  1. Again please, in more details.

Actually there is a way of importing a bike tax free, under certain conditions. Done it many times.

Importing fully or just visiting / transit ??

    ----------------------------------------------------------

I made inquires for a permanent import.According to the customs web you are allowed one permanent import with a one year multiple entry vis,but duty is payable. You also need a import permit from the department of trade.

If you have any info that might be of help please let us know mate.

  2. So Jay. This was all taken from the customs website. But most people know that the customs man at the port does not know or care what it says. they make the rules them selves. they tell you how much you will pay. The advice is sell it in the UK (or keep it for when you go back and see the folks) BUT do not try and bring it here. THE Thai CUSTOMS AND POLICE ARE CRIMINAL. well that's what the UN say any way :):D

Jay. We understand that when you look at the website and ask for details it looks doable. But in reality it takes a lot more money than they initially ask for.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your 100% right bro.I know what you mean as I said I am looking into it but you are right in what you said.

  3. import duties and taxes imposed on this import are calculated as follows:

    1. Import duty

= (CIF value * Rate of import duty)

    = (100 * 0.8)

    = 80 Thai Baht

    2. Excise tax = (CIF value + import duty) * {Rate of excise tax/1-(1.1 * Rate of excise tax)}

    = (100+80) * {0.35/1-(1.1*0.35)}

    = 180 * 0.5691057

    = 102.439 Thai Baht

    3. Interior tax = Excise tax * Rate of interior tax

    = 102.439 * 0.1

    = 102.439 Thai Baht

    4. Base VAT = (CIF value+ Import duty+ Excise tax + Interior tax)

    = (100 + 80 + 102.439 + 10.2439)

    = 292.6829 Thai Baht

    5. VAT = Base VAT * VAT Rate

    = 292.6829 *0.07

    = 20.4878 Thai Baht

    Total taxes and duties = 1 + 2 + 3 + 5 = 213.171 Thai Baht

  4. I will be living in Hua Hie,I note the a growing big bike community in Thailand and what's out there for sale.I want to brining my 2002 Ducati 998S had it since new and only done 7500 miles. The bike is in mint condition and and I have the 50mm Trem's ans the slipper clutch.

Cannot be muchof a bike for only 800 miles a year. Or dont you ride much?

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your right mate,I have several bikes and the Ducati is one of them.I haven't got much time anyway because of work, when I do find the time it rains. The bike has been off the road since 2006.

  5. Have they given you a definite indication of the duty payable, in writing?

When I asked several years ago about bringing my m/cycle to Thailand I was informed that the import duty was 150% of the value THEY put on my bike.

If someone takes a shine to your Duke don't be surprised if the value should suddenly go up when it hits the quayside in BKK.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I first need to apply for a import permit and working on it at the moment. The valuation price was taken from the parkers price guide. On top of the duty I will have to pay the clearing agents fees.I will have all the necessary documents from the customs so the bike will be legitimate and Taxing,Registering the bike for the Green book and Insuring will all fall in to place, and when I get stop by the boys in tight brown pants the bike will be road legal. If I do sell the bike in the feature I will have the paper trail all the way from the UK.I am still thinking about the move and looking into all the unknown.I have found my self a good European agent and we are working closely

together. They will NOT squeeze my balls and take my bike off me,if shit hits the fan and things gets nasty I will send my bike back home to the UK ASAP.I am NOT desperate.

    Import Calculations

    Motorbike

    Brand/Type: Ducati 998S

    Year: 2002

    Estimated Price: 5000 GBP

Est. price THB 285000 Ex. Rate: 57 THB/GBP

    FOB Value of the Motorbike

    285,000.00 x 11% = 316,350.00

    Import Duty

    316,350.00 x 60% = 189,810.00

    Excise Tax

    506,160.00 / 20.23255 = 25,017.11

    Interior Tax

    25,017.11 x 10% = 2,501.71

    VAT

    502,328.82 x 7% = 35,163.02

    Total import tax

    252,491.84

  6. Hi all I am thinking of bringing my bid bike to Thailand. The duty and shipping will cost me a few thousand £,I like riding my bike so I don't mind going through the hassle and the sleepless nights getting my bike across.

Thailand having motorway restrictions on bikes is it worth going through the hassle and cost associated with the move.

I would appreciate all positive comments, and safe riding.

