  1. Since only 1 truck has been photographed showing Thaksin's name, and hundreds of trucks are driving through Bangkok with aid packages without anything on them, I think it's safe to say that he has indeed donated these items.

If he wants to put his name on his donations, that's his choice. He can do that. He paid for them.

So before this gets any more ridiculous, please drop it.

But of course, the conspiracy theorists here will always find something new.

If he had indeed donated whatever, he would have made sure everybody knew about it...

  2. I been asking the gf for 2 weeks. Where is Chalerm? Before the floods, he couldn't be quietened, now he is anonymous. I mentioned in another post that I felt sorry for Yingluck, looked like she was being given the chance to sink or swim, whether out of pique or whatever by her party bigwigs

Very good point. I noticed too and asked the same question.

I think that, once all the water is gone, Yingluck will have to watch her back very carefully because the enemy will not be the opposition. It will be her own camp. And Jatuporn....have you heard of him recently?

  3. :offtopic2: CHECK THIS OUT !

    FLOODING 101 for the Amateur.

This is a huge file ,but shows some of the water that is passing and some of the different types of dikes .

About 3/4 of the way down the Page , It does take some time to Load, there are some new ideas on Flood Control Devices. Very Interesting.

    FLOOD CONTROL

It took me a few days to find this LINK , Well Worth the Time to L@@K

You may even want to pass this onto those that are in-charge of the ? Dikes ?? Dykes ? ** Barriers **

Loved the way we here in Chiang Mai Sand Bagged the River Road to protect the prestigious homes along it , only to Flood out a Hospital, back in 2005.:violin:

This years flood here was an avoid and ignore scenario for me, I guess I am learning.. hehehe

Had a good look... any of you noticed the differences between the "Canadian way" and...

Thaksin Shinawatra Talks about Flood Management

As usual, Mr Thaksin was full of ideas, particularly on how to solve Thailand's chronic water problems.

During the interview, he called for the government to invest in an integrated water management system to permanently solve inundation and drought problems.

Thaksin estimated such a system would cost up to 400 billion baht

    Continues:

    http://www.chiangrai.../news/3053.html

Wondering why he did not implement such a scheme himself when he had the opportunity, as in the position he had, he certainly couldn't ignore Thailand’s chronic water problems.

  5. They would not have to worry so much about people destroying dykes and levees and what not if they declared a state of emergency.

The state of emergency is all ready upon them now all they have to do is recognize it declare it and act on it.

Not going to happen big brother dosen't want it.

This IS the crux of the matter - Thaksin losing all he has to gain through a (phantom imaginary coup) has instructed the red shirt MP's to resist the Democrats calls for a state of emergency.

Through not involving the army to maintain civilian unrest and stop things from getting out of hand he has exacerbated the problems. He is nothing but an "agent of despair" for the Thai people if the truth be known but will the people keep on listening to and blindly follow this "self claimed messiah's" every word, of course they will!!! Their blind faith in this corrupt individual beggars belief, and he will continue to hold Thailand back and create misery for the people whilst he remains involved in Thai politics and running the show for his own benefit!!!.

Sad of course, but they only have themselves to blame and are suffering more than need be as a consequence of this foolish belief that he cares about them when he clearly doesn't!!

Another thing, does anyone think he cares about baby Yingluck who is experiencing her "personal hell"?? I for one don't, and cannot feel sorry for her as she was stupid to have listened to her brother by signing up to all of this - with his simple agenda of getting his passport back and smooth the way for his return to Thailand!!! It was doomed for the start - it is like putting someone into a grand prix car who hasn't learned to drive and expect them to compete. She hit the wall on the first corner after taking three other cars out in the process because nobody explained to her what the steering wheel was for!!!:jap:.

Fact: nobody has heard much of Tea S these last days... Would it be that the messiah has - for a change - no magic remedy to propose to "his" people?

  6. Would this include Ratchada? I need to know please thanks.

Coming in a little now at the Ratchada/Prachachuen intersection where that large canal is.. I also see it coming out of the drains as i turned onto Ratcahda rd. Fingers and toes crossed :)

wait until it starts coming into your house through the bathroom drains (assuming you're in a house or you're on the ground floor). It's like the <deleted> draino monster coming to get you ! :bah:

Which is why, if you are in an at risk area, you should have already plugged all toilets and drains on the ground floor...

    post-56035-0-34476400-1319284567_thumb.j

We're packing our bags and getting ready to leave town IF things get out of hand.

    Good luck everyone!

And HOW do you "plug" your toilets please?

  7. Just got - 13.03 pm - an SMS from FROC (Flood Relief Operations Centre).

But my handphone does not "read Thai...only but little rectangles and what I think may be a timeframe: 8.00-21.00.

Anybody out there who might have received the same message and who would know what it is all about?

    Thanks for your assistance

  8. I agree Siampolee.

Sukhumband has been the only one to emerge with any credit.

    +1 so far

    + another 1

He's had a "Fine, you do it then" moment, and I can't say I blame him.

    and another +1

I believe he's done the hell of a very good job. The PM invokes the Natural Disaster Decree to take reins...? She's now in charge!

  9. Ask the Dutch about water management. They will surely have an solution to this.

Thai people do not listen to westerners. You know that. What the world does outside Thailand does not exist to them.

They want "Thai" solutions for "Thai" problems.

If they did listen, it would require a gigantic investment and long term commitment to the largest infrastructure project this country has ever seen.

The Delta works in The Netherlands was a very expensive and long project, not to mention the Afsluitdijk.

