  1. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the "bar girl branding"; the standard across the lower back tattoo that lots of bar girls seem to have. It's nice of so many girls to have made the effort to give you something to look at when having fun, but it really is a form of "branding". They might be better off just getting an "I'm a hooker flag" that they can carry around, but still be able to get away from in the future! laugh.gif

Do you believe any girl with a tattoo at the lower part of their back (nicknamed a tramp stamp by the way!) is a 'hooker' (genuine question and not asked in an aggressive manner)?

Interested to hear the reply too. I know quite a few Thai females with a tattoo on their lower back and none of them have ever been a bar girl so it's a shame that they'll be thought of as such by a lot of narrow-minded farangs! I saw a similar thread to this a couple of years ago so asked them about it and they said it was a popular place to have one as a lot of Thai superstars were having them. They were studying at university at the time and said a lot of girls were having them done and that they, nor Thai friends/family, never associated a tattoo on their lower back with being a bar-girl, obviously they can tell the difference while a farang can't. But people have always stereotyped and always will, whether it's about someone with a shaved head, a tattoo, a black person, a gay person, a muslim....

The only reason I was asking the question was to see if Paulme was under the impression my wife was a 'hooker' because she also has a tattoo at the lower of her back...And she's from England!

  3. Yes, it's actually happening the wife and I and little dog plus two cats will be moving down to Phuket at the end of October and I'm looking for recommendations on where to live but first I'll give you a rough idea of what we're looking for...

I'll be based in Phuket Town (City) for work purposes so really looking on the east coast from Chalong ( Rawai/Nai Harn look just a little too far) through to just a little farther north of Phuket Town.

It would have to be a house with a garden (no condo or townhouse) fully furnished or just about with at least two bedrooms.

Close to a little evening entertainment i.e. sports bar (for English football), Thai & western restaurants, Thai food market.

A long-term let of one year is what we'd be aiming at to start and we've a budget of around 20k per month.

I've searched online at about every website for Phuket but I need some more ideas of where I can look locally like names of Moo Baans in the area where there might be just signs on gates 'FOR RENT'.

    Any ideas are welcome

    Thanks

Good I'm glad you can spell and know the difference between American and British English. Yes, WE from the UK don't carry guns you're quite correct and I never mentioned it would be a 'happy' occasion.

Why do you feel the need to correct my use of verbs, retired English teacher or just retired?

While we're on the subject of correcting things just something I thought I should point out before heading to bed.

Try to work it out ,it's quite simple (you may want to consider moving your comma)

Self defence ( with a 'c') means stopping (you may want to consider moving the bracket next to the 'with' instead of a space away)

( it's old Anglo Saxon I think) (again with that bracket thing)

jap.gif Speak to you tomorrow I'm sure, goodnight msg362.

  5. Tony Martin. He shot someone who had repeatedly birgled his house in the back.

Exactly. He shot him in the back. The British law is that you can use reasonable force and, thankfully, shooting people in the back is not considered to be reasonable force.

Shot him in the back, shot him in the chest, what's the difference? Although this was not the ideal outcome the 'kid' was trespassing, breaking and entering, committing burglary and might have knocked the old farmer on the head if he hadn't have come out with a gun!

The back means he's running away and not a threat, the front means he might be

Self defence ( with a 'c') means stopping someone assaulting you, not shooting someone trying to escape. Trespass in the UK is not considered a capital crime. We are reasonably civilised!

Not sure what the 'with a c' comment is about but anyway...It is not 'simple' if someone came into your house to burglarise it and you caught them in the act and they turned their back, you'd automatically think they were running away? Maybe they were looking for a weapon to try and strike you with! So no the back does not confirm or deny he was running away. I'd like to think I'd shoot a little git who tried to rob my home.

  7. Does anyone know the E-Mail address to the Royal Thai Consulate in Birmingham? And does anyone have any experience of getting an Non O from there?

I have previously got it from Hull, and I don't meet the new regulations. I'm a 38 yrs old Swedish citizen.

Birmingham will issue a non-o visa if you're married to a Thai, retired etc.. the usual rules apply regarding money in the bank, marriage certificate blah blah blah. I'll PM you the other bit...

  8. I added this to the 'news' story, let see if it's approved by the DM moderators...

I'd be inclined to think that Jennifer McDonald has never even made the trip to Thailand let alone Koh Samui. 'Green Mango Square' where exactly is that then?

'Folk in England shirts litter the beach front bars,' spending sometime working at a beach front bar in Chaweng I saw more Aussie tops and maybe a few England tops during the World Cup.

Also, what is with the, 'Just steer clear of the Elephant and Castle pub.' comment all about? Have been there a few times in the past, maybe 10 trips in two years and can't really fault it!

  9. Let me know how you get on with Birmingham as I'm back in UK next week and was planning a trip up to Hull until I read about their change in rules. It's a pain the aris as there are some people under 50 who just want to sit back and enjoy Thailand and don't need to work! What are we meant to do, live in Spain, not bloody likely!

  10. I can't believe no one else has visited this establishment yet and commented on the place (via this forum), but I am sure there was more than me and a few friends there at the time!

  11. There are jobs available in the hospitality trade for foreigners. Another option would be to do freelance writing for companies based in your home country (article writing, link building etc..), obviously via the internet. It doesn't take much know-how for basic writing opportunities, the money may be low in the west, but it can travel a long way out here in the east.

  12. why no capital letters? Why not paragraph.

I originally didnt get the joke, anger or even surprise of this story......it just read on like reading some mundane daily chores.

The thread is not about grammar, but as you are on that subject check your grammar out.

why no capital letters? - Missing capital.

I originally didnt get the joke, - didn't as in did not.

Let us hope that the poor chap returned is soon claimed.