The restrictions are only in Bangkok (I think) so it depends on where you are going to be living. Otherwise, if you got the cash, I say do it. Lots of big bikes and big bikers here. You may still want to see what's available over here first though. Big bikes are becoming available at a greater rate and in some cases at more reasonable prices. (Compared to how they used to be here, not compared to how much they are back home)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  7. Update:

My Daughter has been raising hel_l with UPS in the states, we were told that the deadline to get an import license was Tuesday, I got a call from UPS thailand yesturday, a different person who I had been dealing with before, he told me that thier partner in the states had contacted them about my helmets and that they were going to get them cleared through customs if I would agree to pay the import tax, I replied that of course I would pay import duty, I told them that from the start, anyway they delivered the helmets today and I paid 4500 baht import tax which is what I expected from the start, they would not give me an explanation as to why all the run around, I think that because they were contacted from UPS stateside, the scam was caught out and they had to do the right thing, now I;m wondering if customs had anything to do with it or was it all the local UPS people, I can't see customs changing thier mind because of a call from stateside UPS???

Well done on sticking to your guns, what a bunch of chancers! I have had a camera and very expensive mobile phone sent to me on separate occasions by normal Royal UK Mail with no problems. Just got my parents to wrap them well in brown plain paper, put down 'present/gift' and job done! Bit of a gamble really!

To be honest, regarding stuff I send from here and stuff I have sent here, I am convinced you are better off using 'normal Mail service'.

Glad you got your helmets, strange....one minute it needs testing etc and next....no problem!! :)

What a load of bulloc**,testing my As** bunch of crooks I am glad that you had the last laugh.

  9. Greetings all,

In the last 12 months I have become increasingly annoyed by the "no motorbikes" policy on the capitals Freeways and ring roads. Now I can understand a "No scooter" policy, as having recently arrived from Vietnam I have seen daily the carnage that happens when you mix underpowered scooters with overloaded trucks (and riding expertise and mentality of a 10 year old). Its messy.

On the occassions I have had to ride across BKK from Chiang Mai to Pattaya and Pattaya to Hua Hin I have taken the freeways and ring roads, played the dumb falalng card and been prepared to take my lumps should the BIB be waiting for me at the end of the road... I understand the fine can be 1000 baht. (The dumb falang manoeuvre involves arriving at the toll gate with a happy confused smile, and, when being told "no bike!" and being directed to U-turn, waving happily and thanking them and taking off... rapidly down the freeway.)

So far so good: The (9) ring road from the Chonburi-Trat rd (34) to the southern highway (4) at sun rise with the reflection off the bridge is an esctatic moment in motorbike memory for sure... And the worst I have had is a wry smile and amused smile form the toll booth operators at the other end.

But this is not sustainable. I am going to get nicked by the rozzers for sure. I've got a nice bike and I dont want it confiscated.

    So:

Bolloc** if I want to ride my big bike from Hua Hie to Pattaya it's a NO NO.

What are the alternative routes north to south and east to west?

    And:

Given the number of big bikes is increasing and more pertiniently being sold to Thais, any rumours of a relaxation of the rules?

I cannot believe I am the only one who is disgruntled with this, so I look forward to some wisdom...

    Cheers,

    f0xxee

  10. At National Stadium, outside on the overhead walks near the Tokyo department store entrance, police regularly set up a cigarette sting there. It is the police, it is not inside the BTS turnstyles. On the steps and the cross overs above Sukhumvit, there is no signage until you get to the central platform where no smoking is clearly posted, but no ashtrays available. Since I knew this scam, my friend and I stopped, put out the cigarettes and pocketed them. We were stopped in the same manner described by this article and 10,000 baht fine each for littering. When we produced the cigarette butts, there were grins all around and we were released.

From my experience, this story is entirely plausible. And thanks Thai Visa, it was here that I learned about this scam and how to protect myself.

Glad we could be of service to you. Please forward your payment to 'Neverdie' C/- Thai Visa, make sure you cross the cheque not negotiable, you know george :D . If payment isnt made with 14 days, you may be taken hostage at HQ and kept until a large ransom is met :D:D:)

    Neverdie you Naughty boy :D

  11. mate I see you have mentioned half a container. It will be cheaper for you to get an 20tf container, the container will come to you for 3hours,anything more there is a hourly charge. You can pack all your belongings before the container arrives and have some of your mates ready to help you load the container.this will work out much cheaper. All you will need is a clearing agent in Thailand. If you need an agent I can forward you some info of a good agent. The Uk Thailand root is a busy one a 20 ft container would cost you £700 to £800.This worked out cheeper for me mate, have a look in to it.

