  1. ok so.... thankyou all for your help but Im getting a bit of conflicting info from Pattaya agents. Ive contacted 3, they are all asking for 25k to 27k baht for a 15 month visa. This is even with me telling them we already have 800k in a thai bank account under my aunts name as of this week. I was kinda under the impression it would cost 5k baht with the money already in an account.
  2. Thankyou, for 5.3 do you know what evidence of foreign currency fund transferred to thailand is? We tranferred money from her sister in Canada to my Aunt in Thailands thai bank account using Wise.
  3. Hi, I searched google but cant quite get the answers I need based on our particular situation. Heres the situation: My 73 year old aunt with mild dementia is staying at a nursing home in Pattaya, she wants a retirement visa, she has 800k baht from overseas now sitting in her Thai bank account. The last day she can start the process is Monday (someting about applying before 2 weeks of visa stamp expiry) She has a visa exempt that has been extended one month and expires November 22nd. Her bank branch is in Bangkok but as I said shes in Pattaya. Travelling back and forth to banks and immigration between cities is a serious hassle for her, do I really need to bring her all over the place to get this done? I know we need some sort of form or bank letter stating the 800k is there, can I only get that letter/form from her intial branch she opened the account at? Is it a difficult form to get from them? She obviously has to be at the bank in person to request the form? I understand the money must sit in the account for 6 months.... what happens during those initial 6 months? Do they switch her visa to a non O and then keep extending it for her until the 6 months is up then issue an official retirement visa? Thankyou for any information.
  4. Hi I tried to find this info online to no avail but is there a photo service near the new immigration at IT Square Laksi? Assuming this is indeed the right place to go for a visa extension. We need one passport photo each apparently. Thankyou
  5. Hi, does anyone know where you can buy cream for coffee like you do in the west (a cold carton in the fridge) thankyou
  6. Oooh I didnt even consider the app aspect, Id probably be looking for something that is usable with my apple watch and iphone health system.
  7. Does anyone have advice or experience buying a good scale to weigh oneself in Bangkok? And if there is a digital scale that measures other things like bmi. Thankyou
  8. We went to Sukhumvit, got some tests done, everything turned up normal, so not sure what to think. And it cost 5000 baht which I thought was excessive for Thailand.
  9. Im really leaning towards Sukhumvit hospital just because its very close to our hotel, my moms not a big fan of hour long cab rides at the moment. We will go first thing in the morning. Unless someone here says its much better to go somewhere else before we leave.
  10. She feels like she has to pee all the time and when she does barely anything comes out. She has started to see some small amount of blood.
  11. My mom needs to get checked out for a possible kidney issue. Is sukhumvit hospital decent? Anybody prefer other hospitals? Would it be very expensive to get a full check up with multiple tests? If she got medical insurance for her stay here is that just for emergencies or does it cover other stuff? Thanks in advance.
  12. Ok so if we have the 800k in a Thai bank account she would not have to leave the country to transfer her visa exempt to a non O using an agent? The problem Ive been having is opening a bank account at all with no work permit. How do they expect us to put the money in a Thai bank account when they dont let us open a Thai bank account lol, ok ok I do know I can use an agent to open an account which is what I'll have to do I guess I just find it amusing the weird circle of non functionality this whole process is.
  13. Ok I have a bit of a weird situation so any advice is greatly appreciated, my family member is going into a nursing home here in Bangkok, she will obviously need a retirement visa, but the thought of a little old lady with dementia doing visa runs or going to immigration repeatedly is ludicrous, so Im guessing an agent is the best route to go? Is there a legal way to use an agent to turn her visa exempt into the correct visa for retirement and doing the entire process while shes in the nursing home? We do have power of attourney but no idea if that is even recognised or necessary here.
  14. Saw the old thread that started almost 20 years ago and hasnt been updated in over 10 years. Please dont move this to the medical forum, Im not asking for medical information. Im asking if anyone has recent experiences with Nursing homes in Thailand. Any good or bad experience? Thanks
  15. ok so my family all got the cheaper ($50 CAD) rapid antigen test with results in 20 minutes at Shoppers drug mart. This test was administered by someone in a tiny room at Shoppers and they gave us only a paper (no email) with the negative result and other info on it and that was all we had to show to the check in people at airport and it was fine, no need to spend $150 on a pcr test. We got the test 48 hours before flying but they gave us results on premises within 20 minutes.
  16. Ok so... I read a lot of the info on here about phone plans and what I should get, went to an AIS shop and he just offered me "The One Sim" for 200 baht a month. Now Im a tourist so figured maybe this was my only option, I asked if they had any more expensive plans lol and he said no. The One sim he said was 15mbps unlimitted, free calls at 15 minutes each call, no sms and just top it up at 200 baht each month. Going to the website, it looks way more complicated than what he told me, also the tourist sim seemed way more expensive and different but that wasnt an option for me. Just a little confused. I cant receive sms or I just cant send sms? Am I going to be charged for internet use over 2gb or is it really unlimitted like he said? Thankyou to anyone that can shed some light.
  17. Well just because its a pcr test doesnt mean its the pcr test they approve lol. I know Brazil did not approve the saliva test even though its a PCR test. At this point Im trying to convince my mother that the rapid antigen (pro atk) test where they just swab the start of your nostril will not in fact kill her.
  18. Nothings changed, you misunderstand what PCR means, it does not mean nasal swab test. Both Saliva and nasal swab can be PCR tests.
  19. Actually the saliva test IS a PCR test which is what Thailand asks for, Im just curious if anyones actually used that method.
