  1. For the occupation of teacher in Basic Education, the Provisional Teacher Permit issued by The Teachers' Council of Thailand is a requirement to get an extension of the permission of temporary stay according to the Reasons of Necessity 2.6 and 2.7 of Order 305/2551.

It has been reported that many Immigration Offices nationwide enforce the rule that an extension of the permission of temporary stay will not exceed the expiration date of the Provisional Teaching Permit.

Indeed it does appear to be upto the regional office.

I recently obtained a work permit and permission to stay extension.

My waiver was only valid for another month, but my extensions were permitted until the end of the contract (April 2014)

  2. having put on 9 kilo's over the festive period its time to do some serious dietingwhistling.gif that was till i came across some fatboy pork sausage's in makro, produced by asian west fine foods, will i be buying anymore you bet best i have tasted.next will be their cumberland.

Problem with them is that they have usually been in the freezer along time. Also here, in lower Issan, the local suppliers are cheaper, better and more reliable.

  3. It would appear that the OP is still on a Non Imm entry. He should just be able to go to his local Immigration office with the correct documents and obtain an extension.

A few times in the past the documents from school have been late. I simply obtained a 60 day extension based on marraige. When that 60 days is near expiry and the school documents have been finalised I have gone back to the same immigration office and obtained an extension based on employment.

  4. Until four months ago I only used AIS GRPS in my village. TOT informed me that their are no more lines available but they suggested I should use Fiber Optic which would cost me 3500 Baht per month. In addition they wanted me to pay for 700 meters cable which would have cost me another 30,000 Baht.

I looked for alternatives and ended up with Truemove-H. I hired a company to install a 12 meter Antenna, an AT&T aircard with a port for an external antenna, a TP Link 3G Wireless router and a Postpaid subscription for 1799 Baht per month (10gb).

I have connected an iMac, iPad, an Android TV box and a MacBook and have most of the time 5-7mbit throughout the month.

My internet problems have been finally resolved after 18 months surfing on GPRS

You are paying alot of money there. I get 5gb of Truemove H for 489 q month.

Did you signed up for some kind of special offer with True?

10 GB is here 1799 Baht. I signed up for both Prepaid and Postpaid and got the same subscription rate/price. I am sure that I pay 899 Baht for 5GB but I could be wrong by a couple of Baht.

No special offer. The first month was 899baht. Subsequent months have been 489 + vat. Mind you I haven't had a bill for over 3 months now, but still have the service.

I don't have an aerial. I just have a sim card and a router. I managed to get hold of a Wifi router with a sim socket in the back.

I have just received my bill, first since 10th October. I am now being charged the full 899 a month for 5gb. THe 480 a month was a 5 month promotion. True di mention that they now offer 7gb for 999.

  7. Khao Panom Rung and Prasart Hin Muang Tam, old Khmer Temple ruins, in Buriram are well worth a look.

Depending on what time of year you wanted to come there are also many festivals and parades in Issan that are very enjoyable.

  8. I wai my in laws when I meet them. I am married to their daughter and I have their respect as a son in law. I get a smile and a wai back.

I wai teachers in schools. I wai immigration. I wai Thai friends when I see them. I wai people that I have just been introduced to. I get wai(ed) back

Most importantly I will wai back someone who wais me first.

Wai(ing) is not cool. It is polite.

I will tell you one thing too. If I did not do what I do then my wife would have something to say about it.

I think to have to cut and paste something to prove a point shows ignorance.

I am not a newbie by the way.

  9. Nobody made the assumption that the Cambodian passports were for 90 day reports.

Immigration department rules state that 90 day posts can be made by post or by another person. Cardholder was only pointing that out as you had previously asked a question on the lines of why do farangs have to do it in person.

The last time I asked Khorat about it they said you could do it by post. Maybe because I asked them politely and waied them!!!!!They did, however, no recommend it as the postal system had often let people down, leading to a 200 baht per day fine.

Work permits are not issued by Immigration. They are issued by the Labour Department.

And once again Sinbin you show yourself to be somewhat contradictable.

  10. As someone mentioned before you have been ranting about Khorat Immigration for ages.

I will always wai a Thai official when I see them. Maybe you think I am a fool for doing this, maybe not. I get my stuff done well and promptly. You appear not to. So I guess it is someone else who is the fool and not me.

Firstly, please show where "someone mentioned before you have been ranting about Khorat Immigration for ages".

