  1. Every airport should be on the look out for him now and that private plane seized.

Thaksins days on the run are numbered :D

Yep, sure they are. Don't you worry, the first airport he lands at, he'll be arrested immediately and his airplane seized. Then they will deport him to Thailand straight away. No matter what country it is. Sure, of course. Yep. This arrest warrant just sealed the deal. No worries there, buddy.

    :)

Yep ! your avatar says it all about you !

  2. Ha... another patsy.

I wonder how many of the speakers will escape arrest or just written off into the "cannot be found" category.

I have mixed feelings about the coming punishment for this guy and as long as what he receives what others doing the same receive then ok. But if a double standard applies, then regardless of his nationality, people should be screaming unfair.

    TheWalkingMan

He'll probably get rewarded with a top government job as that what happened to the idiot who stood nightly on the Yellow shirt stage at the airport take over :)

What a wan** another know-it-all Australia representing the "western values".

Oh yeah Australia is an egalitarian society.. as long as you are white, narrow minded and a racist.

Australia is the only country to make an international incident over one of their trashy tourists stealing a bar mat.

Looks like another non-aussie with an inferiority complex

  4. Probably a descendant from a penal-colony criminal! :D:D

I think they all are. <<snip>>

    :):D

Someone had to say it sooner or later.

Of course nearly every Aussie I've met says his ancestors were warders not prisoners. :D

So what about the twenty million who come from migrant stock, have you any idea how stupid you are sounding with your ignorance

  5. :) som nom na. I think if he gets 2 years at the Bangkok Hilton, maybe he will think twice next time. Change your shirt to yellow..

Has his embassy not tried to help him with his missing passport and lack of funds? Or his family? Or has he worn out his welcome of everyone? I understand terrorism charges are going to be filed against Taksin. I believe he will be returned to Thailand rather quickly then. No country wasts to harbor a terrorist.

You might be wrong about Thaksin, as i understand it, terrorism calls for the death penalty and no government will be willing to extradite a person to a country which has that kind of penalty. Maybe this could be yet another mistake of this bumbling government

  6. Because they can, back home is another story.

I think i must agree on this one.. because they can. This means that the repression at home works and there is no other way to do it. I mean people wont behave out of the goodness of their hearts.

Like i said when it was a victimless crime i would not care one bit. But a car or a motorbike is a murderweapon in the hands of a drunk driver.

I think it doesn't help when you see 90% of Thai's riding around pi**ed with bloodshot eyes, of course it makes tourists think it's ok. Also being able to give 'backhanders' to the corrupt police force doesn't help also.

A bit like the Crash Helmet thing ...................when in Rome do as the Romans do !

  7. Fi said
If you behave the same way you would with a Western woman (expect her to pay half the mortgage/rent, living cost etc.) you're unlikely to go wrong.

Plus, of course, making sure she comes from a similar background, similar age, you can communicate and understand each other etc. etc.

    SB says

My western wife didn't work (even though she had a degree), I paid for everything for 30 years, then gave her my house and most of my pension and savings (OK well maybe I didn't want to give it).

This time I'm doing it different, married someone 20 years younger with no education .............. great legs though!

It's always about money ....... but this time it's about VALUE FOR MONEY!

Find this v hard to believe. Western divorces mean EACH PARTY gets 50%. Why on earth would you agree to more??

Actually, I don't believe you did - you just prefer to tell people otherwise.

50/50................Dream on F1fan, it just does not work that way !

  8. Video is on the way, but we are experiencing technical difficulties.

Update: At least 20 security officers injured when confronted by red-shirt protesters at Huachiew Hospital; officers agree to retreat from hospital

Absolutely best news about Daeng being shot. The triade of terrorists (Thaksin, Daeng, Arisman) should be taken out to remove the extreme elements hijacking a perfectly good cause (rights for the poor etc etc).

My inlaws, themselves from a disadvantaged upcountry background were literally dancing in the living room about this news.

Great strategy, not sure if the government can keep up the pressure or if it's going to turn into a complete mess again.

Too bad that the reforms being made (agricultural aide, loan packages, education reforms) aren't making headlines.

With such disgusting attitudes as this, all i can say that Thailand has to be on the brink of civil war........what a pityful attitude. A man protesting for what he believes in and is coldly gunned down and some grub thinks it is ok., well i hope he gets his too.

  9. We can't claim him 100%, He states He is an Irish Australian, I hope He has His citizenship or Australia won't let Him back in me thinks.

The guy is obviously a fruit cake.

    Fruit cakes are people too...

Did the cheering red-cakes realize he was a fruit cake?

I think that the only difference between him and you Jingthing, is the fct that he has the guts or stupidity to stand up and say what he thinks , whereas you tend to hide in a forum where you can be heard but not seen.

