  1. She was "not allowed" to have custody of the children by whom? Does the husband have legal full custody? As the children's mother, unless there has been a court order denying her parental rights and awarding them to someone else, she has a full right to both have the children with her and participate in all medical decisions for them. Indeed, if she was not legally married to the father, then he may not have any legal right to the children at all in which case she alone can legally give consent to a medical procedure.

A local doctor or hospital is not going to know the situation, though, and if the grandmother or father brings the kids in would have no reason to doubt that they have parental rights. So all this could happen before the mother has had time to take legal steps. In addition, the children might be taken out of country into Malaysia and thus out of the jurisdiction of Thai courts...and into a place where the fact that the biological father is Muslim would probably render the children Muslim in the court's eyes and thus subject to Islamic family law.

I therefore suggest -- again assuming the mother has not been legally denied custody of the children -- that the first step be to get them physically in her charge and somewhere that the father's family get can't hold of them. Through whatever ruse is most likely to work...take them out for a day and just don't bring them back, pick them up at school or whatever. Do not do this if there has in fact been a custody ruling against the mother, because in that case it would constitute kidnapping. But assuming she is the biological mother and there has never been a legal ruling that took away or limited her rights as parent, there is no crime in her taking her own children.

Do that first, then immediately contact the Dept of Child Welfare (not sure the Thai name for this) And, if you can possibly afford it, also consult a lawyer specializing in family law. I am moving this to the family forum where there are more likely to be folks who can tell you the exact name and contact info o f the relevant government agency and also recommend such a lawyer.

If she has been denied custody by a Thai court, or a joint custody been decreed that legally bars her from taking the children anywhere without the father's consent, then just follow the paragraph above, But if as I suspect there has not been any court ruling on this, do immediately get the children away from the grandmother and somewhere that family can't easily locate them, then initiate legal action.

NO, there has been no legal action whatsoever.

The father gained custody personaly by showing her his handgun, telling her that if she did not do as he says he will shoot the children in front of her before shooting her. He is a violent man whom she fears................ would you risk your childrens life, knowing that he means what he says and could easily disappear over the border into Malaysia.

By the way, she is quite intelligent, with a uni degree and has her own business.

We have no real idea to what extent he intends the female circumcision so it could be just the "simple" pricking as previously mentioned. However in my opinion its still unnecessary mutilation.

The mother now refuses to confer with me further as she says that he will find out and could loose his temper.

  2. Oh well....

If i had my bluetooth thingy with me i could upload some 25 pics and a good 2 hours of video clips showing exactly the opposite..... my guess, 99.75% of the reds are indeed peaceful people, just a tiny fraction wants violence to occur - no different from the yellows there, it was precisely the same.

I went to their rally site at Rajprasong twice for the sole purpose of taking pictures, they even let me ride my motorbike right to the front of the stage, nobody in the crowd appeared angry or violent in any way, not even their security guys.

If it wasn't for their stupid leaders who are paid and commanded by Thaksin they would be just a friendly crowd of people, from my talks with some of them i know that a good many have no idea what exactly they are actually protesting for but all of them hope that whatever it is will make their life better.

I personally just can't stand the fact that this crowd of people is being mis-used by a few nutcases who do it for the money and their "dear leader" who is abroad and too scared to come back here in person.

I hope it will be over soon, that the ordinary protesters go back home, their leaders will rot in jail and Abhisit can finally get to do what a PM is supposed to do - run the country and start tackling the issues of those protesters, i am sure he would help them if given a chance.

    Best regards.....

    Thanh

    (edit: typo)

It looks to me as though you are "pushing the line" that the majority of these Redshirts are just plain stupid uneducated ignorants, being led by a small bunch of Thaksin supporters. I do not believe this . I do believe that they are ordinary people 'there but for the grace of god go i' who have had enough of being manipulated and used by the rich minority and just want a fair deal regardless of Khun Thaksin even though he was the most popular and considerate PM that they have ever had.

  3. Don't know the context of the photo(s) - hard to say what provoked it or it was unprovoked.

You are dead right Brit...............maybe those pics show redshirt struggling for his own saftey after being attached. Pics dont always show the truth or what one wants them to show.

I have just come up from Samui, and reading the press etc., i had the idea that all of Bangkok was against the Reds. However last night on Sukumvit i witnessed small convoys of Redshirts passing by with bystanders actually clapping and waving and there was certainly no danger whatsoever towards farangs.

Perhaps we are being fed anti Red propaganda ?