    Good luck mate

    ANDREW

OK...sounds good, could you PM me some more details on this procedure.I take it the container isn't coming from a removal company as I also had a quote where the price doubled for sole use of the container.I would really appreciate if you would PM me and take me thru how you did it as that is more like what I'd like to do.

    Thanks

    ........................................................

As for the electrical information being posted here.......keep it coming guys,I may not be replying to it,but I am most certainly reading and learning from every post you people are making, and I've no doubt I will be asking more questions soon enough.

    Thanks to you all.

Have a look at your PM with ref to clearing agent in BKK

    Thanks,ANDREW

  12. Well I was expecting the wheelie! :D

  13. Why would you want to haul an electric oven over here?

Electricity cost an arm and a leg, and gas gets the roast nice and juicy.

Well I'm certainly open for advice, one thing I would have to factor in, is that I very much doubt I would find one locally to me and the logistics involved in getting one from Bangkok may just be too much hassle. How do they operate anyway, off the bottle, the same as those table top gas hobs???

Got any links to where I can browse some gas ovens, failing that option,I'm paying for half a container anyway so I may as well use up the space. As I remember it,the cost of electricity when I was last there was not expensive at all, can't be any more expensive than the UK.

But having said that, you have got my attention so if you can tell me anymore details it would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  14. What a bunch of. .. MINDLESSNESS EDITED FOR CLARITY :)

I see the "judge, jury and executioner" of all things thai has weighed in with a satang's worth of unwanted words of wisdom.

As I said; I've seen that guy almost every day for the last 4 years; he's always keeps to himself, although I've seen other "indian-ish" people sitting with him on occasion. Just last week when I was leaving Tops Market I noticed he had 3 empty bottles of wine and 4 big empty beer bottles on his table. He can really polish it off, but he always keeps to himself, and when he leaves he's remarkably stable for having imbibed that amount of alcohol.

In answer to the illustrious poster known as Soutpeel: it wouldn't bother me one iota if I tried to engage him in conversation and he told me to "<deleted> off". He'd be filed into the category of: "just another f*cked-up foreigner" here in the glorious "Land 'O Thais". It will come as no surprise here in thailand; that category has quite a lot of people filed in it.

Sadly with Soutpeel being neither my father nor someone with even a modicum of say in my life, the stern admonishment to "leave him alone" falls on deaf ears. Last time I checked, I pretty much I do what I want here; neither seeking permission nor approval, especially from anonymous posters on an internet forum.

If he's there tonite when I go to Top's, I'll see if I can get him to acknowledge me with a reciprocal hello or at the very least a nod of the head. It'd be progress, and here I measure progress in baby steps. .. :D

  15. Bullshit.

I was duped by this sad, sad story. I was so incensed that I went to KingPower's web site to write them a nasty note (http://www.kingpower.com/2009/index.php) when I see they are running the videos.

The Chinese broad STOLE the wallet and the Brit puffter helped her do it.

They ought to get jail time - they are screwing it up for the rest of us.

You are completely missing the point here.

The point is that it is completely unacceptable to extort large sums of money from people regardless of whether they have committed a petty crime or not.

King Power employees MUST know about this and be complicit in the extortion. There is likely a kick back to the manager of the store or this wouldn't happen.

If King Power claim this isn't the case then maybe they would like to explain why none of the shoplifters are prosecuted and the cases mysteriously dropped by the police despite the evidence. They publish this video evidence of the British guy yet took no action, this demonstrates that someone inside the company knows all about it, why else would they allow them to go free when they have the evidence to secure a conviction and compensation through the courts.

This story will help to destroy King Power, and rightly so.

YES YOUR RIGHT.you make a very good point, this got all the TELL TELL sings of a Scam.

  16. I used these guys and the service was very good. The BKK base company is managed by Europeans and the communication was good.

You can email Stein on: [email protected]

and put all your questions forward first. It will cheaper for you to pack your own container with help from mats in Auss then giving it over to an agent in Auss.If you got quality stuff it's worth paying the duty.

    Good luck hope this helps
