  1. Weather Radar on the blink then ! 08.34 and heavily overcast in Hang Dong. If anything it looks like more rain coming today.

It should be a better day today as the weather radar is showing the entire region clear. Yesterday it was just a yellow-green mass of Songkran subduing stuff. We ended up quitting a bit earlier but still had fun. The shivering stopped after a hot shower!

  2. it's a fine movie if your taste runs to monarchist propaganda. The Russians were losing a million men at Stalingrad turning the war against the Nazis and this guy is engaged in a heroic struggle against stuttering?

And his brother, the ex King, was busy laundering cash for the Nazi's while living in luxury as thousands of Brit's and allies were busy dying on the battlefields. But that's history; disgusting but true.

  3. The OP has to be unlucky or a story teller (attention seeker). In 60 years in England and 5 years here I have never seen anyone doing anything like this in public, but I don't hang around in dark places or dirty public toilets. Punch ups and pissing up walls yes, but never jerking off or flashing.

  4. Tsunami is a Japanese word which means, tsu = harbor, whirling, big; nami = wave. The English translation is harbor wave. The name became common after the tsunami from 2004.

Sorry old bean but the American translation is 'Harbor'. The English translation is 'Harbour'.

  5. I could have swore there was a very tiny tremor just now, probably just paranoid but will keep my trainers, passport, cash and laptop case ready just in case.

Good idea. I would recommend all foreigners keep their passport and wallet on them for the next few days, just in case (especially high-rise dwellers). It could save you a whole lot of anguish if the unthinkable happens and you manage to escape.

And if you don't manage to escape it will make it easier for the authorities to find out which pile of mincemeat you are !

  6. Speaking with some thais this morning in San Sai. They were saying they are terrified about a Tsumani hitting Chiangmai. Had to assure them that they have more chance of winning the lottery than a Tsumani hitting. They seem to think quakes and tsumani go hand in hand. I don't know who fills thier heads with all this rubbish.

    Thai logic.:whistling:

The problem is their heads are not filled with anything !

  7. Just bought a new oven....a proper one like Mum used. Will now enter a baking frenzy for Scones, Fairy Cakes and a lot of other goodies but does anyone sell Caster Sugar and /or Icing Sugar ? Can't say I've ever noticed any on the shelves.

  8. Not normal for March. Space Heaters can be bought in Mae Sai at most of the electical shops that sell water heaters and other appliances. About 1,000 thb.

Nice to have for those few days and nights when it does get cold.

There is always the hot mineral spa's :D

..and then there's other places that offer hot bathtubs.

..and then there's what you cuddle up to in bed !

  9. haha yeh I love KSK for it's character. It's got to be one of the more fun places to get lost in,wander around aimlessly and see what you can find. There's even Themed Karaoke rooms up on the 4th floor that you can drink beers and sing away until 2am. The place is great

yep... also hotel, bowling alley and cinema hallways are quite interesting and offer insight into Thai subculture

You forgot all the eye candy roaming around. :)

You don't need to be in KSK to see plenty of eye candy. If you want to gawk at the talent go somewhere with a bit of class !

  10. KSK is a dump. Surely only people who live around it would bother to shop there. Can't imagine anyone getting up and saying to the Mrs ' Shall we have a day out shopping at KSK dear ?'

As for Boots; haven't shopped with them for 20 years. They always were and always will be the most expensive no matter which country the store is in.

One of my Son's is a Manager for Super Drug in England, which is owned by Watsons. They are very hard on staff management World wide and if one or two complaints about KSK branch should be emailed to HQ in Hong Kong the staff would receive a massive kick in the anus and the Manager would probably be looking for another job.

  11. Get UBC - WETV is rubbish - you get what you pay for

    What's the deal with WETV?

I've heard people say they called up requesting such and such, so they put it on and took another off. Then someone complained so they reversed their actions etc. Sounds sort of funny to me.

I have UBC and it's worth the price (to me) just for the Premier League football coverage. I'm not sure if I would be saying the same thing if PL cover stopped.

Now and again they send out a leaflet asking you to nominate certain programs you would like to see from a pre-prepared list. Of course; the channels you would really request like BBC and CNN etc are not on the list because they say they are too expensive. By the way WETV shows Eurosport news daily and all the prem goals are shown along with all the various Euro leagues, cups etc. Channel 10 is the MU club channel and although I don't support them they do show a lot of archive material going way back to the 50's and it's very interesting to see the likes of Besty and co' doing their thing. Channel 9 or 11 also show some Chelsea and Spurs TV games so we are not starved of English football.

  12. WETV is good for the money it costs and there is still plenty of watchable material. CI was ok but too many advert breaks constantly telling us what's on next wednesday etc. Same thing applies to channel's 20&21. <deleted> do we need a red or yellow shirt channel for when they do nothing but stir the <deleted>?

  13. I worked in Ireland at regular intervals in the 70's-80's both in Cork and Dublin. Guinness is not my regular tipple but my word it does taste so much better in Ireland and leads one to want to drink more of it than one would in the UK.

  14. While we're talking about snacks; there's a young lass in Tannin Market selling cakes on a stall (not the cake shop that's there). She is selling what I reckon to be the best small chocolate cakes in Chiang Mai for only 10 baht each. Go early because they sell out fast....especially when I'm around !

  15. You can get Walkers Salt and Vinegar at Tops on the bottom floor of the Airport Plaza. Also Smith's Crinkle Cut Salt and Vinegar, Big Bag. I get my family to export the occasional Monster Munch, Pickled Oinion over, awesome.

I miss my crisps too buddy ermm.gif

Go Away ! You've made me crave for Mc Coys Cheese and Onion crinkle cuts.

  16. Best thing to do is head for Lamphun where there are enough furniture warehouses with enough L shaped sofa's for anyones lifetime. Prices are very reasonable and they will deliver free to most parts of Chiang Mai. A lot of people will tell you they charge for delivery but different warehouses have been delivering to me over a three year period and non of them ever charge. It's 'the' place to go for choice and value.

Are you talking about 'Baan Maa' or in Lamphun centre?

Baan Whatever ! I've never noticed a village name around there but it's out of town not far off the main drag.