  4. I am a christian ( not practising) with a Thai Bhuddist partner. She was previously 'married' ? to a Muslim, but could not accept the religeon ! When she left, she was not allowed to have her two young children as their father insisted they be brought up as Muslims by his mother. The children are aged 8 yrs, a boy and a beautiful 7 yr old girl. My partner, tells, me that the father spends most of his time with a muslim lady in northern Malaysia whilst the children live with his mother in Pattani. However the father says that it is time for both the children to be circumcised and that although she has no objection to the son having this done, she has to accept that her daughter be circumcised, and that she has no say in the matter.

I am 'horrified'................is there anything that she can do to stop this barbaric practice of mutilation of her daughter.

  5. I stopped reading the article after it said #2 after Swampy. What happened to Phuket and Chiang Mai airports? OIC, not BK Air owned like Samui, don't count I guess. What's next Ko Chang #3

Not really good news for Samui. Bangkok Air already control movements to benifit themselves. Tried to get a flight to BKK with Thai Air, they are fully booked for next 2 months and cannot get extra flights from Bangkok air. I will have to go to Suratthani airport or use Bangkok Air at inflated prices. This is what happens when a company has a monopoly. Yes its their airport, but about time they got a 'shake up' when are the govt going to build that new airport. Till then, Samui will stagnate.

  6. Right, I would have definitely said something. Strange actually that the staff didn't? (A possibility remains that it wasn't actually overly dangerous and the OP just doesn't like kids and is over-stating the situation.. :) I don't know, I wasn't there.)

'horrific scenes, child on the loose' makes me think the infant was either toting a machine gun or riding on the back of a rabid elephant.

errrrrrrr! i did'nt know that Elephants carry rabies .

  7. OK Let's consider the ten WORST airports in the World.

I nominate the self-styled World's busiest, that hel_l hole of a place called Heathrow. Dirty, ugly, busy, expensive, unfriendly. Need I add more. It is like being at a soccer game as far as crowding goes. Although, to be fair, I have not used the new terminal (5) but I have heard that it is something else. Think of it. Five terminals, all on a par size-wise, with Swampy.

:) I wouldn't go that far mate. LHR would be one hel_l of an airport if each of the 5 terminals were the size of soo-wanna-poom!!

Maybe yes. But none is much smaller and I know nothing about 5.

My real gripe was that the place is always so busy. Whatever terminal.

I can only imagine you haven't spent much time in the departure lounge at Terminal 3. Every time I pass through I meet the happiest group of people in the UK. :D

Yeh ! they are all leaving..........lolololol

  8. Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport Named Among Top Ten

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport has been ranked the 10th in the 2010 World Airport Awards. The Skytrax World Airport Awards were announced at the first live ceremony in Brussels, Belgium, as part of Passenger Terminal Expo.

The top title as World's Best Airport went to Singapore's Changi Airport, named Airport of the Year 2010, Singapore's Changi Airport also took home awards for Best Airport Leisure Amenities and Best Airport Asia. Changi Airport reclaimed first place after being beaten by South Korea's Incheon International Airport last year.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport entered the top ten for the first time ever, moving up from 16th position in 2009. Organizers of the survey say "change and improvement is clearly coming through at a faster pace in Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport."

Joining the ranks of the top ten are South Korea's Incheon International Airport, which came in second this year. It is followed by the Hong Kong International Airport, Munich, Kuala Lumpur, Zurich, Amsterdam, Beijing, and Auckland. Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport comes in this year at tenth place.

Depends on personal opinions i suppose................I thought Auckland a dump !

  9. Its early in the voting, and I am sure those opposing the red shirts succeeding will be in the majority here, but so far I am surprised even at the size of the minority amount the pro red vote is getting here.

Hi Jingthing, i was wondering how many Isaan farmers have got laptops to even think of voting on this one ?

  10. This just brings me to a comment that is only partially on-topic, and that is that the Thai Airways lounges at Suvarnabhumi are s**t!

Even if I am flying business class and get a pass into a Thai lounge, I always choose the CIP Lounges instead.

Unfortunately none of them have showers as far as I'm aware.

It would be a great business to have a decent spa beyond the barriers! (with free access for all air stewardesses!)

Thai Lounge near C gates have showers in the business lounge.

Whilst flying "cattle class" but holding a Thai Orchid frequent flyer card, is it possible to use any of these lounges by paying a fee ?

Yes the Thai Orchid lounge has showers. And also the only lounge which seems to have football coverage. :)

That "cattle class" question came after the football coverage post !

  12. Banned for 3 years minimum and or fine.

YES!..........my brother overstayed 3 months. When he fronted at Brisbane airport for the flight home to UK, he was questioned, mainly about possibly working, which he did not do. Then given a tap on the wrist (naughty boy) and told that he need not apply for another visa for 3 years. He came back 4 yrs later .........no problems !

