She wants him punished to 'the full extent of the law' but we know what that means...1,000 Baht fine and back to work the next day as if nothing happened !
Really, you blame her for being raped?? Do you live in the 1950's? ????

The attraction of SE Asia for most retired couples is either the weather or the cheap cost of living (compared to Europe or USA).
Right, but only a brain dead idiot would want to live in the USA

OK, yes I hear what you are saying. I'm <deleted> at the attitude of a brain dead general trying to generate economical solutions he has know idea how to resolve!
Isn't this what started this?
I think I know what you are saying.
And yes, this is the mentality here, you know this. It won't change, but at least we have something ridiculous to read each day.

No matter how much the good general (as well as previous and post IO's) will try to screw we Farang the brick wall will still be there.
You want to bring in 200K per month?
GOOD LUCK TO YA! Me? Still have TM 30 and TM 47 to contend with.
You've missed the point slightly.
You knew that if you invested in Chanotes and more land than you can poke a stick at, there was no benefit to you in the eyes of the Thai government and with your visa status, but you did it anyway.
You can't then come and complain here that you haven't got what was never on the table.
I really wish you continued happiness, but when your wife or her family offer you a good land deal for a couple of million baht, then go ahead, just don't complain that it gives you no rights.
Accept what it is.
Back to the OP, don't get so worked up about the talk that they want to target the high spenders, it's talked about so much but never impacts the guys that are already here playing by the current rules.

Not bragging about it, just reflecting on the 20 years of investment an what it HAS NOT DONE FOR ME!
Well, that kind of makes my point doesn't it?

In saying that these have been, without a doubt, the best years of my life.
As far as I'm concerned it's my money and very well spent! So to the other detractors I say:-
"Your jealous, = who gives a toss."
You're right of course, I don't have any problem with how you spend your money.
However, it's a bit vulgar bragging about money and property, especially when the reality is that you don't really own most of the assets you claim to have.
So I stand by my original label, but I also respect your right to spend your money how you wish, however frivolous.

god and cash in the luggage eh? I bet he was trying to get around the import/export limits and not expecting his luggage would be search later. Looks like he rolled the dice and lost. A news reporter would not be so naive to check in gold and cash
What are you going on about?? It was a Domestic flight!!

From what I can see the orange car was actually nudged into the taxi, not as a result of evasive action.

Hmmm, and the 'Hotelier's association of the Eastern Seaboard' accounts for what percentage of the hotels in Pattaya?

Actually it is the lawyers responsibility to due diligence. Of course this being Thailand they are usually the worst crooks of all and don't. There was a similar situation in Koh Samui and there was no way to hold the lawyers accountable.
Ok, so what would the conclusion of your due diligence be, based on your post above?

Maybe they did carry out due diligence. Maybe they got a Thai lawyer to check the paperwork as confirm that all was well .........
Well, maybe they didn't carry out due diligence very well, maybe they should have researched a bit harder, maybe they have more money than sense, maybe they only have themselves to blame

I totally agree, but the Problem is, how can you do Due Diligence if most of the lawyers are corrupt as well.
Hmm, I don't know why I need to spell this out.. but,
All of this comes down to due diligence, bring in outside people, check with main government (not local) etc.. common sense really.
