  1. I don't think being able to hold his drink is the problem. He needs medical treatment urgently as it sounds like he is very much the alcoholic,
  2. Last year I applied to extend my Married to Thai one year visa with the appropriate mountain of paperwork and "she who must be obeyed" with me. at Samui Immigration. Everything was fine until the Officer in the right hand Office said, "you havn't deposited any money in your Bank today!" I had already deposited the mandatory 40,000 baht for that month, which was recorded both in my Bank Book and the Bank Letter, but she said that was not good enough. I was about to blow a fuse, but my lovely calm Thai Wife said, "go have a coffee and I will be back in 15 minutes". Which she was and the application was accepted by the Officer behind the desk. My view is this was an attempt for us to pay extra for the Visa, which I refuse to do. I think next time I will refer the case to Bangkok Immigration for advice?
  3. It is both a lack of education and idleness of the parents who feel it is okay to send their children on errands on motorbikes.
  4. I agree with you whole heartedly. There seems to be an element of people on this forum who I would describe as "well balanced".. They have a chip on both shoulders! Issue of a Visa is a privilege, not an entitlement. If you are unhappy about the County's Laws, I would suggest that you don't come here - simple!
  5. Due to smoking cannabis my Grandson developed bi-polar mental illness, which if he does not take his prescribed medication regularly, comes back to haunt him and he gets sectioned in a hospital. There are different strengths of cannabis and sadly few people are aware of this and that contrary to what this person has written, it can have a detrimental effect on some people, which can be very long lasting. Further research needs to be done on this drug before Governments give it the blessing for consumption by everyone.
  6. There is a District in NE India already called Nagaland and officially so. How wonderful to have so many (un)educated people!
  7. Many thanks for your clarification, much appreciated! I notice that one person says they are happy to look up the hotel on the various websites and then arrive and go and look for them. This only works if you have a location and of course Google Map can be very helpful, but if you mention Google Map on any of these websites, that part of the message will be blocked by the website, understandable. You are also absolutely right that some website charges are exorbitant, which is rather sad during this period of recovery when many have either received no bookings at all or have reduced the prices by as much as 60% to attract the few Tourists who are still traveling. I don't think that Thailand Tourist Industry will fully recover until 2024, if then!
  8. You may find that quite an expensive option as they add nearly 20% commission to the Owner's rates. PM me and I might be able to help both with rental and purchase. I went down the same route you are thinking of by purchasing and building and putting the property in your Thai Wife's name. In the end, we built six rental units and turned it into a little Resort, which handsomely compliments the various pensions I have, also once I leave this mortal earth, my lovely Wife has an ongoing income, either to continue running it or by selling it. The value of the land alone has increased more than 300% since purchasing it 16 years ago. Delighted to help if I can. David.
  9. During World War 2 Thailand initially sided with the Germany/Japan, and sent a declaration of War to the USA. Shortly after sending the declaration Thailand changed it's mind and decided to side with USA/UK et al. I believe that the initiative for this change was the realization that it would not be a power sharing situation with Japan, but more of an occupation force.
  10. Thailand, you want thousands of Tourists, you must, must stop this xenophobia, otherwise your Tourists will go to where they are more welcome.
  11. My Thai Wife says the more staff employed in a Government Department, the more back-handers the boss gets for them to be considered for promotion! Corruption personified?
  12. I understand that this is because of a dispute between the Ferry Owners and the local authorities, whereby the Owners were not allowed to increase the fares. Why the local authority should be allowed to interfere with the business of a private company is unethical, unless of course the increase was outrageously big.
  13. I would be interested to find out what the uptake is on scheme? Not too many is my thoughts. Maybe if they dropped the investment sum to £500,000 or 20,000,000 baht there might be a marked uptake.
  14. I don't think so, have you seen the commission that Booking.com charges already? Very nearly 20% for each booking! However, I don't think any of the booking platforms could cope with dual pricing as they are not constructed that way. The really sad thing is, the word is already out and many Tourists will now be looking at coming to Thailand with a very jaundiced eye and it might just be the tipping point for them to book elsewhere, just when there are the seeds of a recovery in the Tourism Industry. A poorly thought out, xenophobic idea that will be viewed by many as immature and damaging to the Thai Tourism Industry.
  15. Often, when we go shopping, my Thai Wife and I will browse round the store and then decide what we would like to buy, I then leave, she browses a little longer and than asks what the price is for the item and the same as Swampy999, I go and pay with a smile and a wai!
  16. Getting high class Tourists will take decades and certainly will not happen overnight just because he says so. Also "respect" needs to be earned and Thailand is not quite there yet with all the infrastructure issues that need to be addressed. Of course Hotels and the like are offering discounts, that's called business. Sadly this Gentleman, who is known for being xenophobic, also has a reputation for engaging mouth before brain.
