  1. " I have observed a certain species of street vendor who push a small hand cart/trolley up and down the local Sois selling a variety of towels. They appear to range in price from 20 baht for a small tea towel up to around 150 baht for a jumbo beach towel."

I think that the people doing this kind of work are lucky to earn a "profit" of B100 to B150 for a day's work. Is that kind of money worth your wife's time and effort? Assuming that taking care of your house and you do not take up her full day (they should of course take up a reasonable part), I think that her time and effort would be much better spent doing volunteer work at a local school or hospital, and would not make her stand out so openly as needing (probably not true, but that is what her friends and family would think) to do that kind of rather demeaning work. I have never seen the Thai wife of a farang sell from a push cart, and I do think that in most cases it would embarrass the husband as well as the wife. If a venture is not worth investing in (renting) a store front, it is probably not worth doing.

    agree 100%

  4. You may be thinking of Simon's Soi 5 Jomtien. If so forget it. Standards have dropped. Not sure if Simon even owns it anymore.

The best hot pie place is a hole in the wall between Soi 7 and Soi 8 on Beach Road. Pasties to die for. Not sure if they do pork pies.

yeah i agree go there when in that area good pies been there a long time now

  7. syd - Save the Golly bar has been around for a couple of years - went to their opening party - but it was in the area between 2nd road and Soi Buakaow. Not sure if same owners.

Interesting! I guess it must have moved. It's funny I've never heard of it or seen it before in Pattaya.

Can you remember where it was before 'in the area between 2nd Road and Soi Buakaow'?

  11. You will never find anything in Thailand that will compare with the real thing back home in Blighty..

And please keep the Tartar sauce away... it dont belong on fish and chips.

Salt & Vinegar and some red sauce..

Accompanied by some proper english bread with plenty of butter on.. "chip butty"

well said mate sounds like home

  12. And I will make sure, in future, I do not tip any of the male staff while he is still working there. If the other male staff give me any quizzical looks, I will explain it to them. Never had a problem in 3 years with the other staff.

Singling out all the male employees because of one? I fail to grasp the logic in this at all. If you were going to punish the staff, which is, IMO, a foolish move, why only the men? Why not all of them?

I've seen some interesting conclusions on ThaiVisa over the years, but I gotta say, this one takes the cake.

Bold should have been female staff, but not to worry.

Maybe because the female staff have never ripped me off in 3 years of going there. In fact they have been very helpful previously on sorting out any problems. Discrimination? Maybe. Not the 1st time I've had problems with male staff there and money and service. But I tip every time and it is my tip to give to whom I wish. OK?

And I don't care what you think, or if it takes the cake :)

    well said mate
  13. YEAH HER CUSTOMERS WERE MAINLY FROM THE HOSPITAL

    SO MAINLY THAIS

60 FOR 500 WAS ABOUT RIGHT

BUT THEY DONT JUST BRING 60 OF ANYTHING

MOST WOULD BRING ALL SHIRTS OR THINGS THAT TAKE A LONG TIME TO IRON

SO THEM 60 THINGS COULD TAKE ALL DAY WHICH IS NO GOOD BECAUSE THERE IS NO PROFIT

ALL I SAY IS ITS VERY HARD WORK FOR LITTLE MONEY

BUT THE THIAS DO NOT SEEM TO MIND AS LONG AS THEY GET SOMETHING

WE CLOSED IT DOWN WHEN SHE COME TO LIVE IN ENGLAND

AND WE SENT THE WASHING MACHINES AND STUFF TO HER PARENTS UP NORTH

    SO THEY CAN USE THEM

    is your caps lock jammed?

    yeah they were
