Of course 7/11 is still giving out bags. Do you really think they would do anything that might cost them money?

Thailand is a lawless country. Everybody does whatever they want. Bangkok streets become a race track at night. Tuk tuks, motorcycles, trucks and busses with loud exhausts terrorize the city and keep millions of people awake. Even though noise population is the nr 1 complain nobody does anything about it. Even government busses have loud exhausts.
Law enforcement is a joke and it is only getting worse.

TG should just live and let live. Unfortunate that he is not around anymore. Always liked his knowledge and contributions to TV.

While I agree wholeheartedly that anyone who uses a hospital should pay their bill, I think a major point is being overlooked. Tourism generates billions of dollars for the economy. Tourism is also by all accounts other than TAT in sharp decline. That number may well reduce further if every tourist has to pay out for an insurance policy, which may or may not cover problems they encounter. Maybe they should weigh the 448 million baht against the potential tens of billions they might lose.
There is so much wrong with your logic.
So you are saying: Thailand makes a lot of money from tourism therefor they shouldn't complain when people don't pay their hospital bills. If you let them pay their bills they might not come to Thailand anymore.
I honestly expected more common sense from a moderator. Unbelievable.

Accept that this is how things are done in Thailand or leave if you can. NOTHING is going to change, nobody cares or knows what safety means.

Yep they love to over-inflate. Changed tires on my VanVan last week and told the shop at least 3 times that the correct pressure was 18 psi front and back. Left the shop and immediately knew they scewed up. Front had 28 and rear 32. Idiots

Why is someone a "bad guy" for renting through Airbnb?
I think the larger issue is that the innocent renter AND the owner is being slugged for the fine, whereas in the past it was never that way.
Also, i commented way back, that all this hoo-haa is yet another example of the
authorities "subtle" means of going about certain things they wish to accomplish.
We have already read reports of Thai owners deciding that its to much hassle to rent to foriegners.
So next i suppose we will be hearing reports of extra "TM30 hassle surcharges" being applied on top of our rentals.
You really didn't get what I was trying to say? Again, if you are a "bad Guy" and want to avoid doing any reporting you can rent through Airbnb. Right? As long as there are many possibilities not to do any reporting, TM30 is useless.

Thousands of Airbnb rooms in Bangkok. Mostly owned by Chinese who are not in Thailand. Rooms are rented out by so called "agents" who advertise them online. Do you really think the owners do the TM30 reporting?? So there will always be a large group of house owners who never do any reporting.
Good guys do the reporting, bad guys rent through Airbnb. Therefor TM30 reporting is only a hassle for good guys and won't be effective in catching criminals.

You need a Thai person to help you search Thai websites. This is a very popular bike here (to modify into cafe racers, scramblers etc).. Loads of parts available.

Where to begin. The bikes are not the problem. The problems are riders who have no sense of safety. Getting a driving license is a joke. Law enforcement is joke. The roads are a joke. It will never change. This is Thailand. This is how things are done here. You have to take care of yourself. Protect yourself and hope that no idiot will kill you. Nothing is going the change... ever. Accept the risks associated with living here or move on to another place. No I am not bashing Thailand but like I stated above, this is Thailand.

Yes, a Ninja 650 or er6-n is great value for money. Rock solid, comfy, very decent power and cheap parts. I would try to find with with no more than 20-30.000ks and with ABS. Had a new er6-n back in 2011 I believe it was and I loved it.

Please do not buy a Royal Enfield. These bikes are so rubbish that it's already insane. They start shaking at 80 km/h and there's quite a lot wrong with these bikes.
I'd ridden a Bullet 250 in India for a few months and I was impressed. Please watch the movie and it's an Indian who tells you what's wrong...!

This is tricky and dangerous. You can't expect a bike to handle well if you drastically change its geometry. I would sell it and buy a model that "fits" out of the box.

It's a good price for a good bike, the only issue is Thailand seems to be fairly light on Kawasaki dealers and service centres, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha are very well catered for, however.
I don't know about the whole of Thailand but In BKK there are currently 5 Kawasaki dealerships.
Note that Kawas are sold by Mobius and Real. NOT by Kawasaki themselves (anymore).
I am talking about big bikes. This W175 is sold by many small local shops too I believe.

Be ready for people to say it is overpriced, and you can buy this and that which is much better...
I don't have any experience with this bike but I have a Suzuki VanVan 125 since 2015. People told me I was crazy to spend 105,000 on a 125cc bike. I have done 12,000 happy km's with zero issues. I just love it. Full of character and a supper comfy seat and riding position. I can't imaging myself riding something else in BKK. Large wheels are perfect in dealing with poor quality roads.
Only reason I wouldn't buy a bike like a W175 is because of its size. It feels a bit small when I sat on it. And the seat was too narrow. The VanVan feels like a fairly large bike but it's very light and nimble. Yes it is not fast, but more than fast enough in the city.
btw, I loooove air cooled engines

Concur, re S/H prices, some absolute bargains out there at the moment.
Correct. Absolute bargains out there. Just came from Red Baron in BKK. Bikes with 2000km for only 65% of new price. You would be crazy to buy a new bike nowadays. I think they have like 100 used bikes in their showroom. Amazing deals. I recommend everybody who is looking for a bike to give them a visit.

Sales are declining rapidly. Much more competition the last couple of years. Big big market is getting a bit saturated i guess. There are A LOT of second hand bikes for sale now.
"Ducati overall, down 16.1% last year, third lost in a row, selling less than one/third of 2015, despite the local plant"
