The US military has a number of soldiers just arrived two days ago, staying in apartments in Chonburi, suppose to be training the Thai army. I bet they are not happy, just guessing the Thai Army has not had shots. With everything closed might as well load them on a plane and get out of Dodge while the getting is good

For verification, all my Philipino American friends, except for their offsprings who were born in America (to be specific, the USA) don't speak American English. They speak Tagalog-English. Somewhere along this thread it was described as "sing-song" English. Similar to what you hear from an Indian (from India), though at a bit slower pace, but not by much. Though that doesn't rule out the possibility of some Philipino from the Philippines who speak American English and come to teach English in Bangkok...
I once met a young Vietnamese girl working at the reception of a language learning center in Dalat, VN. When she answered me in English I thought she comes from California. When asked, she said she has never set foot outside her hometown.
Reading your comment about the Vietnamese lady so going to add. As for the post about 50 back that stated no Asian can speak English without an accent. I have meet numerous Asians with no accent. Good examples.
We were sitting in a sports bar in Biloxi Mississippi on the Gulf Coast, way south. Watched a Vietnamese couple walk in with their two daughters around 18-20s. They left the two at the bar, both dressed to the max, designer bags and cloths. The bartender gave them the lunch menu. When they started to speak it was amazing. If we were not looking at them, we would have said two girls right off the bayous of Mississippi. What an amazing combination, Asian beauty with a Mississippi accent. Another thing, they ordered a hamburger and fries and ate the entire meal with their knife and fork, never touching it with their hands.
Have a good Korean friend around 50, retired from the Air Force. Was adopted from Korea when she was around 1 ½ years old and raised in NW Florida/Lower Alabama. Speaks with a southern accent, no way would you know she was Korean.

Totalitarian yes, communist. no. Capitalists are taking over, as they do. Some people (me included) would call China a fascist state. Trump can only dream of Xi's power.
China’s private sector - which has been revving up since the global financial crisis - is now serving as the main driver of China’s economic growth. The combination of numbers 60/70/80/90 are frequently used to describe the private sector's contribution to the Chinese economy: they contribute 60% of China’s GDP, and are responsible for 70% of innovation, 80% of urban employment and provide 90% of new jobs. Private wealth is also responsible for 70% of investment and 90% of exports.

I can't let your ignorance fly either.
You are only using the number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 to calculate your mortality %.
It is well known and agreed upon that the actual number of people infected worldwide with Covid-19 is much, much higher. Exactly how much is not known. Some educated estimates have it between 10-20x higher than the official number, or perhaps even more (https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.14.20062463v2). We also know that a staggering number of people that get infected, are asymptomatic or near asymptomatic.
The current number of deaths is approx 233,000. The current number of tested positive Covid-19 infections worldwide is 3.25million. Multiply that number by 10 to get the estimated actual infections of Covid-19 (32,500,000).
233,000/32,500,000=0.008x100=.8%
Even just using 5x 3.25mil
233,000/16,500,000=0.014x100=1.43%
It's novel, it's serious, and we need to take it seriously and fight it appropriately BUT it doesn't seem as bad as some would want you to believe, does it?
Man.... After all that typing, I sure could use a cold beer.... D'oh!!!!
You are absolutely right, as large testing in NYC started, they have already found 15-20% may have been asymptomatic. Some medical doctors have come out now and stated possibly up to 50% of the population may be asymptomatic to some extent. So, lowering the death rate to near .02-3%. However, it does spread more easily then the flue does.

Hmm... who own alcohol business here in LOS? Belong 20 richest in here! What Prayut asking from them! And what he not get! What kind the struggle for power is going behind the scene what nobody knows. Few million alcoholic people dont mean nothing in that fight!
Yep, sounds about right except the part about what he asked of them. A shorter version is called a bribe, they didn’t pay so here’s the consequences. With luck the owners will give in and pay up. Everything back to normal.
What these big owners need to do is sit down, figure the loss in revenue verses the DONATION to the gen on sorry, the country. Come up with a middle ground to donate to the good of the country!

I served my country in a theatre of war and I take exception to you thinking that you know anything about soldiers. You probably don't have any knowledge about beer production, farmers, taxes, corruption, mafia, USA prohibition or how the Thai government operates. However after 3 bottles of Chang you probably know what formaldehyde tastes like and the effect that it has on a simpleton.
I would think if he is referring to the general running the Thai Government then he is correct. But professional solders in other countries would indeed not make such stupid decisions.
As for making money off alcohol Prohibition, look no further then old Joe Kennedy. How do you think the Kennedy Clan got all their money?
Not an expert on how much money farmers and people in the alcohol supply chain or losing, would guess a large number of people out of work. But the Government alone is losing one of its major tax revenues from the ban.
However it does not affect the people at the top one bit.

