  1. Yesterday on Highway 12 north of Phetchabun my wife an I witnessed 4 military convoys of approximately 30 trucks (120 trucks) in each unit transporting women and children heading east. You could see some Red Cross observers with them and the solders that we saw in the back of the trucks had rifles not buttons.

Does anybody know the name of the Thai government official who inspected and approved the final reception arrangements for the Hmong victims when they arrive at their destination in Laos.

Surely no humane caring government would just pack them in trucks and ship them off, Hitler used to do that !

  2. The authorities indicated that 4,506 Hmong are be deported from the camp

Deportation of illegal aliens seems to be pretty common amongst most nations of the world.

The USA, for example, deports 1,200 illegal Mexicans every day.

Miguel.........wake up man. This is a completely different situation. Those Mexicans are purely in the USA for economic reasons. They have "Never" fought a war on America's behalf against the Mexican government.............they are purely there for the almighty dollar. When they are repatriated they just go back to their usual life, they will not be hunted down, tortured and raped by the Mexican authorities.

  3. DEPORTATION OF HMONGS

Laos assures safety of Hmong deportees

Vientiane - Communist Laos guaranteed the safety of some 4,000 Hmong refugees whom the Thai government began to forcefully deport across the border Monday, state media reports said.

Brigadier General Bouasieng Champaphanh, chairman of the Lao-Thai general border sub-committee, "assured the world of the returnees' safety," the state-owned Vientiane Times reported.

"The Lao government is ready to welcome back all the remaining illegal migrants and everything is in place for their return," Bouasieng said.

Thailand began to deport 4,000 Lao-Hmong from Huay Nam Khao camp in Phetchabun province on Monday, despite international appeals to halt the process.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the US government and the European Union have expressed concerns that the Hmong, an ethnic minority group that sided with the US military in their "secret war" against communism in Laos in the 1960s-70s, could be in danger if forced to return to their homeland.

"The concerns raised are only those created by subversive elements who seek to tarnish the Lao government's policy and guidance," Bouasieng said.

Thailand and Laos agreed to repatriate the refugees from the Huay Nam Khao camp and 158 other refugees from Nong Khai province by the end of the year, as a means of discouraging future Hmong migration to Thailand.

Tens of thousands of ethnic Hmong fled to Thailand after communist forces took power in Laos in 1975. Most of them sought resettlement in the US. The US government took a final batch of some 14,000 Hmong from Tham Krabok temple, Saraburi province, in 2003.

Since then, as many as 8,000 other Hmong fled to Thailand, where authorities classified them as "economic migrants" rather than refugees, and placed them in Huay Nam Khao camp, 280 kilometres north-east of Bangkok.

In 2008-09, some 3,173 Hmong from the camp "volunteered" to return to Laos, where the government claims they have been reunited with family members of given land to settle on by the government.

"There is nothing to worry about. All those who would be repatriated this week would receive similar assistance package to previous returnees," Bouasieng said. "Until now, no one has been jailed, killed or penalized in any way."

Vientiane has allowed foreign diplomats and journalists to visit the Hmong resettlement villages on several occasions, albeit with official supervision.

The Lao government, one of the world's last communist regimes, has not allowed the UNHCR to set up an office in Vientiane to monitor the resettlement process for the Hmong, who claim to be persecuted.

The UNHCR has classified the 158 Hmong in Nong Khai as "people of concern." It remains unclear whether the government will allow the UNHCR to resettle them once they have been deported back to Laos.

Can anyone explain, why on earth would the LAO govt want these people back for any other reason than to punish them ????

  4. What kind of land rights have you arranged from the property owner and is the building permit in your name?

The OP explained that in his post.

The OP explained neither. All he said is that the Chanote (land) will be is his Thai partners name and implied a German managed construction project. On that basis the OP cannot register the house in his name at the local Land Office. At a minimum he would need a 30 year lease on the land from his Thai partner plus a building permit in his name and/or sales agreement from the contractor, both registered at the local Land Office.

Rat on you lot of unbelievers................i have done my research and am happy with it..........Goodnight

  5. Along with my Thai partner (not married) i am buying a property on Samui. Its on a private estate ( no rubbish , no thro traffic, no dogs singing all night) we are getting a 2 b/r. a/c. house (probably extent) with pool & sala. Building to our spec by company's archetect under German construction manager and German electrial supervisor. Land cost one million and in partners name so will be chanote.600 sq mtrs., all infrastructure included with concrete road. House in my name. 3 years interest free loan.

  6. I freely admit to being old, stupid and wrong, but I can't find any thread detailing the differences pros/cons between a o and oa visa. Could one of you smarter/younger and more right people post a link please.

As far as I can see OA and O .... same cost, same age

OA done in person at Embassy, O done by post at any Consulate (all outside Thailand)

OA requires proof of funding, police report, medical, O doesn't

OA 90 day reporting done at local Thai Immigration, O 'reporting' done at border

OA lasts 12 months, O lasts 15 months

As far as I can see the OA is a complete dead loss with a load of added hassle.

I'm quite happy to visit a border every 90 days.

    Am I wrong? (again)

Yeh! PJ, that suits me too................dead easy, no bloody hassles, and its only a short, reasonably cheap flight from Samui to KL.

  7. The requirement is either 800,000 Baht in an account or 65,000 Baht per month income, not both. I'll let others comment on the types of account immigration finds acceptable. But, I would not expect them to accept that account.

Also, are you applying for an"O-A" visa in your home country, or would you be applying in Thailand for a one year "Extension of Stay" based on retirement?