Projects like this would cost 50% more and last twice as long here because of corruption and incompetence. They have trouble finishing roads.

The current government, like previous ones, is only interested in now and maybe tomorrow, because most cabinets do not stay much longer than 2 years.

Their first priority now is get Taksin back, second priority is filling their pockets as quickly as possible.

Yesterday, I heard that the Red Shirts say among themselves that if Taksin would be in Thailand, there would be no flooding... <deleted>

The "Delta Works" was for sure a very expensive and long term project. But it is mainly a defense system against sea floodings rather than river ones. It protects 25% of the surface of the country and its population that are located below sea level. And another 50% of the surface of the country is less than one metre above sea level...

Not quite the same problem as the one faced by Thailand.

This stated, I do agree with you that the solution would perhaps consist in a "long term" project. Such as, suggested by "an official at the Royal Irrigation Department", channeling the excess water to the drought-prone areas for instance.

But will this message be heard by the politicians in charge?

  10. This country is about to implode - Yingluck is naive and foolish, not only can she not see the writing on the wall, she's actually helping the people paint it.

I am afraid you might be right... Even though I hope you're wrong!

History repeats itself and everybody forgets: not such a long time ago, in Europe, there was a little guy who used the same sort of "tactic" to "preempt the protests from eruption". His "troops" wore brown shirts...

  11. Ultra sounds systems - not cheap - are really very efficient. If you can't find some in Thailand, either order by the net, or get some friend to bring them back from Europe for you. Other solution, but longer term:, feed them with sterilizing seeds (Ornistéril, Ovistop, Fertistop 99 ?)...<BR>Otherwise, only but spikes and light "floating nets" wilol do...<BR>Good luck!

  12. Funny how Liberals, Democrats and Progressives want to change the rules depending on whether they favor their dysfunctional fanatical beliefs or not.

    Example:

There is a white elephant in the middle of the road and if they do not want to see it they will say: What white elephant? Not even after they crash against the massive fact of reality will they accept it as such.

It should be a comfort to all in Thailand (whether Thais, expats or sexpats) that Constitutional law will be adhered to in this and any case.

If he is entitled to immunity, so be it! Grow up and live with it!

    Let's start from the beginning...

I do believe that the Constitution states that, in order to qualify, any future MP must have cast a vote in the election.

Did JP cast a vote? No.

He therefore does not qualify and as he does not qualify, he cannot claim for immunity...

  13. Indeed, I will share coffee and biscuits with pleasure as there is far much more to say on the subject!

But...instead of limiting oneself at looking only at either Thai or Cambodian responsibilities, one should dig a little bit in the past and have a very serious look at Vietnamese and French involvments too!

This, perhaps, explaining oberkommando's views: http://cwcinternatio...by-thai-troops/

Krungbin, thanks for sharing this. I was certainly not aware of this inhumane act.

I was ignorant of events in South East Asia and only since coming to Thailand have I started to learn more. A visit to the Killing Fields last month was an eye-opener. This treatment of the Cambodian refugees would have presumably coincided with the fall of the Khmer Rouge.

I also understand that Thailand provided Pol Pot with a home in Trat.

Perhaps you can educate me further, over a coffee and biscuit, when you are next in the area.

  14. This, perhaps, explaining oberkommando's views: http://cwcinternational.wordpress.com/2010/05/17/khmers-in-norway-commemorate-the-deaths-of-khmer-refugees-dumped-in-dangrek-mountains-by-thai-troops/

Almost an exact repeat of events in 1956 albeit in a shorter time-frame.

Events then of course sparked by Thai Imperialism and settled by the International Court of Justice quite rightly ruling in Cambodia's favour. The Thais have never accepted the decision and have through the years had several petulant outbursts due to it.

Interestingly, it was through another, earlier Thai military coup that the worst events of Preah Vihear occured; the Preah Vihear Massacre of Cambodian civilians by the Thai Army, killing at least 3,000 and with another 7,000 missing.

Can't find a link to the 'Preah Vihear Massacre', please provide.

This one though gives some interesting background info on how the ICJ ruling was seen in Thailand

    http://preahvihearne...ed-the-verdict/

Sorry, I was trying to find some proof, but it seems that there wasn't such a Massacre. Please provide us with more information, haven't heard it before. :jap:

  15. I am not too far from where it takes place. Can still hear the sound of the guns... Brother of GF, who lives in Ban Kruat, had shells landing in his property yesterday and called half an hour ago saying he was evacuating his family as it is now 'really getting close"...

Cannot understand the RT Armed forces... instead of buying additional Viggen fighters and subs, they should seriously consider acquiring "ARTHUR" ( "Artillery Hunting Radar") systems! And very quickly!

  16. Although you describe your problem quite accurately, you did not mention if you are a French citizen or not. You only state that you are EU "citizens".

But if you are French, I would advise you to write a nice and polite letter to the Ambassador himself to explain the situation...

Ambassador : M. Gildas LE LIDEC

    Address : 35 Charoenkrung Road - Soi 36 - Bangkok 10500

    Tel : [66] (0)26 57 51 00

    Fax : [66] (0) 26 57 51 11

    Internet : http://www.ambafrance-th.org/

    Courriel : [email protected]

And/or to seek help with the representative of "L'Union des Français de l’Etranger":

    President : Michel CALVET

PO Box 1325 Nana Post Office

    10112 BANGKOK

    Tel : 00 66 2 630 72 60

    Fax : 00 66 2 630 72 53

    E-mail : [email protected]

If you are not French, as suggested by Timekeeper, I would seek entry into Europe through another country...
