There is also regular boat service to Koh Lanta from Phuket. I've heard it's a pleasant trip.

Not sure but the service probably somewhat seasonal.

There are many deals around. Kata is very nice too. Great restaurants.

Just be careful out swimming in the ocean. The currents can be rather strong.

You can make much more money teaching english in china.

You can live in Phuket on 30000 bht a month but you wont enjoy many western comforts.

Living like a thai person you will be fine. You will have to live in Phuket town and shop in local markets and not drink.

Patong isn't overtly gay per say. Though from some of the posters on this forum you might get that impression.

Patong is an adult disneyland where everything and anything is possible!

In answer to the OP. I would not use the term 'Paki' because of the risk that it could offend somebody. It is no great hardship not to use it. I would also immediately stop using the term 'Aussie' if I thought that it would cause offense. Again no great hardship. I fail to understand why anybody would use potentially hurthful terms such as 'Paki' unless they enjoy causing insult. It has nothing to do with what these terms originally meant but rather their how people react to them today.

You probably enjoy homogenized milk as well.

By most accounts, the Chinese are becoming larger in your rear view mirror in all of these categories, largely due to the opposite ideology.

Save yourself the trouble and when you have a hunger for good indian food buy a ticket to KL or Penang.

Screw the indian and paki pricks here in Phuket.

With all the east Indians here you would think they'd have at least one good restaurant. But NOOOO!. You will be disappointed.

Bangkok does have a small handful of decent Indian restaurants.

The middle eastern restaurants aren't much better they are rancid coakroach infested venues.

With the influx of so many East Indian and middle eastern visitors you might think someone could remove their head from their a$$ and provide a decent restaurant.

I went to the best so called indian restaurant in Patong. All I ordered was dhal and rice to test it out. It made me sick! <deleted>!!! how can you screw up dhal and rice? Unless you simply don't freaking care.

And that my impression from most local east indians and middle easterners here is that they don't care!

. Parlai Seafood used to be good years ago, but, is now resting on it's laurels, though it's still cheap.

I just ate at Parlai Seafood yesterday and the food is still good. Been eating there for years and only rarely have I seen quality waver.

I go once a week. The fresh oysters are the best.

Depends on your definition of good, what you get out of 'something fishy' is far below what i would call 'poor', never mind 'good'... depends on your tastes i guess.

Also i'd have to recommend 'Fatties' for good steak/meat based dishes, much cheaper than swiss delight and similar quality (and larger portions!)

I heard "something fishy" has a new owner. Went once shortly after the original owner opened and it was ok.