I applied and recieved a no immigrant O, just had to show 800,000 in my aussie bank, nothing about transfer to thai bank.

  8. Easy to get bank accounts but there is regular talk of some bank branches wanting to see non immigrant visas and others wanting to see a residence certificate from the local police or more likely immigration office. I always have these but if you are going only on a 30 day entry stamp then you might have problems at some branches.

Only 2 days ago, i walked into a Siam Commercial Bank branch and walked out 10 mins later with a new passbook. Just had to answer a few simple questions present my passport (non immigrant O visa) easy!!!

  9. The suspects are British national Ahoor Rambarak Fath, 45, and Swedish woman Masobukwe Moiseng Patricia Segage, 45

Yeah they really sound like British and Swedish names, more likely Middle eastern and African

These days they could easily be British. Some parts of the UK even have Sharia (civil) law now. Not sure what John Nettles would make of it all....

The only thing left that is "British" in the way you remember it is the weather.

British weather is now referred to as Muslim Weather; 10% sunni, 90% shiite.

ha ha ha ha ............Mick, coming from Brisbane, i can appreciate that one........... lololol

I spent 3 months in sunny Dorset last summer, only saw one w/e of sunshine, just been back for 2 weeks and it rained all the time.

No wonder Los is full of Brits! can you blame them ?

  10. The suspects are British national Ahoor Rambarak Fath, 45, and Swedish woman Masobukwe Moiseng Patricia Segage, 45

Yeah they really sound like British and Swedish names, more likely Middle eastern and African I would also be checking the validity of their ID docs. If they are legitimate passport holders shame on those countries for having such lax immigration laws! Britain is a far bigger haven for criminals than Thailand!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes sounds that they would come from arab countries and Africa country of some sort. Whatever citizenship they are holding. I would never call them British and Swedish.....

    Glegolo

Oh dear. The Swedish Miss World 2000 representative was a certain Ida Sofia Manneh and their representative in the Miss Universe 2002 pageant was a Malou Hansson. They were both born in Sweden and you can google their images.

There's just no allowing for narrow mindedness these days eh? There's hope though; I think the BNP are still recruiting.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Tonto Goldberg MacPherson

    Well Tonto ole fella !

I can assure you, its a growing feeling eminating from many Europeans and Brits, who have seen their standard of life, culture and religion

seriously downgraded by the economic immigrants, who just appear to want to take and give very little in return.

So tell me, why should'nt anybody have the right to voice their opinions on these matters rather than be told to "shut up" by busy bodies.

  11. You live in Thailand and a bit of a belly is no big deal with the girls, actually read somewhere it was a sign of wealth or something . if its just a pot belly you will survive . Obese is a different story. I drink sang mig light and its done nothing for my belly but love the taste

No WAY man, woman need an sixpack :D ....

Just joking :) , but yeah beer makes you fat, because you drink large quantities of the stuff. But drinking the spirits, won't make you much fat, but kills the organs way quicker than beer ( only if you take straight shots, not mixing )

Don't agree with the one regarding spirits, i am 74 (look and feel 60-) and have been drinking West Indian Rum since i was 21 yrs old and in the Royal Navy where we used to get a tot every day.

  12. Find something on the net, Yes they have need to go to a clinic, consult with a doctor and they will write a reciepe to get the drug.

Talking about "The nana clinic" near Khao San Road and they have English speaking doctors as well, give them a call firts.

    Good luck

Thanks, but as a septagenarian dont think i really need it, but have concerns for a friend who seems to be making a pig' of himself, just thought it would be handy to have the info up front !.............lololololol

  13. Multi entry..........4x90 days.

    Entered 22nd oct

    Left for UK 27th oct

    Returned 17th nov.

Does my first 90 day visa run start from 22nd oct., then second period from 17th nov ( after only a couple of weeks)

If so, i have lost almost most of the first 90 days to visit my sick mother .

    Thank you for any info

Most likely you have a Non-O with Multi entries which means you can go and in and out of Thailand as many times as you like during the 1 year period (validity) of your Non-O-Visa. Each time you enter Thailand you will get 90 days - this means if you leave and re-enter on the last day of your visa you will get another 90 days.

So the answer is NO - you didn't loose anything.

Many thanks to all, i just remember the lady at Brisbane Consul saying "you can stay in Thailand 15mths"

    once again , thanks!

My problem was that on reading other Q & A's i noticed one on Non Imm O where the answer was that he had to present his marriage cert.........think that 'threw' me.

    Hoo Roo......Dave.

  14. I am not sure how much bite this will have but I agree that people should be held responsible for their actions. This being the case shouldn't this also extend to the Red Shirts and anyone else that causes civil dissobedience that leads to lost revenues? If fair is fair then Takki should be on the hook for inciting civil dissobedience as well.....burn em all !!!!

C'mon, why dont you just come clean and admit you supported the Yellow blockage of the airport

  15. I hope Thai Airways wins too.

However, Thai Airways was not the only affected airline. As well Suvarnabhumi Airport could not close itself unless it was the decision of the Director in charge. What is pretty interesting is that the Cargo Department is 2 kms away from the Passenger Terminals but it was ordered closed too.

I think it should be either the Airport Authority or Suvarnabhumi Airport that should have sued PAD for the damages done. There have been very few words from Suvarnabhumi Airport Director about it since then.

Partly "RUBBISH to that" Thai Air just have to look after their own business, what the rest do is up to them !
