Hello everyone!
My name is Nicolaas and I am from South Africa - currently in Hua Hin. I happened upon this thread and wondered whether anyone knows of a similar get together near here?
Also, I want to help out (with Linux-y stuff and such) and take part but cannot travel to Bangkok - have any suggestions? Do you guys have an IRC room or something - or is this thread the only and official home of the Grungthep-Gnu-Gurus (or whatever)?
Regards
Nicolaas
Nicolaas,
I am afraid that you either have to come to Bangkok or follow this thread as there is no other 'chapter' in Thailand yet.

Just a few people showed up last night, maybe still flooding in Bangkok????
Anyway, following members showed up: Flash77, Justsomehelp, M1K3 (new member), Dharmabam (late) and myself
My compliment for M1K3 who wants to run his whole office on open software
I think you should offer Dharmabam a job!
We discussed Sun hardware (why do you want to buy that), Samsung phone, root access on a Samsung phone and Dharmabam showed us his new toy, an Acer tab (correct) with USB port.
Normally Urandom tries to 'hack' my PC but this time it was Justsomehelp who was using Droidsheep on his mobile to fool my laptop.....
Unfortunately I had to go back early to Pattaya because of transport issues, maybe next time I should overnight in Bangkok!
Looks like next meeting will be March 1st - time for a high turnout.
Hope to see you all again.
Cheers,

I am not married but I have a son with my Thai girlfriend. He has two passports, a Thai and a Dutch passport.
Has he now all the rights of a Thai person who's father and mother are both Thai, yes or no?
Someone told me that he has to go to the army but is not allowed to vote.
Thanks for your help.

Dear all,
As my parents are on holiday in Thailand at the moment, I completely forget my IT meeting this month in Bangkok - bad, bad, bad boy…
Another issue is that the "Watch topic" stopsworking at this forum so after a while I don't see any new post anymore regarding my topic "Ubuntu=> IT meeting" . Normally they remind me that the new meeting is coming!
Flooding, parking problems and now memory problems, looks like we need to re-start the group again.
Details new IT meeting:
Date: January 5th 2012
Time: 07:00pm / 19:00h
Location: Sukhumvit, Soi 8, Soi 8 Bar, Bangkok - have a lookat http://www.soi8.net/
Hope to see you all again, Colin Chapman, Dharmabam, Crushdepth,DevDrinker, BugJackBaron, Flash7, Pacopeco, William Sandin, Kenny, Pinair, Justsomehelp and Kmdkk
Regarding all other members I forget to mention, sorry if your name is not here.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2012!!!!

I already see ministers from France and Belgium visiting Holland and tell us how to handle coffee shops (this is where you buy soft drugs in Holland which is legal)
Do you think we - The Dutch - would follow up their recommendation(s)?
We will listen to them, look at their proposal, put in in a drawer and lock it - thank you very much for you opinion!
Same in Thailand, same as anywhere else in the world, don't tell us what to do, we know better.....

At the 7/11 shops here in Pattaya they have no more "Chang classic", instead they sell now "Chang Export"
Sato run out of stock as well...

Give it to the Dutch , they know what to do , their country has big surfaces UNDER sea level , great water managing experts.
Do you really think they will listen to us.........

Just had a fight with my girlfriend about - yes money
Her brother want to borrow TB 20.000 so he can buy a motorbike, he promissed he will pay it back.
I asked my girlfriend why he did not save money FIRST so he had enough money to buy a motorbike.
Her answer was that he could not save money as he is poor.
My question then was "If he can not save money, how can he pay back the money?"
No answer, she walked away...
So to make a long story short, I will buy him a motorbike and GIVE it to him
The world economy is the same, spend money that you don't have but banks will borrow you money so you can spend it.
Banks are the problem in this world, you can't borrow money to people if they can't pay it back....
