  1. The signs are up in the Transport Office in CM in Thai. Most everyone is in very casual jeans and t-shirt type wear.

Is it to much to ask that one cover hairy legs a few times a year?

For those who believe they must be allowed to be dressed for the beach at all times because they meet requirements to stay and "spend plenty of money", perhaps they can hire an agent to visit immigration for them?

  2. "Ask a Jew friend, friend who happen to be Jew" Why do these threads always descend into subtle racism and bigotry? I know plenty of Jews from the USA none of them read or speak any Hebrew.

One might want to ask an Israeli. Many of them are Arabs.

  3. There is no question to answer other than the motivation of climate change deniers. Many of the most prolific are paid trolls of the Carbon fuel industry. The rest on internet forums constitute their minions. Persons with irrational animus to governments, "Obama" or liberals, international organizations of any kind, to whom almost any subject of interest is the result of some kind of conspiracy or trick to raise taxes or the away their huge Ford F350, (or in the US their guns). These are the same people who will tell you the global warming is a scam because Al Gore flies in business jets and George Bush is a "great steward of the environment" who (at one time) lived in an energy efficient home.

Anthropogenic climate disruption is settled science. This idea that solar cycles has something to do with climate is pseudoscience, pure bunk. It is not surprising that this mini ice age hysteria was pushed during Obamas visit to Alaska. On the other hand it is true that nobody is doing anything about it . In fact as the Arctic clears of ice world governments are on a new petro resource scramble. "Obama" himself just authorized Shell oils' new arctic drilling in the Chukchi sea and will no doubt approve the Keystone XL pipeline as well.

The worst thing about climate change denial is that it intellectually dishonest. In the face of overwhelming evidence what I am starting to hear now from some right-wing politicians and their minions is "Yeah, the earth is warming, it's our fault, but there is nothing we can do about it because China will cheat so let's just trash the planet and try to adapt". I prefer that honesty to charlatanism and pseudoscience.

  4. That is all great but I would imagine they are scammers、what does it matter, you have to hand them money in the street?

How many well dressed farangs in he street can there be who just "need a few hundred baht to get home". Or persecuted so called "Christians". Or Ukrainian women who need food for "their baby". Lies, all of it. It is not like this kind of scam is easy but I have pointed out many people simply will not WORK for a living. Many of them become crooks, crims and grifters. Many of them come to Thailand to ply their trade. I give money to bums on the street who don't ask for it but I will never be suckered by these liars.

  5. Of course, right-wing ideologues only oppose science when it contradicts their pre-conceived notions of reality. Take for example the Texas Christian conservative Engineer who otherwise competent insists the universe is only 6000 years old .Rejection of climate science is only a reaction to fanciful slippery slopes and losses of certain freedoms they fear, compulsively. Of course nobody wants to pay more "taxes" or relinquish control to governments or other actors such as the UN. Even if it means trashing the Earth that gives all life and a future for their offsprings. The problem is nobody is talking of any such thing, and these reactionaries are in actuality at best paranoids and worst borderline wack jobs.

  6. So let us say one is convinced the overwhelming consensus is absolutely 180 degrees wrong. Sea levels are dropping, glaciers are growing, global temperatures on average are decreasing and we are indeed moving into an ice age due to Mauder minimum induced global cooling. What should individuals and societies do to prepare and adjust for such an eventuality?

  7. By the way last season there was no appreciable snow pack in the Sierra Nevada of California despite all the snow in the Canadien Maritimes. Sure enough again this winter FOX will resplendently report on some brain-dead tool of big oil bringing a snowball into the hall of the US congress and then again the dummies will have to be reminded that weather is not climate. Still, July 2015 was the hottest month in recorded history. Sorry climate change deniers, paid trolls from Putins' Russia to the Koch brothers and the fossil fuel industry, plus their countless online minions, we are NOT headed for a so called "mini ice age". http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2015/07/no-earth-not-heading-mini-ice-age

  8. Absolute BS and lies, these Foreigners who approach on the street or in stores. I have heard the Christian thing before.

First thing you tell them is there is no God and "your beliefs are an absurd fantasy of the human mind". They will soon move on to the next pigeon, sucker, or simp.

  9. "From the scientific point of view it is now very likely that there will be again another Ice Age, quite soon, in the world, that we shall have the north part of the world all frozen like it used to be, and we're beginning to have natural disasters, from the scientists' study it seems likely that we should soon begin to have these great changes in the earth's climate so people will not be able to live where they have, and the oceans will rise, and many cities will be flooded, like London, and Calcutta, and so on. These things, they say, will happen, according to scientific theory, in about forty years at the most, but maybe even quicker." - J.G. Bennet

Apparently Robert Fripp recorded this intro to the following song at a talk by Bennet at Sherbourne House, Gloucester about 40 year ago. It never made sense to me though why if we are to have another ice age why the oceans would rise?

  10. Same with every country. Thailand is just catching up. I know a Thai woman whos Japanese husband wanted to take her to Hawaii for vacation. She has a University degree, good job in Japan for a medical device manufacturer, properties, kids in school, everything. (She is decent looking and much younger than him.) Anyway, U.S. Embassy Tokyo Turned her down 2 years in a row then approved a tourist visa third time.

