  1. Personally I find all those repeating negative, synical and off topic cliché reactions a very annoying thing on Thaivisa. Why do this frustrated old men want to live here anyway, just for their cheap beer ?

It‘s pathetic to post the same tone of responses in every random topic, this is Thailand and you know it.

Posting your opinion is not obligatory, if you'd think so.

    Send from my Asus FONEPAD

So............ when someone states that the track was in need of upgrading... and still they risk peoples lives by still using it, you think it is about cheap beer ......or maybe cheap human life?

  2. Just the financial paperwork - they may want wife to sign a paper that she understands the change in your status due to joint property provisions of Thai law but once done it will just be you and very easy/immediate extension each year.

    Lopburi3,

That almost sounds to simplistic. I take in my bank-signed bank statement plus a printout of my bank account, a TM7, a signed statement from my wife -- and all is good. I've dealt with immigration too many time over the last 5 year. It sounds too simple. Do you know of any "official links" that explains in detail the procedure? I've been to immigration before where I had to come back multiple times because different officials wanted different paperwork. I'll be doing this in Chiang Mai in the March / April timeframe. But I like planning ahead. Are you sure that is the only paperwork needed. I'd rather have too much paperwork than not enough.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

Dont know about Chiang Mai, but at end of this month I will be doing my 4th retirement extension.

As usual here in kanchanaburi I will take

1/ British Embassy letter confirming my required income.

    2/ 3 5x4 cm photos

3/ signed copies of every passport page and departure card.

4/ Medical certificate (50 baht from local clinic)

It would appear that some immigration offices do not ask for a medical certificate, I have always been asked.

I have not had any problems with my application thus far.

I hope the same applies to you, should you choose this method.

  3. Update..................

Downloaded application for proof of residence, sat and filled in two, then off I trot to Kanchanaburi immigration safe in the knowledge that my chosen motorbike would soon be mine.

I was right to assume that all would not go to plan.

The same lady was on duty......

Sawasdee Krap says I ...I have filled in these forms so that I can take to my local Honda garage and buy my motorcycle, and also use one to get a motorcycle license, I have one for my car, but better to get motorcycle too.

We dont do these anymore Mr .... came the reply, I told you already you have to go to amphur with house owner and get letter.

I smiled but thought to myself ..... Shall I tell her that all the dealer will accept is an immigration letter.

I bid her good day in my best Thai, and left thinking ...... I feel like Wiley Coyote must feel when he tries so hard to catch Road Runner and no matter how hard he tries it always eludes him.

Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions.... does anyone know a good place for a hair transplant, I seem to have pulled all mine outw00t.gif

What Honda dealer did you go to that only wanted the Immigration letter?

I got my bike from the Honda dealer right in the middle of town between TMB and the large pizza restsurant. They will accept a letter from your local amphur.

  5. Sounds like a simple communication mix up - the dealer didn't specifically refer to it as a Certificate of Residence and the immigration officer didn't realise that was what was being asked for.

If the OP doesn't have one already it might be worth getting 2 certs if he needs to apply for a driving licence as well.

I think you may be right.

Thanks to you all for your help.

  6. I am hoping that someone can help me with this.

Having recently finished a relationship, I am trying to buy a new motorcycle that I want to be in my name.

I have been here in Thailand now for 6 years and currently have a retirement extension to my "O" visa.

It would appear that this is not as straightforward as you would think.

I went to my local Honda dealership and chose my bike, I presented my passport, together with a signed contract in my name for the house that I rent, and even took an envelope from the UK embassy addressed to me at my rented address.

Not good enough it seems, I was told that I needed a letter from my local immigration (Kanchanaburi) stating that I live where I do.

I went the next day and awaited my turn, only to be be curtly told no we do not do a letter for that.

I returned to the dealer, and explained the situation, they would not sell me the bike without this letter.

Has anyone experienced the same, or maybe I have picked the wrong officer on a bad day.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  7. I will say this...

I have lived here in Thailand for six years now.

I will also say I have been with my Thai girlfriend for the same time.... we are a couple...

Three years ago my dad aged 90, was diagnosed with bowell cancer, I wanted her to meet him before he passed away.

Many applications and cost later My country said no..... no reason ... just no....

My girlfriend has family , children here, I am more than able to take of her as was stated in my application...I live here in Thai I want to come back.............. They refused her.... Thank you England....

    He died 2 years ago.

