Around the old bus station in the center of town you'll find rental shops as well as song tows and tuktuk's.
I have done the trip from bus station to bus station in less than two hours in my car. This can only be done late in the day when there isn't much traffic and you know the road. If your driving yourself for the first time expect it to take 3 hours plus.
correct done the drive a few times 3 hours

Good advice ... for a TOURIST. Explore the area. Most times real people in real life just NEED to get between point A and point B in the most EFFICIENT manner. And have fun carrying perishable groceries for two hours in the tropical heat.
Oh shut up
You're spoiling my fun.
But, seriously, and I realise that I am almost alone in this, I do work here, and I do take my time.
I've come to understand that in life, I don't like to hurry and I don't like stress or being late, so I've created a life for myself that has massive amounts of space, so I can take my time.
It doesn't pay as well, but then neither does it give me ulcers.
OMG I just realised what I said. I sound just like a Thai! Maybe I'm not alone and maybe I'm in the right place, haha.
But yes, point taken.
If I did that run and had to be efficient with my time, I would take the shit bus and complain about it too.
But if I did it long time, I would create space for a longer trip or pay for a fast and comfortable trip. I do not like long term stressors in my life, apart from cigarettes.
very good answer

After having lived in Chiang Mai and repeatedly having excellent food, beer, etc in great ambiance local Thai restaurants, I do choke when I have to spend 3-4x in a western restaurant. Its a nice "once in awhile treat" but I really enjoy Thai food and dont feel as is I am missing anything by not spending the 3-4x more
Last night with 3 friends we had several brilliant fish, great soup and a few chicken dishes along with about 15 local Thai beers and spent 250 baht each. It was a great time. I just think once you appreciate the value of the baht and how far it goes if you "eat/ drink like a local" then you do automatically think twice about running to a western establishment.
great answer

Where ever 'Chef Nigel' is cooking.
He's American and knows how to do the classic spread yanks are used to.
But the OP's friends are from the UK, if they wanted something traditional for yanks they could just go to MacDonalds.

I always go upstairs to the Departure area where Taxis drop people off and grab on there, no 50baht fee
Does the skytrain to the airport run 24/7? If so, is the service very frequent in the early morning, about 5 AM?
Thank you! This really is a great forum!
Ugghhh cant even imagine dragging my sorry ass through customs at 5am after a long flight to catch a train to save three dollars.
good grief

I assume the title means foreign expats or sexpats - which is true but many of the Pattaya residents don't realize that Pattaya attracts the worst of Thais - the con artists/scammers, drug dealers, prostitutes(of course) and criminal filth from all over Thailand.
agree with you mate

(beans with bacon/eggs is so wrong).
You must be joking - always need to have the beans there to add a bit of colour and some moisture to a fried breakfast - the more the better I say - especially piled on top of some fried bread
sounds good

She should be looking for the information herself while you look just to confirm what she tells you. If she does not know how to look for information or does not want to do the leg work then forget it as operating the restaurant will be too much for her.

KISS. I always get the feeling they hate the customers. Very unfriendly.
There are so many vendors walking and and aggressively peddling their stuff.
Last time there I felt like throwing a plate of food at the inconsiderate jerks.
Not a good atmosphere to enjoy a meal.
totaly agree with you paul
after every bite of food someone asking you to buy something
can never enjoy what your eating
