  1. I own my condo and (Don't stay long as I work overseas and only come during off time).

I write my full address on my arrival card. Does not seem this satisfies requirements of the Immigration act and I am in violation then as I'm sure the Condo management is not reporting my comings and goings. I do not care to go to Immigration on my free time.

Is there a way to make this report online, or should I just not bother? I have never had to do a 90 day report and in the years since I bought my room this issue has never come up.

  2. What about those whose parents are right-wing ideologues or fascists? In my case it is not so bad but the conversations are the same as 20 years ago, brainwashed people whose reason is now more besotted by age. 75+ year old people who have never missed a meal in their life. Sitting on a sofa watching FOX, blaming everything on Obama, democrats, or the pittance a few take on Welfare? How much was spent on the F-35?

    Oh, never mind.

  3. My experience with scooters so far from rentals the Auto's seems OK but, I do not like the ones with my feet flat on the plastic.

Like the body position with feet on pegs. I like the Honda Wave and Dream 125 best, not sure the difference. Website does not say much either.

Obviously I want fuel injection, heard the alloy wheels are better than spoked for flat protection but makes no sense to me from a physics standpoint.

I have had two flats on Honda rentals with spoked wheels, one in town and I was away in minutes, another in the country. I drove slowly on a flat rim for ages until I found a bike shop.

Confessed to the rental shop and told him I would pay for any damage. He said wheel was fine "mai pen rai".

Suzuki 110 in new condition seemed like a junky alternative to the Honda's in terms of quality. I drive Honda motorcars as well.

By the way I saw 6 scoopi's in a row outside of 7-11 last week. Must be popular for some reason.

  4. Exactly. My job involves constant international travel. When I retire I intend to stay in one place to live, recreate, and (possibly) work in some capacity. Will not be in my "home country". Nothing to do with being afraid just not interested.

  5. Hi, I was told by immigration at nong khai on April 30th that I was not able to return to Thailand due to too many 30 day exemptions in the past. As others have reported, I was told that the computer had flagged me. The immigration official even brought me around the counter to see the yellow pop up for my immigration record. He allowed me to enter, this time only, as I told him I needed to fly back to Japan from chiang mai. He was very apologetic, as I produced my work documents and letters from JICA and Laos MPWT, but said there was nothing he could do about this as the computer system had now changed to show these "do not allow entry" warnings. I had driven to vientiane from chiang mai, to work on a JICA project with the LAOS MPWT there. I returned to chiang mai and then flew home to Japan on may 3rd. On exiting through immigration at CNX airport, the immigration official again told me that I would need a visa to return to Thailand, that a 30 day exemption was not an option.

History: I am a US citizen with permanent residency in Japan for last 20 years, where I work as a consultant in transportation. I have visited Thailand regularly over the last 20 years, sometimes on business mostly on leisure. The last five years I have been spending 4 months a year in Chiang Mai. Two and a half years ago I started working on a JICA project in vientiane. I have flown directly there and also driven there from Chiang Mai during this period. As a result, I have many Laos visas plastered in my passport. I also have visited mae sai and crossed into Myanmar twice over the last four years.

I flew into Vientiane on July 1st from NRT, and will be here until the 18th then return to Japan. I will fly to Chiang Mai on August 13th and return to japan 30 days later. I will then fly from Japan to CNX in beginning of November for Loy khatrong, and stay for 30 days as well.

For 2015, I flew NRT VTE in January, 10 day stay, NRT CNX February, 28 day stay, NRT VTE March 12 day stay, NRT CNX April stayed 18 days then drove to VTE by car exited by land stayed VTE for 7 days, crossed back by land border and had my problem, departed CNX NRT 3 days later, flew to USA NRT ORD for 18 days in June, and now NRT VTE for 18 days.

Sorry long windup, but my question, will I indeed have difficulty for my planned returns to CNX in August and November? If so, is a single entry visa my only option here in Vientiane? (I read udon joe saying this was 90 day limited) or should I just show up as i usually do, with return ticket and $2000 cash? My passport has only 4 pages left, and I will not have an opportunity to add more until after November due to time constraints, so I am worried about that as well, lol.

Thank you for any advise, I have read everything here, but just need some handholding, lol.

Finally, I work in Japan and am not (nor wish to be) retired or married and live rather far from a royal Thai embassy (would require two days off work and over 70,000 yen) so please spare me the 'get the right visa' litany, 30 day exemptions are precisely for people like me. I just wish they would allow Visa on arrival for US passport holders, as that would solve my problem.

    Thanks again.

Regarding extra pages. If you have time in when returning in August I made an online appointment at US consulate Chiang Mai to get extra pages morning of July 2. They gave me two sets of extra pages for $84 and I was done by noon. The last time I got pages in Akasaka the best I could get was next day service.
  6. 1. After traveling the world and working for the US Govt for 23 years and not been back to the USA - even for a visit - for over seven years, I recently went back for retirement out processing. Here's what I found

    2. AirBNB.Com - you can rent rooms in peoples houses or the whole apt itself for 'next to nothing' all over the USA for short term stays. Meet some very nice folks doing it as well............you basically become part of their extended family and they love your stories about living overseas.

    3. Enterprise car rentals - $600 a month for a Stnd Car - I use a Amex Platinum to rent it - no insurance required as Amex covers the rental.........or look in phonebook - Rent-a-Wreck $400 a month for a good used car. I once bought a used car drove it for a month all over the USA and when I got to Los Angeles, donated it to the VFW - took full Blue Book value off my Taxes.