When they arrived in Honolulu they only let her in after taking her to a private room (without her husband) and telling her not to "run away". She felt the whole time insulted and treated like a common Trollop. Not interested in returning.

  11. My personal experience with this topic. Flying in to Auckland NZ in 1990, thats right 1990. Dont know what system they used then, but instantly red flag on immigration computer, refused entry. It went so quick that i had hard to understand how they had got info about small drug conviction in US and later deportation many years before. I spendt three days sleeping at the airport, talking to news channels and papers, having visit from ex wife and my five yr old son, getting faxed from Norway very good papers even from police and from my workplace about what a stand up citizen i had been and still was to sosiety since my brush with the law in US years before. A real sob story. The point. Immigration police told me that as soon as i bought the ticket from Singapore Air two months before travel at their office in Norway, the NZ Immigration Police knew i was coming. Anyway the appeal went all the way to Minister for Immigration, refused entry still and deportation, no consideration for small boy. My question, if they could get that kind og info then, what can they not get these days.

As they knew you were coming for 2 months it would have been nice if they could have advised you or the airline you would be denied entry. Save a lot of trouble I'd reckon.
  12. I don't mean to start a Thailand Elite thread but the application is about two pages and requires no documentation or proof of income. You submit one photo. Pay 500k baht and you get a 5 year visa. My only point is that it proves every requirement of these various offices is perfectly arbitrary, capricious , and based on no actual legal requirements whatsoever.

I mean like you need to have a picture of your house sign. It is wrong and your whole extension is held up because the picture had half a thumb in it? What kind of rubbish is this? Your income letter is unacceptable because it is addressed to Khon Kaen Immigration instead of "his honour the director of Khon Kaen Immigration Khun Somchai Pakalolo" Meanwhile any Farang who lays down 500k baht gets a 5 year visa for spending some dosh, which may just be a tiny squirt of his criminal cash flow.

    The unfairness defies belief.

  13. I wonder if (perhaps) Gerry can clarify the conditions for upgrading from Easy Access membership (5 years) to full individual membership (20 years)?

The Thailand Elite website says that the upgrade fee is 1,500,000 baht, as opposed to the full cost of 2 million baht for individual membership.

Does that mean that I can use my Elite membership/visa until my 5 years are up and then upgrade to individual membership of 20 years for 1.5 million baht? (I can't believe that Thailand Elite would be so generous as to give me a 500,000 baht discount as a satisfied customer....)

    Indeed.

Once you arrive to the end of your current Easy Access membership, you have the choice.

Upgrade to the full membership, by paying the remaining part of the fee (1,5 million), or (in the case such an offer still exists by that time), take another 5 years membership.

If you upgrade to the full membership, there will be 15 years left.

Another solution is to buy a brand new full membership for 2 million, of course. In that case you have the new membership for 20 years.

A last solution would be to go back to the ED, Tourist, and that kind of visas... But I am pretty sure that you would not want that one smile.png

If you can afford a Thai Elite, you can easily afford to put the required 800,000 in a bank and get a retirement visa.

The question is .. how old is the OP ???

I could see a person 45 buying a 5 year, and then going retirement visa....easily.

BTW, if you truly research an Elite Payment schedule, you will discover that (4) 5 years is less expensive than one 20 year until you fully exploit all the golf packages...etc. Plus the fact, the 20 year has fess the 5 year does not.

Why would anyone commit to a 20 year, when they could achieve the same goal incrementally, I will never understand.

Perhaps they do not (nor the seller, Thai Elite) ... understand the future value of money and the opportunity cost of tying up 1,500,000 when it is not required.

The easy access 500k option does not include the golf / spa freebies. It does include airport transfers, airport assistance and VIP lane, govt services assistance, and various discounts at program member spas, courses, and restaurant discounts.
  14. Americans with only a Drink Driving conviction are barred from Canada. Japanese with known "yakuza" affiliations are on a list, can't fly to USA/Guam. So many guys missing digits, nothing to do with "gardening accidents". The surveillance state is internationalized. Thailand is playing catch up. Bravo, they could do a better job keeping crims and their ilk out.

  15. Ok I can understand not having a Thai passport. The other circumstances you listed are fanciful assumptions. Of course if they went to another country they would show US passport if that was convenient.

Maybe a Thai young man of draft age with US passport? I'm thinking he could be grabbed anyway.

Just wondering what circumstance would have a concrete benefit.

  16. So let's say I arrive in CM June 18, and post a TM30. I stay until June 24. Then I leave for 5 days work returning to CMJune 29. I then stay until July 11. Then I plan on staying away about 6 week until say 16 of August.

Does the TM30 posted June 30 satisfy the requirements for a given period of time or do I have to post another TM30 each time I take up residence (June 18, 29, and August 16). No other Alien will take up residence whilst I am away. Fussing with stamps and envelopes onerous and burdensome.

I wonder how a large Hotel such as the Westin Grande Sukhumvit, with hundreds of Alien comings and goings daily can satisfy this requirement. Thus my query if it is possible online?
