My mom needs to get checked out for a possible kidney issue. Is sukhumvit hospital decent? Anybody prefer other hospitals? Would it be very expensive to get a full check up with multiple tests? If she got medical insurance for her stay here is that just for emergencies or does it cover other stuff? Thanks in advance.

Retirement visa/extension, the small print
TheLaughingMan replied to L0St's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Ok so if we have the 800k in a Thai bank account she would not have to leave the country to transfer her visa exempt to a non O using an agent? The problem Ive been having is opening a bank account at all with no work permit. How do they expect us to put the money in a Thai bank account when they dont let us open a Thai bank account lol, ok ok I do know I can use an agent to open an account which is what I'll have to do I guess I just find it amusing the weird circle of non functionality this whole process is. -
Retirement visa/extension, the small print
TheLaughingMan replied to L0St's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Ok I have a bit of a weird situation so any advice is greatly appreciated, my family member is going into a nursing home here in Bangkok, she will obviously need a retirement visa, but the thought of a little old lady with dementia doing visa runs or going to immigration repeatedly is ludicrous, so Im guessing an agent is the best route to go? Is there a legal way to use an agent to turn her visa exempt into the correct visa for retirement and doing the entire process while shes in the nursing home? We do have power of attourney but no idea if that is even recognised or necessary here. -
Saw the old thread that started almost 20 years ago and hasnt been updated in over 10 years. Please dont move this to the medical forum, Im not asking for medical information. Im asking if anyone has recent experiences with Nursing homes in Thailand. Any good or bad experience? Thanks

ok so my family all got the cheaper ($50 CAD) rapid antigen test with results in 20 minutes at Shoppers drug mart. This test was administered by someone in a tiny room at Shoppers and they gave us only a paper (no email) with the negative result and other info on it and that was all we had to show to the check in people at airport and it was fine, no need to spend $150 on a pcr test. We got the test 48 hours before flying but they gave us results on premises within 20 minutes.

Ok so... I read a lot of the info on here about phone plans and what I should get, went to an AIS shop and he just offered me "The One Sim" for 200 baht a month. Now Im a tourist so figured maybe this was my only option, I asked if they had any more expensive plans lol and he said no. The One sim he said was 15mbps unlimitted, free calls at 15 minutes each call, no sms and just top it up at 200 baht each month. Going to the website, it looks way more complicated than what he told me, also the tourist sim seemed way more expensive and different but that wasnt an option for me. Just a little confused. I cant receive sms or I just cant send sms? Am I going to be charged for internet use over 2gb or is it really unlimitted like he said? Thankyou to anyone that can shed some light.

Well just because its a pcr test doesnt mean its the pcr test they approve lol. I know Brazil did not approve the saliva test even though its a PCR test. At this point Im trying to convince my mother that the rapid antigen (pro atk) test where they just swab the start of your nostril will not in fact kill her.

I was about to buy an expensive phone mount for my motorcylce Im buying next week in Thailand only to remember that when I lived there the phone under the hot sun would overheat and shut down so using a phone on a mount for gps in a sunny day was absolutely useless, is there any way around this? lol like does anyone know of a product that wont let my phone overheat? Im guessing no but thought Id ask

From what Ive gathered searching online, Pro-Atk just means not using a test kit yourself but it being administered by some form of professional? And I assume that comes with an email detailing the results which the authorities will then check to be allowed in Thailand? This is for unvaxxed people. Or is there really a certain level of antigen test that needs to be done to be legitimate? Pro-Atk is not a word anyone else uses and can only be found on websites explaining Thai requirements, took me a while to see a page actually explaining pro-atk means not using a home kit by yourself so Im hoping that is correct.

Big Bike parking at malls, CC requirement
TheLaughingMan replied to TheLaughingMan's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Id be interested to know where they require 800cc, has anyone else seen that and remember where it is? -
Hey I remember back in the day there was a special big bike parking section at a lot of malls, and they had a CC requirement, like only bikes above 600CC could park there or something like that. What is the highest requirement youve seen and where?