    4. Motel 6 or 8 has rooms all over USA for $40-$60 a night

5, Guess your friends were not very friendly after all - find new ones.

    6. I am back in Thailand after 2 months in the US - tired of hearing Police Sirens all night, Booming Radios from people's(?) cars playing Gangsta Rap, News full of shootings, bombings, protesting's, riots over police/citizen shootings............told my family if they see me again they will be lucky, or they will have to come to SE Asia to see me.

    Good Luck

I know California in summer is higher than average but they last time I stayed in Motel 6 it was $90. Foot punctured by glass shard in bathroom. Near Nimitz freeway in Oakland. Probably not safe to walk around at night. Humped it over to Sams Hofbrau anyway.

By the way Motel 6 in Santa Barbara wants $229 next weekend.

Looking at Maui in August, anything available about $215.00 night minimum plus taxes and fees.

  7. "We" do not sleep on sofas anymore, or care too share bathrooms smelling and hearing some granny's explosive bowel movements through thin walls.

Don't really care to go but I still have a few contacts/family who can put me up in a separate room. Car hire is essential and not too pricey. US Hotels are outrageous even in rural areas.

So last year I go all the way out to IAD to meet my oldest mate who I have not seen in 9 years. He was going to pick me up at the airport take me to dinner then to his home, but my flight was 5 hours late, as is typical with crappy US airlines. The truth is ones sudden presence is a disruption and with family, jobs, you cannot expect people to come out at 2AM. So here I am at a major airport, no information counter, no phone bank with hotel info in the arrival area like they used to have, can hardly find a public phone never mind a phonebook. Fortunately IAD had free WiFI. EVERYTHING IN TOWN SOLD OUT! I called Starwood as I know there is a Westin Dulles and I have a crapload of points. (Duh Westin "Dools" is sold out sir. ) Some of these call center jobs are actually outsourced to prisoners in jails making slave wages. I thought to hire a car and sleep in it or go out into the Virginia countryside to find a motel. Oh yeah if one sleeps in a vehicle one would probably be hassled by authorities.

So I found a room by walking around in the cold for around 30 minutes asking hotel van drivers who were picking up the last air crews if there was anything available. The first one I gave to an Asian couple who had an infant and were in the same situation. I finally got a room at Marriott Dulles. I think they let me check out at 2PM because I have a member number. Around $300 all in for 12 hours in a what is a poorly lit basic room overlooking a carpark, that has a small desk, and fortunately one of those extremely plush Queen beds piled with pillows and nice sheets. Internet extra charge. I waited around in the lobby all day until my bro finished work again and came to pick me up. We had a nice barbecue at his house, but other than "being there", conversations can be had online. It just not practical or worth it for me.

  8. I am sure the OP will not be allowed back in, I am sure they changed the rules and he will have to stay out of Thailand for a certain period until he is allowed to return.

Rubbish. (Actually I am tired of overstayers and illegal workers. ) Go to airport and pay your fine. Those of us who live legally are left constantly trying to prove a negative. Thanks mate cheers.
  9. By 1975, Garry Davis had already been imprisoned 20 times for his attempts to cross international borders with nothing but a World Passport.[31] Doug Casey, American investor; received his World Passport from Garry Davis in the 1970s, and claims to have used it to travel to Iceland, French Polynesia, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Peru[49]" -Wikipedia

I actually had this book this book way back in the 80's "The International Man". Author Doug Casey has probably made some some good dosh pedaling books and Internet seminars to all the simps over the years, going back to the 1970's. The same tired platform of tax shelters, offshore banking, precious metal hoarding, and getting dodgy second passports. Wonder if he actually has done anything real with his life?

England? The club would have to pay me to play in the sodding rain.

  11. Thread already running in home country section

Just got a message from my company that beginning in 2016 extra pages will no longer be added to any US passport, and to take action early if warranted. I can't see the justification for this additional hassle and expense, system has worked fine forever. Queue the typical bleatings of "security" considerations.

I have received pages overnight US Embassy, Tokyo. Same day service at LA Federal building. Probably look into getting them here soon. My passport is filling up fast with immigration chops.

  12. Is it common in Pattaya for men to walk around shirtless like the fellow in the background. I tried it jogging in Chiang Mai and got some dirty looks.

From the article (which you didn't read):

Mr. Mohammad told police that he was swimming with his friend and left his bag on the beach when he saw Mr. Sujinda walk over to it and stole some of his belongings. He then quickly got out of the sea and chased after him up soi 7 but the disappeared. Therefore, Mr. Mohammad went to notify the police and while he was walking back to his hotel he spotted Mr. Sujinda ( thief) walking near Top’s Supermarket so he ran over and caught him.

Read the article before posting :)
I did read the article before posting. The man (shirtless) appears to be a bystander. If he was the Swede who apprehended the thug he would have been made to point a finger at the culprit!

  13. I used to read Mad when I was a kid in the seventies/eighties, also had a huge collection of National Lampoon. Unfortunately I got ripped off in college once and lost a bunch of cool stuff.

  14. Same chinese junk always cheaper in the US. The ToysRus main site shows a box of 20 pool noodles for $99. MAYA had some trainers for 4900 baht that can be had for 80 bucks at FootLocker, and look a little fake. Still I would rather pay tarriffs and duties than be raped by in income taxes to pay for big government and its various wastes.
