  1. Looking forward to going for a beer at the soi 8 on Friday. In my opinion and many of my drinking pals it is without doubt the best run pub on the lower suk area. Many pub/bar owners could do well to follow the example. :)

Have to agree with you on that, it is an excellent pub which I have always enjoyed going to, that and The Crossbar to me are proper drinking pubs, with decent owners who make a point of getting to know their cutomers. Much better than the plastic pubs that pop up around town.

I also believe that Soi 8 is well worth frequenting, and when all's said and done, I think that Dave will be very pleased that the OP raised the complaint.

Without actually counting the score, it has to be about 12 to 1 in favour of Soi 8; best free advertising you could ever hope for.

  2. 'Get someone to write in Thai you a sign on a white card "Mai ow Kap" '

Any chance of someone on ThaiVisa, who has access to a Thai type-font, spelling "Mai ow Kap" out in Thai and posting it here so it could be printed in bold type?

  3. So if she is a farang and gets mugged at an ATM, then its a blight on Thailand. But if she is a Thai with 10,000 baht then she's a whore! You people amaze me! So what if the story is false, she got mugged. 3 of these all over Bangkok in the last few days, one woman fighting for her life... show a bit of respect!

Gentlemen ... and in most cases I use the term very loosely,

One of the responses (above) refers to a friend of mine, Dougie Riach, who was told two days ago that the life support machine which was keeping his wife alive was to be switched off, and that his wife would then be allowed to die naturally. This is the lady who had had her bag snatched last week by being pulled to the ground by motorcycle bagsnatchers, with the tragic outcome that she was left in a coma.

I think it is dispicable for any of you to twist these stories in the way that you do. Leave the victims alone. If you have nothing better to do than cast asperions on innoent victime of crime, then I feel sorry for you.

I am signing off from TV permanently as I have no further desire to listen to any of your shit!

  4. Varies, just go to three or four banks and see what they want.

    ok thanks!

but is it simple or hard to get a small loan for a car?

Most banks demand that you have a "Thai guarantor"; however, I succeeded in getting 65% finance on a new Honda Civic from Tisco Bank without such a guarantor.

  5. Don't kill the ants its pointless, you needs to kill the queen.

Use bait traps where they collect the poisoned food and feed it to the Queen.

I agree that the poisoned food traps are the winner.

I recently used a brand called 'ARS Ant Killer'. You will find it in most supermarkets next to the cans of bug sprays. Comes in an opaque green plastic rectangle (about 50mm x 30 mm) mounted on a piece of card.

Just empty the contents of the small sachet into the opaque container close to where the problem is. I watched with interest as this mass attack of ants rushed in to pick up the small granules and take them back to the nest. The next day, not an ant in sight! Jing jing!

  6. What about a new King Power Duty Free Mall?

    Now ya talking!!!

    BR>Jack

They should shut down all these hundreds of tiny little container parks surrounding residential areas and relocate all container traffic to Don Muang! By providing a dedicated road link to the Port they could then solve two problems at once, the need for massive container storage space and relief of major traffic congestion throughout many of the city's residential areas!

  7. Hi all,

Despite having lived in Bangkok for the best part of six years and a regular visitor (non-member) to the TV website, I recently decided to sign up so that I might make the odd comment.

I just couldn't help but wonder how the vendor in this case would deal with the situation where a farang contacts him saying that he had just seen the bike advertised at Bt250,000, but of course, he would expect to be able to haggle the price down from there.

How does he assume every farang will take up a bargaining position starting from the higher price?

    Just my two-penny worth!

  8. He has a bottom line he will go to and I bet it would be the same if a Thai or foreigner made the offer, with maybe just a touch of local discount for his own.

So then why wouldn't he just advertise it as 290K everywhere and dole out discounts where appropriate?

Maybe because with a higher price he would frighten off most Thais, but not the hard bargaining foreigners. I guess. Thais know that Thais don't like to say 'no' and they don't like to be told 'no' also. Confrontation is a no no. That old loosing face syndrome rears it's ugly head again.

    regards Bojo