  10. The bottom line here is what business has a foreigner getting actively involved in another countries politics.

    None whatsoever

Rwanda, S.A. Iraq, Ireland.....its all politics........you could say Poland 1939 was.....best foreigners stayed away then?....if a person feels passionatly about something they beliefe in, isnt it good they stand up and be counted.

You make a fair point for the vast majority of expat foreigners here who strongly OPPOSE the red shirt terrorist Thaksin-led insurgents.

How do you know that Jingthing ?............have you done an in depth study or this just "in your dreams". You really have no right whatsoever to speak on behalf of the majority of ex-pat foreigners. The fact that the 'vast majority' unlike you, stay neutral, does not mean that they support either one side or the other or in fact do not have their own private feelings. However as i have said, you have no right to speak for them. So it would be nice if you could keep your personal opinions just that and to yourself. Thank you !

  11. Latest from Andrews grandad !

He tells me that the name of the insurance company is "COVER MORE" do any of you aussies in here know of this company.

Indeed COVER-MORE are one of the biggest travel insurance companies in Australia. In fact they are Flight Centre (Australia) preferred/sole travel insurance provider, and give Flight Centre a 40% commission on their top policies.

Further found this on lonelyplanet/thorntree (source)

Any consultant worth their pinch of salt will try and sell you travel insurance. They will give you a multitude of travel disaster scenarios that will leave you trembling on the edge of your seat debating whether you should in fact travel at all, whilst at all times appearing genuinely concerned with your health and well-being during your up and coming holiday. Whilst it is true that travel insurance is an absolute necessity, and anyone who travels without it is a fool, their concern is motivated by money more so than any genuine concern for your health and well-being. You see, in an industry where commissions range between 5 and 10%, and in some cases zero, Flight Centre earns a staggering 40% commission from its one and only preferred travel insurance provider Covermore. To put this in perspective, a two week, nil excess policy for two adult to the United States costs $424. Covermore pays the consultant $169.60 commission on that policy. If a consultant tells you that he can knock 10% of the brochure price of the insurance, what he really means is that he is only making 30% of you. Always shop around when it comes to travel insurance. This is where you will save big money. On a final note with regards to travel insurance. Many credit card providers include some form of travel insurance as a benefit to their cardholders. It would be impracticable for me to mention these individually, except to say that should inquire with your relevant credit card provider when canvassing travel insurance options. But beware; every consultant is skillfully trained in every rebuttal as to why you should choose their travel insurance over that of your credit card providers. Why wouldn't they be at 40% commission?

Regarding the Credit Card Insurance. I always pay my airfare with my Commonwealth Platinum Credit Card, and get free travel insurance.

This is underwritten by ZURICH, and believe me its better than my travel agent (Flight Centres) can give me through Covermore. I advise anyone from Australia to think about this.

  12. "Australian govt advises against travel to Thailand" ............OMG ! what load of idiots.........If they cannot get it right, they need to keep their mouths shut !.........Thailand is not just Bangkok, and Bangkok is not just Thailand.

Down here on Samui, life goes on as normal without a 'sniff' of any trouble whatsoever, and i might add, that this seems to be the same for the most of Thailand except for the deep south of course.

When are these "burkes" from Burketown gonna learn about life outside of Canberra, they make me sick !

Some idiot sits in his office in Canberra, reading the local newspaper and thinking ooooooooo ! look how dangerous it is in Thailand, i think we had better warn everybodynot to go there. If it was not so serious it would be laughable.

A pissed off Aussie on Samui.

  13. There is no Thailand if the government can't disperse a mob of 6000 armed rebels occupying an important district of the capital. No, it is not a game. It is about the very existence of Thailand as a nation. This is civilization vs. anarchy. Would the red thugs be tolerated for weeks in your country? You say yes? I don't believe you.

Good Point Jingthing, how would this be handled in let's say Holland?

It would never be necessary in Holland- people are enfranchised, well-educated, they have removed the priviledges of title and inheritance, they receive sufficient pay for their work, have more than adequate health care and welfare provision and have plenty of Heineken.

I can say in the US they would simply have labeled the insurrection as terrorism and opened fire at the airport, the inner city and wherever. Anyone doubting this should not forget what happened on American campuses at an earlier time.

Too bloody right ............I remember my Korean war days , the yanks always were "trigger happy"

  14. Slightly off topic, but, whilst the Red Shirts have protested and shut down the business district and caused the deployment of the Army and Police, on mass, has anyone considered the cost, to the current Government, of "fighting this domestic battle?" The Red Shirts can live on a cup of boiled rice a day, and we all know Mr.T is "chipping in" a few baht for them, but, economically, it's possible, the Government will not be able to sustain the prolonged cost of Army, Police and emergency services deployment.

