So what will be the increase per bottle of beer?I guess that is what a lot of people would like to know.

It will not last long anyway,as soon as they find out this increase will actually make them less money they will revoke this real fast.

Well I work it out as follows, please correct me if I am wrong.

If you pay 70 baht for a 630cl  bottle of 5% beer.

Add 22 baht on the price of the bottle, then another 13.3 baht for its alcohol content.

A total increase of 35 .3 baht on its retail price.

Expect a somewhat bigger increase from the bar/restaurant owners.

If my calculations re the alcohol content are correct that is pretty hefty....

That right, it would be far to much hassle for me to attempt to own a firearm in Thailand. My wife can leave Australia with up to 4 licenced weapons under a Restricted Goods Permit. i was curious what happen upon arrival, obviously the weapons would be declared.

Or may be it would be relevant to ask Does any one actually know the price of weapons or how to obtain a price list?

    Thanks

I did look into the feasibility of my girlfriend owning a pistol maybe 6 years ago now.

I spoke to some police friends and they had a printed list of various firearms available to them, they told me it was fairly easy to arrange through them, as contacts.

From memory these weapons were not cheap.

Pistols and revolvers were available, Ruger, Glock, most common brands were listed, and , as I recall, prices started at around 60,000-70,000 baht, for a pretty basic Eastern European model.

I decided that, due to the cost, I would not take it any further.

Prices have no doubt increased since then. but if you are still considering buying here, a chat with a friendly policeman would be my suggestion.

Wow, a lot of bitter posters here today. Thailand has excellent medical facilities as compared to CLMV and certainly the affluent from these countries will welcome this. Similarly, there may be a lot of affluent retired people in the other 15 countries with monthly expenses over 100k and good health cover who will be encouraged by the 10 years visa. The foolish thing is the insistence on the 90 days reporting.

Retired people and good health cover?

You are having a laugh.....Any preexisting conditions....which are common in retirees...means no health cover.....

It's the Thai way for the Thai cowardly men...Just look at history on how the Japanese just walked right in without a fight, and all the Thai men drop to there knees. And this is what is going to happen when the Chinese take over Thailand, the men will again drop to there knees...All the Thai men need to take a good look at what is 13 year old boy is doing.

    Not strictly true....

Many Thais died repelling the first Japanese invasion of Thailand at Ao Manao in Prachuap Khiri Kan province.

They only stopped fighting when ordered to do so, by the then king

    Best time is early Saturday.

Most Thai markets sell much of the same stuff.

This one has a lot of Burmese influence.

    Well worth a visit.

Don't think one goes specificly in regards to what's sold at the market... more to soak in the ambiance so close to the boarder. At least that's why we're going.

  6. My retirement Visa will be coming up for renewal in January...... If this carries on or stays at this level I may not make the monthly earnings threshold..... Anybody else in the same boat? Any strategies out there for what to do? Any sign of Immigration being considerate / changing the rules?

I am in the same boat.....
    Always used income method.
I do not meet the threshold now at current exchange rates. I am fortunate to have some Baht savings, so will need to use combination method..
  7. Here in Kanchanaburi we have a choice of about 3 AEON A.T.M,s all in shopping malls, there is indeed a branch inside of Robinsons.

Up until about 1 month ago, I was able to use all of these machines, to withdraw up to the maximum 20,000 baht, and incur the slightly reduced 150 baht fee.

For the last month, however, all of these machines have refused my attempts at withdrawals. They accept my card take me through to the select amount option, which I enter, then I get, "invalid transaction".

I have tried to take lesser amounts, thinking the limit had been changed, with the same result.

I have a Halifax Clarity credit card (Mastercard) which was issued only a few months ago, and the same card has worked with these ATM,s before.

This card works normally with all other bank ATM,s that I have tried, since being unable to access AEON.

I have E mailed AEON head office and received what appeared a stock reply of  "our ATM,s accept all chipped credit cards"

I have also inquired as to any change of policy in the branch, "Don't know of any" was the reply.

Has anyone else been having similar problems with AEON using debit/credit cards?
