With my own problems on marriage extension, even though the mistake was mine, I thought Embassy letter needed to be in excess of 400,000, not in excess of 40,000 by 12 ie 480,000batt, I would in future only do cash in bank in Thailand
I consider I was stupid to try the income route when with my wife and I we have plenty of spare cash, but in the wrong accounts
I keep emergency fund and spare cash in my wife's name, just in case I drop dead quickly ! 1q 1

Sorry to hear that. The same happened in Turkey when I used a Bank Cheque issued in Australia; it took 5 WEEKS to 'process' and cost me £500 in lost interest, charges and fees. Cheque had to be returned to Oz bank for 'certification', then to Turkish bank in Istanbul before reaching my branch in Dalaman.
Thus my claim "Banks are pr*icks".
Take the money and run; just remember to fill in a customs clearance form in country of origin, and make a photocopy...KEEP the orib
Very interesting and terrible
I have an interesting calculation, £500 for five weeks is equivalent of £5200 per annum
You are likely to earn less than 2% PA at very best
So the capital must have been in excess of £260,000, maybe even £520,000
Moving money globally by cheque is the wrong way to do it

I also have a BKK account- are you aware that they charge a fee of 2% of the cash in your Sterling account?
So far I have never been charged by BBL for keeping money sterling there

I am in the middle of an altercation with KhonKaen immigration, all I can say all the people in the office want to help
I used Embassy letter this year previous 6 yrs used 400,000 in bank, if on embassy letter needs to be 40,000 per month or 480,000 so I am told, but no Bangkok certification required, my embassy letter only showed 440,000 batt, I am in the process of getting second pension added
(Removed)
Immigration despite all the information being on the computer, want bundles of paper each year same as last year, consuming mountains of trees VERY SAD, and burdomson on the Thai staff

I am not quite sure what is happening on this thread, if i try to enter one way am blocked out by Thai govt green rectangle on whole page
Let me continue I criticise no one and respect the wishes of the thai government
I went to KK immigration this afternoon, there appears to be confusion there
I suggested as recommended on this thread, i reapply for embassy confirmation of pension, which will give pension of £41,000, i showed the letter to immigration sent ems this morning
Immigration seemed a little unrested especially when I said if necessary I would drive to Korat where our applications are approved with final approval
there were many different views by the people working in the immigration office
I made the comment if they had different views how were we to know right and wrong
I did say can we all see the immigration written rules so we may comply, but this lead up a dead end alley
I will report more when my embassy replies to me

It would appear the thread I started last night, MARRIAGE VISA EXTENSION **************************** , has suffered the green sticker being put on it
The thread related to problems on marriage visa renewal, due to lack of knowledge
There were no negative comments on the government or immigration department
There were no references to any Family or individual
It was about sharing information on what we have to do to satisfy the immigration departments, when applying for extensions, and had valuable information in there

I think immigration will work with you on it.
I think you have longer than the 15th of August since you were given a under consideration stamp with a report back date on it. Not sure but I think KK immigration starts the 30 days from the date your current extension ends which would mean you have until September 15th to get your income sorted out.
Thanks yes my passport is stamped under consideration, report back Sept 14,I note and appreciate your input; but will try and do by Aug 15
I have also stacked my thai batt account this morning just in case I had to do 60 day extension, so would be able to show 400,000 plus for two months
Oh to the joys of living in Thailand

Thai Visa forum can and often does work well, thanks everybody
Some Observations
My original statement from my embassy pension was stated gross
My expiration date is August 15
New letter to embassy has already been sent EMS, this will show pensions at 4 times required amount, hope it will be back before Aug15
Have meeting with immigration this afternoon, will request time to remedy until Aug 15
I doubt immigration can do too much to me until Aug 15
IF my embassy letter not back by then, have to do 60 day extension, but would prefer not to use this; as can only be used once on existing ORIGINAL entry
Lets not forget that KK immigration also made the same mistake, by accepting my application
I go immigration this afternoon, will stay very cool, and watch this space

I am appreciative of the good advice, I believe the problem is not actually the exchange rate, that has of course moved badly since Brexit, but the fact I thought the embassy letter had to show 400, 000 , BUT apparently if on income basis at 480,000 and not cash in bank400,000 then i am outside
I do have a couple of thousand UK pounds in a sterling account with Bangkok, if they will allow this to be aggregated then I would be OK
I am not sure I can get another letter in time from the UK Embassy
The 1.0 m i have put in my wifes name in her bank account will not count !!
I will by lunchtime Wednesday have 500,000 in my savings account but of course the two months will not have passed
May have to do 60 day extension while money seasons, then reapply marriage extension
I am so angry at myself I got it wrong, each time I go to immigration I dread it, and I try so hard to get it all right
I spend 2.0/3.0M Batt plus here each year, and do contribute to Thailand, I support a wife her two children, her parents and two or three workers from the local village, but then if I do not like it I can leave, and am seriously thinking about it

