That would seem to be an extremely daft comment when even the Chinese funded WHO have recently stated that China needs to be more open about what’s going on with Covid in china as even they (the WHO) have no idea what mutations and strains are going around in China at the moment.
So how on earth can this “doctor” make such a statement?
nonsense!

Thank you ezzra, I think this is the best solution. It’s a shame as I think it could go back on the road as a cheap runaround for someone but I don’t want the hassle.
thanks everyone !

My apologies if this is a daft question but I have an old scooter that I no longer need, for me it’s past economical repair needing a new carb, sorting a minor fuel leak, needs new tyres etc.
any suggestions as to what I can do with it? I see plenty dumped at the roadside but I am NOT going to do that. I would happily give it to a motorbike shop for them to fix up and use or sell on, but what can I do about the green book? The scooter is in my name, and to transfer it to anyone else is a real hassle as the bike doesn’t run, but if I just give it to someone with the book, and they rack up tickets / fines / run around committing crimes with it etc I clearly don’t want to be responsible for that.
Any suggestions as to how I can resolve this please?
or anyone want a scooter ? ????
many thanks

Dear all
my Indonesian wife has visited thailand many times, each day being given a stamp for 30 days on arrival at the airport. We returned yesterday and she was given 45 days on her stamp, the IO also wrote “45” next to the stamp. Is this correct? Has something changed recently for Indonesian arrivals?
I have asked Mr Google but everything I can find says “30 days”
would be interested if anyone knows any different please.
thanks so much !

My goodness, imagine if the police in UK, France, Germany or other western countries listed crimes committed by foreigners !

One can’t help but think these hundreds of police officers would be better put to use taking dangerous and illegal vehicles off the road - saving many of the thousands of lives lost each year.

What hope does the country have if (and I stress “if”) the dean of political science at a university is embroiled in this type of behaviour.

Putin, Xi and Prayut are all unelected dictators so clearly show a similar mindset.
i cannot believe that Putin would attend in person, but you never know as apparently he is going to attend the G20 in Bali.
there is clearly a massive target on him from so many people - so will be interesting to see if he makes it out alive.

Which "made up scooter rules" are those?
If you go to Phuket you will find out. No matter what documents you have on you, they will often ask for something else that carries an on the spot fine.

Maybe they should stop fleecing tourists with made up rules about riding scooters and then more quality tourists would come !

I wonder what the “tourist infrastructure” will be that all this money will be spent on.
a low cost public bus service in phuket and Samui ?

If reports are true, plenty of people have had weed “planted” on them during roadside checks, then had huge fines placed upon them. What about this scenario ?

Having avoided COVID since the pandemic started, we just had a three week trip to Phuket and whilst there - saw thousands of Arabs, Indians and other tourists - none of which were wearing masks. The result - I now have Covid. Maybe some testing for tourists isn’t such a bad idea !

We are in Phuket - a few locals are wearing them but I have hardly seen any tourists wearing them.
99% of tourists are Arab and Indian at the moment - not seen a single Arab wearing one and only a couple of Indians.
all good fun !

Conspiracy theory nonsense! As for HK, as I lived there for 13 years and through the protests, they were nothing to do with the US or the UK, in fact the very opposite!
the people of HK don’t want to be oppressed by Beijing, which is what is happening now. They were appealing to the US and UK to intervene and help them - help that never came.
Conspiracy theorists are just clueless.

Did he know before the crash it was defective?
It probably was working perfectly - airbags only deploy on a serious smash, the damage to the front of the car is minimal therefore it’s unlikely it was severe enough to deploy. He clearly wasn’t wearing his seatbelt which caused the injury.
lots of armchair “experts” on here with little knowledge ????

Yes you can use it, but you cannot download it to your phone via wifi, only via SIM card data (why that is, who knows!)
as others have said, make sure you top up your SIM card so you keep it valid for the OTP
Beware, Thai police checkpoint on-the-spot fines jumped to 1000 baht

The saddest part for me is that Phuket had two years of Covid to introduce a proper public transport system - I suggested many times a minibus route map similar to that in Hong Kong using the same style of small bus, and gainfully employing all the tuktuk drivers to drive them. This would have meant that tourists don’t need to rent extremely dangerous scooters.
this would resolve:
the “taxi only” parking that plagues Patong
the massive congestion caused by the taxis
The huge number of injuries and deaths from local and tourist scooter riders
reduce pollution and increase air quality
make phuket a far nicer place to visit so more people will return and it will attract the quality tourists that TAT say they are after.
But no - sadly this opportunity has been wasted, there will likely never be another chance.
I see the Chinese tourists are already wobbling around the island on scooters, girlfriend on the back glued to her phone. Saw a few of them with bandages legs out last night !