If you wai a Thai official, or not, that provides a service then that is entirely up to you. Does it get you better service ? I doubt it very much. More likely to be sniggered at by the Thais that know the hows and when to wai. In fact I never once mentioned that I got bad service from Korat office. I only mentioned that they've change the extension procedure from last year.

A poster mentioned having read your posts on a previous thread. There were many rants involved. Instead of going through the whole sorry story again I just pointed that out.

I already mentioned that all of my stuff gets done well and promptly. I am a fully aware of how to wai people of different standings, having lived and worked here for many years. Seems to me you feel that you are well above everybody that there is no need for you to do it. Whenever I greet the officials in Khorat Immigration I have always received the same greeting back with a big smile. A wai is a simple, polite way to greet people and to say thank you. Politeness cost nothing in any language.

You never mentioned that you got a bad service from Khorat Immigration. LOL. That is funny.

Your second reply is amazing. You now think that you are paying Immigration for a service. NO you are not. You are paying for an extension of stay. Indeed it is their job to do this, if everything is in orderHowever, anybody in any service in any country are there to serve you. They are not your servants. Respect others and they will respect you.

  11. Extention of 'O' Visa based on marriage at Korat Immigration. Compared to last year they've changed the paperwork required. Last year it was one photograph with the wife and kids, and was the same the year before. This year it's 3 photos. One of me, the wife, and kids in a group shot. One of the outside of your house and one of the inside. Three total. How do they verify that the ones of my house are of my house ? Why do they change the conditions, without publishing the fact beforehand ?

Last year it was two photocopies of the normal things, Tabien Baan, Marriage certificate etc etc. This year, one photocopy of everything. Last year a hand drawn map of the location of your house. Not needed this year.

What I'd like to know is, why we (farang) have to turn up in person to get our visa's and do our 90 day report ? A woman was at the counter, adjacent to where I was processed, with a large cardboard box full of Cambodian passports. They were then processed and stamped. Is it one rule for us...................................................?

I guess this is Cardholders point.

As for the Cambodian passports. It is more that likely that they were getting extensions for work. In certain circumstances employers can go to obtain employees visas on the applicants behalf, so long as all forms are signed by the applicant beforehand.

As it is only you that is married to your wife then you have to go.

As someone mentioned before you have been ranting about Khorat Immigration for ages. They probably know about this.

They are Thai so why not show a bit of Thainess to them. I will always wai a Thai official when I see them. Maybe you think I am a fool for doing this, maybe not. I get my stuff done well and promptly. You appear not to. So I guess it is someone else who is the fool and not me.

  12. I once had a case where I was working for a small private school that simply closed down over night with no notice to either the teachers, students or parents. I went to the Labour Office and explained that I could not get a letter from the school.

They gave me a form to fill out. At the bottom a signature was required from a school official. They said that I could sign it myself as an employee of that school.

Go to the Labour Office and talk to them. They are usually pretty good with teachers having problems when trying to do things the correct way.

  13. Prighas....

Were you on extension of stay or a visa?

If you were on an extension based on work and your work permit was cancelled and the Labour Department gave you a receipt you should have gone to Immigration too.

You were lucky. You were on overstay and nobody noticed.

I just checked and work permits are issued by province. They cannot be transferred to another province.

  14. Maybe not..............

UK 'Is Worst Place To Live In Europe'

The UK is now officially the worst place to live in Europe, with people getting a "raw deal" on quality of life and high cost of living, a new study has revealed.

Britons are faced with some of the highest retail prices in Europe

Comparison website uSwitch said that things were getting so bad that one in 10 people in this country were considering emigrating.

France and Spain came out on top of uSwitch's Quality of Life Index, with the UK bottom of a 10-country league table.

The index covers working hours, VAT, holidays, spending on health and education - and hours of sunshine.

The UK also came bottom of another table based on the cost of energy, petrol, food, alcohol, cigarettes and life expectancy.

Food and diesel prices are the highest in Europe, while unleaded petrol, alcohol and cigarettes all cost more than the European average, said the report.

People in the UK now have the lowest holiday entitlement in Europe as well as having one of the highest retirement ages, the study found.

A survey of over 2,000 adults found their biggest concern was "broken society", as well as the cost of living, crime and violence.

Spain is high on the list for quality of life - but Brits can't afford to holiday there

Some 5% said they were happy with the UK, with over one in 10 "seriously considering" emigrating.

France topped the index for the third year in a row, despite the average household annual net income being £7,000 below that of the UK.

Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said: "Last year at least our neighbours in Ireland were worse off, now we can't even console ourselves with that.

"We are now officially at the bottom of the pile."
