firsthand trying to sell some of my belongings at greatly reduced prices. They are of course fast tracking projects that suit them, eg: the 7 extension to utapo, they want to be able to go from their bkk mansions to their private jets without having to stop. Their boots are now well full and overflowing. I feel badly for the locals that have been disempowered and now thoroughly shafted..

Well I have to say what a great night we had last night near our village with plenty of food and drink. Many ordinary folks talking about farming and country living. And I can whole heartedly say that most were happy that the Junta will be in power for years to come. The reason most wanted was because of economic stability. So good to hear all their positives and yes, there were negative comments as well.

good luck to all the farmers ....  and to the TV nayers....  well, they can go do what the hell they like because no one is interested in their comments. They should get out while they are fit enough to travel, Laos, Cambodia and many other nice places i'm sure their whinging and whining will be appreciated more.  lol  ..:coffee1:

I actually agree with you to some extent - Thailand seems incapable of producing a democratically elected PM of worth. Perhaps this says as much about the Thai political system and the expectations of the electorate as the calibre of individuals on offer for the PM role. The best leader I can recall was a short term appointee, Anand,  following the overthrow of the Suchinda government in 1992, who at least introduced some much needed reform. Thailand has not produced leaders able to combine charisma and competence. Thaksin seemed the most likely to play the kind of role expected of a PM, but like so many before and after him, fell short of the qualities required of an effective democratic leader. Hence the military interventions and the Prayuts that get to rule this country. Really it's kind of sad that Thailand doesn't seem to have made genuine political progress in the last two and a half decades.

It always gets back to that old saying: "those that seek power are least best fit to have it".  I have a solution, well in my mind i have, leaders need to conscripted into office out of a pool of a wide range of demographics...that way we and i mean the whole world might get some polyshitcans of worth and not wholey consumed with filling their boots whilst in office..radical yes but better than the farce we endure now..
