  1. Thinking of going out to watch the football at 700 year stadium on Saturday but have never been out there before. What's the best way of getting out there from town (don't have own wheels), and do you need to buy a ticket in advance?

Even better, if there's a group of Thavisa people going out as a group and don't mind an extra tagging along I'd be keen to do that.

  3. Hi folks

Any personal recommendations for a reliable transfer from a yet to be selected BKK airport hotel to Hua Hin? (Yes I have tried the search function, its not terribly enlightening).

I've had too many white knuckle experiences over the years in Thailand, so someone sane, not smoking, drunk or on drugs or working to an impossible deadline, driving a clean comfortable aircon car with seatbelts and some thread on the tyres would be great!

  4. Thanks everyone for the very useful feedback...I'm now thinking about an apartment in either the Twin Peaks or Peak Gardens condos- can anyone tell me if there is any downside to that location? (I gather there is also some litigation currently going on involving the previous Japanese owners?)

  5. We are returning for another month in CM in late November. Last time we stayed in a good apartment behind Wat Chiang Mun. The only downside was the noise from the guest house next door, particularly the loud TV in the open air lobby (and yes I did ask them politely if they could turn it down- that lasted about half an hour). We had a look at Kantary Hills for this trip, but have heard that there is construction going on at present next door. Can anyone confirm whether this is the case? Are there enough restaurant/cafe/market options in the Nimmanhaemin area to keep us interested for a month, or would we soon be wishing we were closer to town? (I appreciate its only an 80-100 baht tuk tuk ride away).

  6. Umm, what I was really talking about was the burn off related to the cultivation cycle, not how the neighbours choose to get rid of their garbage....which can be pretty much any anywhere, anytime (or all the time) problem I guess ( my neighbour a couple of years ago here in suburban Canberra tried to save tip fees by burning an old mattress in his backyard...the City Rangers came and hosed it down, and then he had an old, wet and charred mattress to get rid of and it served the cheap arsed bastard right!)

  7. Hi Folks

I realise that this field has been well trod on this forum, but I'm looking for some definitive advice on when best to spend a month in CM within the period Dec-Mar without running into smoke haze (all my previous visits have been June through September). I've read in some places that the problem doesn't emerge until late February, but some posts here complain of smoke haze in early January. What do you guys think?

  8. We had a fairly good look around at apartment options in CM when we were there earlier this year, as planning for another extended stay. The only one we saw which we thought 5 star class was Kantary. Local advice suggests getting a room away from a noisy local pub/disco, but I can't remember which side of the building it faced.

  9. Tripadvisor is based in the USA, linked to Expedia. It has recently gone through a major change of emphasis on the commercial side of the site, which has alienated a lot of regular users like myself. However, the hotel reviews (if approached with caution) are quite useful, and the forums excellent. The restaurant and hotel ratings however are rubbish.

  10. On the vexed question of the veg thali, the owner told me they'd be doing it at lunchtime in the peak season...ate there again tonight and very good it was too...particularly the nan and the eggplant curry.

  11. Both the TAT and the CM Tourist Office told me to my face that the event was cancelled...however, this is Thailand...they also gave me some numbers to ring for the organisers

    66 (0)53-498423 or 66 (0) 53-353174

Maybe a Thai speaker could ring and confirm what is happening?