  13. It used to be far better down Sukhumvit when it had the rickity rackety bars on the street where theyve now built apartments, this area has always been edgy but was always pretty safe, now its anything but safe along here.

It does seem full of angry 45 year old plus fools these days, many thinking theyre a bit handy after reinventing themselves and fancying one last crack at the title, and theyre often rude as <deleted> to the girls as many of them have been ripped off by a similar type girl in the past .... wouldnt say Brits are worse then any other nation when in LOS ... but if you go to any town/city in Britain at the weekend youll see almost anyone but skinheaded tattood types looking for a fight ... its a dreadful place to live permanently which is why so many of us are in Thailand.

The Nigerians along soi 5 have made that area a no go area for anyone looking for a fun hassle free night out, Gullivers and the bars close to it used to be good for a night out, and the fat vile aggressive African prostitutes openly whoring themselves should be locked up and then deported, this would be a good start to sorting the area out.

My question is ..........How do these African poro's get work permits, if i tried to do building on my own land i could be kicked out for no work permit !

  14. I still can't believe how partisan, to one side or the other, farang are on this site. Whoever is in power, it'll make not the slightest difference to our lot in Thailand. Let the Thais get on with it for goodness sake.

I think you're wrong. I think a megalomaniac like Thaksin coming back to power would be a disaster for the country, including foreigners.

Why should it be a disaster ? Everything was 'hunky dory' when he was in power, of course we all know that the 'swine' was cutting down on the army's share of the trough!

Thaksin bought the electorate in the poor areas. He didn't do anything for them. He wasn't just cutting down the army's share, he was making sure he got everything.

"Taksin bought the electorate".........Baaaaaaaaaaaaaa some people behave like sheep and believe anything they are told if it suits them.

I don't, i always want real proof ! This payment line has been pushed to the limit , seems its working for some.

Very, very wrong. If Thaksin comes backs i'm out of here - after being barred from the UK and Germany he's going to have a point to prove...

    :)

On yer bike then tomster and good luck !

  17. Actually not my country, so i can't really talk about politics, as we all are only guests in LOS.

But can someone tell me what PM A. made wrong? He tried to help many poor peaples for free elctricity up to 300 Baht, He try to set a minimum price for fruits and vegetables that the poor farmers not get squizzed by the "middle man dealers". He done manything, but nobody ever speak the good part of PM. A. on this forum.

Do you really think foregin investors would invest money in big amounts overhere, when mister T. comes in power again?

I know ! i know..........but he refuses to give them their rights and entitlements..............a fair election !

  18. An interesting outcome to the procession.

I am also amazed that the Nation printed the headline. Obviously the Sunday editor will need a little re-education on Monday morning. Seeing that there is also an element of support in Bangkok goes to start showing that this is not entirely a rural movement.

LOL. Right, but it's positive that even The Nation cannot avoid some things anymore.

I would suggest that the reds play on this issue for all its worth. Red flowers dropped around the city by pedestrians?

They already do that. Can't find a picture right now though. Posting another batch or rally pics instead:

    I like the pictures

Especially the one that shows a nice converitble mercedes

with the english words "poor man"

Gets their point across loud and clear, lol

Wish i knew the way to copy those fantastic pics and send them to my overseas buddies who are only hearing what this government want them to hear !

  19. Maybe this story will help you understand:

A man was riding his Harley beside a Sydney beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and in a booming voice, The Lord said.

'Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.'

The biker pulled over and said, 'Build a bridge to New Zealand so I can ride over anytime I want.'

The Lord said; 'Your request is materialistic, think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking, the supports required reaching the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind.'

The biker thought hard about it for a long time. Finally, he said, 'Lord, I wish that I and all men could understand our wives. I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy'.

The Lord replied; 'You want two lanes or four on that bridge?

    :):D:D:D:D

thanks for that mate..gotta send that on the inet rounds....

Hi David, hope you got your visa from oz. Dave L.

  20. So you are saying with surety, that if one is at the correct age of 65 (for most of us), have the allowable amounts of assets etc (allowing for the sliding scale of payment), are up-front with all your dealings with Centrelink, (wise anyway), you will be placed on the "International Status List" and can live overseas and be paid monthly (probably into an Australian bank account)

I am a little concerned now, as i have not contacted CL since nov 2009. My OA pension still appears in my Commonwealth Bank account every 14 days. Question now is, should i say nothing or should i "poke the wasps nest'