If I were (and I am not) a well placed, powerful politico with an agenda, I would want to test a theory before implementing it on a larger scale. It is one thing to respond to an obvious need for public welfare and quite another thing to use that situation (manifest it?) as part of a larger deployment. Last week I broke my crystal ball. so I will just say it is gut instinct; that this is only the beginning of a series of pandemics/government shutdowns/crises/ social reorganization programs that will be moderated and escalated to achieve an end no normal person has any concept of.
I am afraid you are right. Right out of the play book of Obama’s man Ezekiel Emanuel. (NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE). This is the perfect storm for military rulers to consolidate power, no more government protest, no Future Forward Party. Anybody that gets out of line now will be dealt with, what we do is for the greater good of the country. Unsure if the great leader and friends’ drinks or not, not relevant, I am sure their well-stocked up. As for those wealthy families that own the alcohol brewery’s, it may be a way to put them in their place and show who really has the power. You may be rich but watch this. DFWM.
As for the economy and bringing in taxes, I think they could care less. It will not affect them one bit.

Nothing paranoid about it, that’s their goal.
Read a long article today in the Cambodian newspaper. CCP accused almost everyone in the world of starting the virus and practically saying it did not come from China. According to the CCP its all the worlds fault just to make poor old China look bad. If someone had told me about the article, I would have not believed it. We know Cambodia is nothing more then a providence of China now, so what can you expect from the Khmer Times. Link below, good news site to see just how a communist government works.
As for Australian wine, they do make some good wine. I think that will be one of my favorites when this ban is lifted and will move my preference to it when ordering from now on.

Well I have zero complaint unless I go to the VA, then I have them refer me down town if possible. I can see my civilian doctor usually within 2 -3 days if I need an apt., I can get meds refiled on the patient portal. Last major should operation 2 years ago was done by Gulf Coast Orthopedic center, one of the best in the world. You know you are in the right place when you see pictures of all the famous athletes signed on the wall. Took two weeks to set up, mainly because my doctor was on a sky trip to Aspin! I guess it depends what city you are in.
If you don’t like the care you get from your doctor then find another one. Tell them the problem, if they don’t get in line walk out and find another.

Covid-19 appears to kill people of African (aka 'black") people in the US at twice the rate for Caucasions. So there is some clinical basis for their fear.
Where do you get twice the rate? Its true it affects African American people more because of their life style. The AA tend to smoke more, be overweight, eat more fatty food. Generally, they have a far worse life style. It also kills males at a greater rate and unsure why at this point. Some have suggested its because females have a stronger immune system then males.
As for the US, stay out of NY and New jersey, that’s over half the cases in the US. Health care is the best in the world, no food shortages, no alcohol shortages. Just disliking the US is most of the problem on this forum.

remember USS LIBERTY, never underestimate your enemy
The USS Liberty was a WW2-era cargo ship fitted for intelligence gathering and very lightly armed. The Israelis attacked first with war planes then torpedo boats, but the Liberty still made it to port. That was over 50 years ago, I am guessing that situation does not apply to the Gulf Area now.

Whilst I can see some reasoning to ban alcohol during Songkran, to stop wild parties and folks getting too close together etc . I am at a loss to see how banning alcohol, until the end of April, will stop anyone getting Covid-19. By your reasoning banning alcohol permanently will stop some people getting the virus! How does that work??
This ban came about because a bunch of Thais sitting outside the 7/11s drinking at all hours of the night. The Thai police have no control over the people and can’t stop it. So, lets just ban the sale of alcohol. We have discussed this before, the lack of authority or respect for the police.

I am down to three bottles of wine. Would you like to sale some of those bottles????? Figured it will last till the 20th, most for our Saturday evening meal. Now Nonthaburi may extend! Just kidding

It has been approved by the FDA years ago for the treatment of malaria. They know the side effects of taking the drug. If it helps with C19, no study yet. Point is, you as a patient don’t have to take it, so as they say down on walking street, just say no, to your doctor. Then you can wait for a few years for the FDA to tell you its all good my friend.

Like I stated, maybe in Thailand. Like I stated, not relevant to this couple. They are in the US and it was not the malaria drug we are discussing.
Next time my wife and Niece go out I will have them ask about getting it, just for facts of this argument.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/06/us/politics/coronavirus-trump-malaria-drug.html------
A number of TVF members have posted accounts of their purchases of these medicines, providing directions and maps to pharmacies that are selling these medicines and in some cases posting photos of their personal stock of these medicines.
As was stated, it came from Morning Joe on MSNBC. He stated (we need to look at Trumps connection to this drug and follow the money). I have seen the clip numerous times on the news. This is in reference to Trump making money off the drug.
As for TVM buying this drug. Not in the US, maybe here in Thailand but I would bet not. If some store is selling it here in Thailand over the counter please give us the location and name. But other countries are not relevant to this couple who is located in the US. You can post pictures where you are buying Meth to, but not legal. Again, very slowwwwly, in the US it has to come from a doctor. You can go to any pet story and buy what they took, has nothing to do with the drug for malaria we are talking about.

Army says no truth to rumor soldiers pictured at airport were flying to USA to get vaxxed

They have a large detachment of US solider that arrived around two days ago. They are staying at an apartment complex in Chonburi. They are here to train the Thai Army for two weeks or more. Should have had them Jump Master the Thai C130, give them their 5 jumps and award the US wings. A C130 is a C130 just use the US Jump Masters, which I am sure they have. probably going to get their Thai jump wings while here.
