I don't care about being relatively "poor". I care about the fact that my initially THB49 000 pension has shrunk to THB 42 000 over the last 7 years and don't fancy being forced to go back home or do all sorts of (expensive) fancy semi-legal manoeuvres to get extensions in my dotage.
When I retired I was guaranteed only one thing. My pension rate was fixed but all other costs (mostly health) would continue to go up.
Add to that the fluctuation of currency rates and exchange fees and you have the recipe for a continuing lower standard of living.

If you want a place that has freelancer girls, the big restaurant over the sea, beside the sewage plant near Walking Street
That's not painting a very pretty picture for first time visitors to Thailand.

I'd say 1,000 a day or 30K THB a month should get you what you seek.

Yes I realise that, I am more concerned with potential problems at the point of embarkation
A bottle of hand cleaner opened in my pocket and damaged my passport fairly well. I was given a bucket full of grief at the Manila airport about it when leaving the PI. Upon arriving at the USA the immigration officer said the passport was OK but to insure no problems in the future I might consider replacing it which I did.
Yes, having a damaged passport may cause issues at the departing airport for international flights.

You could probably sue them and they would be fined for not paying SS but in the end you might get fired. But then you can sue them for again.
Suing the university? They have "deep pockets" but good luck.

I brought the bulk of my meagre funds over at a very favourable rate but that was just a matter luck and circumstance. I really don't know what the rate will look like in 5 or 10 year's time.

Where's the pointing? at least our CCTV works! most times something happens here it's 'broken' or 'under maintenance'.
The video doesn't look to be as if it's a CCTV. It looks ground level and taken by someone with the Thai couple. It's clearly designed to focus on them specifically and got their reaction upon discovering the theft.

Sounds like you ought to move out and leave the Misses there too.
That'll teach em.
I'm not surprised the Op's Missus dismissed the whole matter. It's common I think that a Thai lady figures it's better to just leave it alone.

Please get a clue or better glasses, I'm not looking for some budget online crap.wcoast you have that wrong me thinks. BritManToo actually gave you very good information. If you spend a few minutes to investigate ZenniOptical.com you may be pleased with the results.
Or you can always visit your local optical shop and pay 12 - 15,000 for the same thing.
Good luck.

This scanning of our fingerprints is so disgusting. For most of my life - decades and decades - it has always been only CRIMINALS who have their fingerprints taken.
I fully understand and appreciate your disgust. This planet entered a new chapter after 9-11 happened. Prior to that I believe I could actually see a friend off at the boarding gate of an airline and not be left at the entrance to TSA.
It'd be one thing if it stopped with just the airlines but now security is becoming more and more a major part of our everyday lives. We've passed the time in history where security will no longer be an overriding factor.

I am resting in the morning and the evening when I take my readings.
A cardiologist I was seeing told me instead of taking a BP reading, simply go for a walk to exercise.

What are the prices now, when it first opened they seemed very hight 2,3,4000 !!
I found this on an agency site. You're correct they're on the high side. The show lasts 70 - 90 minutes depending on which site you read.
The ticket office told us until the end of July the early show tickets could be bought for 900. ฿ if bought in person but if bought through an agency there's no option to choose which seat you want @ the 900. ฿ price
Ticket prices
The theatre is divided into four seating zones. Ticket prices at the D’LUCK theatre are:
AdultChildSky zone฿ 2,500฿ 1,500Ocean zone฿ 3,000฿ 1,800Cloud zone฿ 3,000฿ 1,800Star zone฿ 4,000฿ 2,400 -

There are other brands ........... When I came I had a Volvo 244 (yes, some distant past) which was not a fit car for this climate as assembled in Sweden at that time. Then I had a Toyota Crown, the dealership screwed me after they had the "booking money" of Baht 20K; arrived with seven months delay "solly Sil". A BMW was next; got tailgated and waited five months for spares. Then, a very exotic Opel came; that car spent more time at P.S.A. dealership than anywhere else as they could not find the problem (actually was an easy valve adjustment at the end). A Suzuki followed, the automatic gear box never functioned properly. A Honda was next, dealership in Pattaya = hopeless in fixing an electrical problem. Nissan sold me a CRV 18 months ago and promised an English manual which I, despite countless calls and visits, have not received until today = half the function unknown. The wife went for a Chevrolet Captiva = see gearbox issue which never got solved and we finally had to get a new automatic gear box. Ford is the latest brand, to this day I was unable to get an extra replacement key from Ford (as they cannot cut keys despite B 5300+ for the disassembled key) = got a copy.
In short, it has to do with the after sales; once the money is with them then you're history. They have not the faintest idea of customer service, latter being an attitude and not a department. But it will take light years for these ignorant idiots to understand .........Your experiences are really disappointing to hear, Sydebolle. Obviously you're not talking about a one off event. It really addresses a fairly common denominator often found at dealerships in Thailand. Everyone else may have different experiences but yours is a nightmare one to me for sure.
I honestly don't look forward to the next car purchase I make in Thailand if it's anything like my last one which hardly compares to your's.
At least I'll be better prepared mentally to expect the kind of things I encountered such as little to no concern about customer satisfaction and likely zero car knowledge.
As long as I remain in Thailand it's a guarantee I'll have to go through it again but I hope I can stay satisfied for a few more years with what I have now.

She says “let me drive, you danger”, She drives in the middle of the road at 100kms and overtakes on crests and corners and can’t reverse and says many accidents she see are many Falang not know how to drive.
As a public service, before she goes anywhere you should post her route online to warn others.????????????

That might be because you're in Thailand and probably 99 per cent of the people watching it are Thai. Just a guess. I'm glad that you know how to drive, but I hope you also realise that it is not solely about how you drive but much more about how the maniac suicide locals drive as well.
If they lose control (as they do), or fall asleep (as they do) or pull out right in front of you without looking (as they do), or come at you at full speed on your side of the road while overtaking (as they do), or jump a red light (as they do), then it matters very little if you know how to drive. Because they don't, even after watching a video in their own language.
It sounds like you're describing the need for defensive driving in Thailand.

Thinking about taking the Mrs. to see this on her birthday.
Any thoughts or tips/advice from those who have already seen it?

And to add, are there any cabaret shows in Pattaya that are not ladyboy shows?
