  1. Hey Im trying to set up a visa run by air for my mother, I will be away so cant do it with her. Im a little confused about something. When she flies into Cambodia and has a flight out like 2 hours later to return to Thailand, is she going through Cambodian immigration or is it considered just transiting back to Thailand? I ask because one of the flight packages available has a 1 hour window from landing to taking off again and if going through security AND immigration theres no way shed make the flight back. So just wondering why they even offer that flight if its not possible.
  2. Hi I cant find this info anywhere, I read about it before but forget where. Do they have a 7 day extension possible after the 30 day extension? This is for a visa exempt for a Canadian.
  3. Just an update, after almost a month from surgery my condition is great. It has been healing VERY fast. I think because theres no mesh involved it heals quickly and no complications. I started going to the gym again 2 weeks ago and have been increasing my workouts bit by bit and Im pretty much close to being able to do anyting again. I dont do situps or crunches yet though, they dont really hurt much but figured id wait a week or 2 before incorporating them back into my workouts, but full on weight training and even muaythai at 50%. Theres only slight pain left, most of the time I forget about my surgery until I move a certain way but even then its very mild now. I was terrified of sneezing that first week but now I can sneeze, cough and poop no problem ????
  4. Hey Im not really keen on putting some decals on my wheels myself, Im sure to screw it up, can anyone recommend a shop with experience that would be able to put them on for me? Thankyou
  5. No OHIP card Im from BC. I think if youre an Ontario resident its free or much much cheaper.
  6. I have read alot of the threads here about hernia surgeries in Thailand over the past 10 or so years and finally decided to get it done but went to Shouldice hospital in Toronto Canada. My hernia was quite big, but its all taken care of now and Im feeling great. Just wanted to let people know my experience in case they are looking for alternatives to Thailand for the repair surgery. Shouldice DOES NOT use mesh, which cuts down on possible complications, rejections, side effects etc. As far as I know all thai surgeons here use a mesh. I really didnt want to go that route and Im very happy I didnt. I flew to Canada, stayed in a hotel the night before my surgery close to the hospital, then stayed at shouldice 4 days (check in day, next day surgery, then 3 days recovering in the hospital room) and then stayed at a friends place for a week before taking the big flight back to Thailand. They recommend you DONT do a long flight in the first week after surgery so I followed the doctors advice. Heres how it played out: You check in, get your room shared by one other person. Next day your surgery is scheduled somewhere from morning to early afternoon, there are 6 time slots with 5 operating rooms going at once, so they do 30 surgeries a day. This hospital only does hernias. You shower before surgery and get shaved quickly by a nurse. When its your time you go down to the waiting room watching tv and they cover you with a heated blanket until your called into the operating room. I waited 40 minutes there. Once inside they lie you down and give you a sedative intraveneously. One second your talking to them the next you wake up in your room. This is NOT general anasthetic, they give you local anasthetic and a sedative. The sedative knocks you out. I was happy as hell to have slept through the whole thing. Do NOT refuse the strong pain killer Toredal like I did the first day ???? that works wonders on the pain, the tylenol is NOT enough, especially the first 3 days, after that you will be fine. I took toredal and 2 tylenol every 6 hours and that let me walk around and go to the dining area to eat etc. The first day of surgery though you stay in bed and they bring you food but after that they tell you to walk around every hour or so. Without the Toredal that was a nightmare. The food is good, you eat alot if you dont make an effort not to, theres 3 meals a day and snack before bed lol. You are woken up at 6am every day to take pain killers and get blood pressure checked etc. It cost me $3500 Canadian, Im not sure if the price is higher for non Canadians, there were A LOT of people from other countries that came in just for the surgery. I can apparently get some of that money back from the government and from my insurance provider but up front it cost me $3500 CAD. Of course that doesnt take into account the cost of flights. All in all it was a great experience considering I was getting surgery, I waited a long time and had trouble deciding what to do but Im glad I made the choice to go get it done at Shouldice in Canada. I posted this because a lot of the information here is outdated, so heres a fresh perspective and account.
  7. Heya looking for the traditional type of chritmas meal, turkey, stuffing, cranberries etc,. The lobster and seafood buffets look nice but my mother demands traditional so does anyone recommend somewhere in bangkok? Thanks
  8. The Canadian banks rob you blind, Wise cost me 1% and the bank would cost me 3% with their terrible exchange rate.
  9. So long story short..(Im the OP) it was all for nothing.....lol, I do in fact have the correct FTT codes in my bankbook (from doing Wise transfer and NOT picking "long term stay" which leads me to believe Bangkok Bank now has an understanding with Wise and marks all their transfers FTT) so its all the proof required for immigration BUT because of a miscommunication with a certain somebody looking after my aunt I landed up paying up the 25k baht agency fee in Pattaya to get the 15 month visa as we had only 1 hour left to do it and the whole thing was a complete flustercuck. If we didnt have 10 things going on at once we just would have taken my aunt out of the country for the day to give her time to let the 800k baht season in the bank for 2 months even though this is a huge hassle as shes got mild dementia and isnt terribly strong to travel. This is extremely annoying that Pattaya is so corrupt they dont even follow the governments laws of not requiring 2 months to season the money for the Non-O visa application. But whatever... amazing Thailand.
  10. Im not old enough for a retirement visa, I had a work permit for over 10 years but then moved away and just recently returned with some older family members that are seeking the retirment visa. I have to do everything for them.
  11. Ok but in my bank statement it says international transfer next to the money amounts that got transferred, is that enough you think or do I need this FTT code somewhere else too?
  12. Well, I did NOT choose "long term stay" in Wise and my Wise receipt indeed says local transfer, BUT in my bank statement it says "international transfer", surely the bank statement at Bangkok Bank will be enough proof to satisfy them?
  13. I did this too, mostly just to not alert my government by going over their limit ($10k and up alerts the government). Im not terribly worried but why involve the government if I dont have to, <deleted> them.
  14. Excellent thankyou, so when you went to your bank they gave you the correct document showing the money came from aborad to give to immigration?
  15. If you transfer 800k from abroad to a thai bank account using Wise it costs about 1% in fees, if you use a bank to bank transfer the exchange rate is so bad you land up paying MUCH more, like triple or more what Wise costs you. Has anyone used Wise for their retirement visa and been able to get a document from the Thai bank proving that the funds came from abroad? Im worried because I realised Wise works by paying out to the Thai bank from another Thai bank (as far as I understand) which would seem to no longer be an International transfer with no way to prove it is.
  16. Yes Id heard this option... so in that case her money would be able to sit in the bank 2 months and fulfill the Pattaya requirement and then it would be cheaper and easier to just apply for the non O visa and retirement visa after that?
  17. ok unfortunately the nursing home we found which is great is in Pattaya, so people talking about 5000 baht agents are simply not a thing for us to consider in Pattaya? She must use the agents that charge 25k even though we have our own funds in a bank account (800k)
  18. Ok so the explanation I got for the 25k baht fee using agent is because the 800k baht in her account hasnt been there for 2 months... so how on earth does someone have the 800k in the bank for 2 months BEFORE starting this retirement visa process? They are supposed to do visa runs for the first 2 months?