Khon Kaen Immigration
I have just been advised by KhonKaen Immigration that my marriage extension,( Submitted, checked and agreed as correct in KhonKaen last week is NOW being held up) because my Embassy letter says UK pension GBP 9740 per annum, which at todays rate is thai Batt 447,400, they are saying I do not have enough, 1GBP=45.9343THB
Immigration are now are saying I need 480,000, or 40,000 per month
I have other pensions I did not ask the Embassy to certify as I believed they had sufficient,to satisfy the immigration requirement
I also have other cash outside thailand, but requires two months to season
I have done 5/6 marriage extentions, but in the past always done cash in the bank here,This is the first year I use embassy letter, because I am now keeping spare cash in my wifes account as my health has not been good we have around 1,000,000batt but of course in the wrong name
I am so stressed out on this, I try so very hard to do exactly what they require
CAN ANYONE PLEASE SHED ANY LIGHT ON THIS OR GIVE ADVICE ? ? ?
I need to find agent in KhonKaen to do on my behalf, I am happy to pay them to submit my application on my behalf

Whenever we travel in thailand normally my wife uses her ID card to check in (for wife and husband)while I gently relax taking luggage out of car, so normally no one asks for my passport
-
I am a Bank Bangkok customer, we have in Thailand at Bank Bangkok a sterling account, we transfer to BBL in London and no intermediaries costs, we loose about 500 batt when money arrives in Thailand
We can then sell online and credit our Thai batt account as and when we choose works well

I typically tip between 15% and 20% of the total bill, but if the service is not on par than they can expect to not be tipped at all.
I generally establish what the locals do and expect
In the USA tipping is high
In europe much lower
So in thailand a few Batt is acceptable, 15 to 20 % is just plain daft and add to expectations
I do not tip airplane captains
Some yacht captains earning 200,000 plus usa dollars expect tips

Remember this is thailand and zero tolerance, unless you can buy your way out! !
I say to people if you want to play with drugs; leave Thailand first, I like a little weed from time to time but NOT in Thailand
In the USA some low category drugs/ Marijuana are now legal; and I understand personal consumption may not be prosecuted in the UK
IN THAILAND NO WAY IN SOME OF THESE COUNTRIES POSSESSION CAN BE GIVEN THE DEATH SENTENCE
Do not drink and drive in the UK, Thailand however more lenient, but I hope that changes

OH well here we go
Never heard this sort of discussion on my home country, I am 71 been retired some 20 plus years, made my own money
I could not live anywhere as well in most of the rest of the world
What do I really not like, well the moaning and complaining brigade on thai visa, generally made up of the have nots, and want what you got!!
I expect I will get flack and static for this comment but my honest views, if I were the ruling Dictator anyone who posts negative three times would be taken to the boarder and escorted out, no reentry

Well nice topic
Waste I have a big problem here, always have had, but was born in the time of rationing
Even when we go to buffet restaurants I tell my wife to request those there to only take what they can eat, and by all means keep going back until you are full
In normal restaurants I ask my wife not to over order, if I forget she will, I am always happy to order more food if we have not got enough
But then what is the difference between wasting money and food, not a lot, and I would guess those who like to over order are not good with their money as well
I try to be fair sensible and careful, a fool and his money is easily parted

Sad news, but to survive in Thailand you need be street wise
Keep your passport and credit cards yourself
If someone else gets the visa work permit in your passport check it correct yourself with immigration
AND PLEASE do not right a wrong with an illegal act the consequences could be horrendous, don't even think about it, your penalty of one year ban could be far worse
JUST put it down to experience !! be lucky stay happy

Sell nothing in the UK, come for six to twelve months, if all goes well if you need the cash sell up in the UK otherwise just continue staying with UK options not closed
-
Yes does sound a bit outrageous
So solution is read the rules very carefully and make sure you comply fully the first time, and if not understanding fully the requirement then use professional advice to assist
-
While on marriage extension, if using Embassy to verify income, what is the maximum time prior to the extension expiring that the embassy letter can be dated

I have generally had good experiences in Thailand, yes I get frustrated at paper work sometimes, I do my best to be law abiding, and expect to be punished if I am not
If we follow the logic of not punishing over stay, then why should we punish the person who gets drunk, which can happen unintentionally then drives a car and kills someone
Remember we also choose to be here , we have no rights to vote, if you do not like it, stop complaining and get the hell out, no one will stop you

A few months ago a friend returned to the USA only to have her green card confiscated at immigration on the way into the USA because she had been out too long, (her green card was still valid) remember most countries are not as easy going on people who break the rules, as is Thailand, was granted a normal tourist entry
I am not sure of the exact rules but once you have held a green card long enough you can get a USA passport and then come and go as you wish, I had an Israeli wife who did this sucessfully