All of these personel have to be paid, fed, housed etc. The logistics for all of this is very costly to Thailand. To some degree, as far as the defence forces of Thailand are concerned, Thailand is at war. Wars cost a lot of money and they are in this one alone, not with any "richer" allied countries. Add to the cost of the defence force, the local Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance involvement, all staff at 24/7, and this mounts up to a HUGE bill, for the Government. The day may come when they can't afford to pay their Army, Police and other emergency services, plus, all the support staff for them.

Further compounding this cost is, which is on topic, the economic cost, in real terms, to the country. Not much money is "coming in." So, tourism, imports, exports etc etc are not generating their normal income. However, tourisms is the talk on TV and we know for a fact this is down.

The current Government must have a "cut off point" for funding all of this. After all, Thailand is not America, The UK or The EU.

I'm not sure The World Bank would be interested in loaning money to Thailand for this "project."

We all know the Red Shirts are "hitting" the Government, economically, but has anyone considered the economic cost of this "domestic war?" It's this cost that could bring down the Government, not the loss of tourism etc.

The Army, Police etc all have families and bills to pay. If you can't pay these people, there will have to be another coup.

I think the courts should rule to confiscate the red leaders bank accounts (after all they are wanted criminals) and divert the money to compensate shop owners who have lost millions, this will also hopefully help to stop the flow of cash transfers from Taksin :)

You mean 'like they did with the airport trrrorists' mmmmmmmmm i see!

  15. patpong is far away from prathunam, where the protesters are.

why soldiers have decided to park on this very street and close the night market is beyond me - there are many other roads and places where they can be positioned (if they really have to be on the streets and not in the barracks) without obstructing the public.

blaming the reds, instead of blaiming the army, is illogical

Hahahaha, where do you guys come from?

So if the REDS were NOT out breaking the law everyday you think the Army would be on the street still?

of course it's the RED's fault.. good lord man use some common sense.

Common sense tells me that if Abishit was not so stubborn by refusing an election asap., but clinging on to power like a fish fighting on the hook, all this could be avoided

If the PM Khun Abisit was not so hel_l bent on hanging on to power, and thought more of his country, he could end all this trauma to his nation by calling an election as soon as possible. The Redshirts would then have no option but to disband and go home.........END OF STORY !

  17. Story does sound suspect to be TROLLISH. Why would they just hack him without trying to demand anything first? I'm guessing some words were exchanged of the unkind Bogan variety.

Yes of course because they'd act in a logical way wouldn't they.

If your intent is to rob and kill why say anything anyway?

Are you suggesting he said something "boganish" to annoy the machete wielders???

Blame the foreigner first no matter the evidence.

According to what his grandfather tells me, they were demanding the motorbike, but he was refusing................does that make sense to a couple of numbskulls in here ?

As i have said in another place, his grandfather, a friend of 60 years has promised me that he will get the name of the insurance company for me. When it comes i will post it.

  18. Hi Bridge,

I'd just like to say thanks for your letter to the Australian Foreign Minister. I've taken the details and emailed him as well. Guess if more of us do this the more we can rock the boat.

So so sad I feel for his family, Wife and Unborn Child........ Andrew RIP

    Dear Minister Smith,

By now you should no doubt be well aware of the tragic death of Mr. Andrew Oake (An Australian Citizen) in Thailand.

Since the incident only came to light today on a local Thailand expat forum (thaivisa.com) it has had nearly 8000 views in a very few short hours of time. By tomorrow, I would expect number to double at the very least. You can follow the current forum at:

As an Australian citizen (and ex-police officer) I find it repugnant and reprehensible that the Australian Government has not taken a more proactive stance with regards to the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Oake. A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) spokeswoman said staff, "The cause of death is a matter for Thai authorities to determine," With respect Minister I find that response reprehensible. Do you honestly believe a fair, open and transparent investigation will take place into the death or Mr. Oake will take place? Of course it won’t.

I find it quite ironic that recent assault’s on Indians students in Australia were met with swift reaction by the Australia Government after condemnation by New Delhi, but incidents involving Australians abroad, in this case involving the death of an Australian citizen, receive such a mediocre response from the Australian Government.

Minister, I look forward to your prompt response, which I will advise now will be posted on the Thaivisa forum.

    Regards

Great letter.. But if I may suggest.. You should send copies to the Leader of the Opposition, and the "Shadow" Foreign Minister as well if you want to really put pressure on.

Sorry, I'm not an Aussie, so I can't participate. But in Canada the best way to get action by the government is to involve the opposition party and get them on your side.

    Best of Luck...

    CS

He came from Adelaide, South Australia, so maybe the SA State government or his local MP ought to get a copy of this letter to Smith.