I am still with my girlfriend.

Hard to explain why she was not allowed to meet my dad.

I regret ever having been born there.........

  8. It would appear that requirements vary at different immigration offices.

Here in Kanchanaburi I am on my third retirement extension and each time they have wanted a medical certificate, which costs 50 baht for a 30 second yes/no session followed by a quick listen to my chest.

they have only asked me for proof of accomodation once.

When the time comes for a visit I try to have everything ready, but always go a couple of weeks before necessary in case I have to return with something missed or added to list of rerquirements.

  9. Hi

I live in Kanchanaburi, and have played most of the courses here, my personal favorite is Nichigo.

Milford river Kwai usually have some good deals and is probably the least expensive to play, be warned however it is very hilly, one particular hole is like walking up a cliff face... not for the unfit.

One you haven't mentioned is at Srinakarin dam it is on the area of the dam itself , a good challenging course and very picturesque.

not sure about accomodation there but I know they have at Milford.

Hope the above helps and have a great day wherever you decide.

  10. On my 50 km ride back from Mukdahan city to the village where I am living and working I saw 3 police checkpoints today. At the first one they stopped me to fine me for not wearing a helmet. When I opened the seat of my motorcycle the ploiceman saw my helmet under the the seat and asked me why I am not wearing it. I told him, that I had been wearing in the city area - but took it off later (that was true!). He checked my passport, my driving licenses (everything ok with it) and started to talk about New Year's Eve, many accidents and so on and on ....

I told him about my job as English teacher in my village about 30 km further on and about the sports day together with the provincial governour the day before - and it worked. He remided me to put on the helmet right now - and send me further on back home ... without any fine. Lucky me that day.

But - infront of the law all people should be treated in the same way! Good for me to be able to talk in Thai to him, to mention my job and the governour - but this is not the way it should be!

BTW - the next 2 checkpoints were abandoned ...

Some people would say that a teacher should be setting a good example, especially to their students.

Wearing a helmet is one such example.

And not trying to gain advantage by citing knowledge of someone in a so called respectable position is another.

  11. When are these criminals going to realise - they cannot hide in Pattaya no more!!

Probably when they cannot hide in Pattaya no more. Funny how that works.

So................... it seems he stated that he decided to undergo therapy.

then lo and behold he turns up in Pattaya.

    Therapy............................................

I suppose in a perverse sort of way thats how he sees it.

  12. It would appear , like many government departments here that requirements vary from office to office.

here in Kanchanaburi I needed a medical certificate before I could get my retirement extension ( 40 baht and takes about 30 seconds at a local clinic)

Also I returned to my home country about one month into a 90 day period, I returned about 1 month later, and, being unsure as to which date to report (the date on the form given to me at immigration, or a new date 90 dats after my return to Thailand):

I was told that the date on the form, 90 days after my last reporting, was the one which should be used.

I do wish that such important details were standardised at some central department and then sent to all offices nationwide.

Sorry if I have caused more confusion, just throwing in my 5 pence worth.

  13. It would appear not just TOT.

I am using a previously very fast test torrent on U torrent It is very very slow now

    I am with 3BB

    Something is going on.

I am being totally blocked by Pattaya TOT for all torrents from a membership type torrent site I'd rather not mention, since last night. Other torrents going OK so far, but I think very slow. Something is going on with TOT, that's for sure.

  14. No doubt they will get off very lightly, as seems to be the way of things in Thailand.. Punishment rarely fits the crime!

Are you talking from personal experience? What crime did you commit in Thailand and what insufficient punishment did you get?

He is right in a way. Crimes like this are rarely considered as a 'robbery'. More often it is a 'fraud' which is much lighter crime.

  15. How did he get into the country? How did he leave Aust? I know this guy and have had dealings with him in Aust and he is on a register. Ok not getting personal and say no more.......

    22 yrs policing

    Moe town .

    Thank you.

The first bit of circumstantial I have seen so far.

    No smoke without fire.

Lets hope that the Thais get every bit of info from Aus.

It may just help them come to the right decision.

  16. Bike gangs have a loyalty, that few of us can understand, to the group. If you cause any offence to the group or it's patch, any of the members or their families then you will be a target.

So if you have a problem with one of the members it is normal you get tortured and kidnapped.Hey i have a bike where can I sign up for such an entertaining group?

    Rubbish.

People should be loyal to the law not some bike gang.

    Gang culture at its worst.
