  1. ^This. Note: 2 Thai witnesses. Check with Maneerat Travel on Soi Post Office to see if a translator still has a desk in the back, or find out where he went. He can do the translation and send it off to MFA for certification. Make sure the translation of your name matches that on other official docs, marriage certificate, chanote, etc. If not, they're going to have to match one way or the other. So that's all you need. I guess the thread will fill up now with stories from other provinces and assurances that you don't need no stinkin' yellow book. One of our fave topics. Don't mention pink card. But after you get the yellow book, you can go down the hall and get a pink card made for B60 or so.
  2. Maybe take the Peace Resort too? Nice enough place in the old days in that area but fell on hard times with the changing demographics. Kiss was a fixture in that area (Naklua Rd., corner T21 took, Naklua Rd again--failed) for decades. No real replacement for it.
  3. In the old days, before the tyranny of social media, when people were happier, water throwing was ubiquitous all over greater Pattaya, with "checkpoints" and kids. If you didn't leave, you really had to stay in or brave the gauntlet. I got soaked by the security guard once just leaving my building. Things have changed. Stay outside the bar areas, avoid passing by them, and you'll be quite safe nowadays. I went out & about several times as needed and encountered no water, powder, or ice thrown in my face.
  4. You can call for an appt. He's usually booked 2 weeks in advance. Warin's a man's man. Spends nothing on decor. No nonsense, no pampering from pretty assistants, no Thai moo baan atmosphere w/ chitchat. Zeroes in on the reason for your visit and goes to work w/ great efficiency. Doesn't look for extra procedures to sell you on, he's quite busy enough already. When finished, he'll say "finished" and turn away to wash up. You're left to get outta the chair and go out front to pay. But he's very bright and skilled, has a year's diploma in Implantology from UCLA, very honest, and his charges are extremely reasonable, maybe 'cause he's so fast he can do twice as many patients in a day as other dentists. Your intro to The Warin.
  5. Imagined massive importance in the minds of the loony left. Political attempt to apply state law to a federal matter, which the Feds already declined to prosecute. Will be overturned. Indictments aren't damning, no defense is presented, and a good prosecutor can get a ham sandwich indicted. Jan 6 already in trouble at SCOTUS. How much of "documents" can proceed, and proceed to where, is in doubt. 🙂 One word: Bitcoin. New companies, particularly in media, tech, and biotech, are often vastly overvalued long before they show a profit. Trump's wealth isn't dependent on TMTG. I doubt he's worried. Entrepreneurs are used to bankruptcies and ups and downs. You have to admire his resilience and strength in the face of relentless persecution by the left. Man's got balls. Also the ability to make lemonade out of lemons. Had a great campaign appearance recently. I imagine donations will increase. So let's do hope that justice is done and all these Dem political cases against him will be dismissed or overturned on appeal. And hope on the other hand that justice is done to the Biden family. 🙂
  6. Trump Legal Team Skeptical About Impartiality Of Juror Number Six
  7. I'm totally with you on that. Light is key. I could easily use a Chromebook for shorter trips. I often make do with just a tablet and sometimes a bluetooth portable keyboard. I have a cheap old tablet and a cheap, used, fairly light laptop for longer trips. So I wouldn't much care if a room maid steals those dogs: help yourself, baby. And good luck w/ the encryption, ha ha. At home, gotta have a good desktop. 🙂

    Gaming on Linux?

I can debug on Windows as well, not to mention WSL. So it turns out you really know nothing about serious gaming on Linux. Not surprising.
  9. Keep good backups (as you should anyway), run a weekly scan w/ Malwarebytes (or go premium), and Win 10 will be good for many more years. I might mention Linux as an option. It's come far and is quite usable. Lot of Windows software can run under Wine; or you can run Windows in a virtual machine. It's an effort, and you'll need to know what you're doing, but you can find and install Win 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021. It'll receive security support until 2031. Note: IoT. Grey market keys are sold by a few sources, or you can apply a hack (not recommended). I run a copy on my spare box; it's great, lacks the bloat and nonsense of Win 10 Pro.
  10. By actual IT gurus, not the self-appointed, as I know from reading the real computer forums daily. I didn't say they use it; many in fact use Linux; but they do hold it in fond regard.

    Gaming on Linux?

Any personal experiences here? Thinking about trying it with Nobara. Gets positive reviews elsewhere.
  12. Win 7 is still commonly held in high regard.
  13. Yes, it is, though I personally have only heard posters repeating it. Now If true, then nowhere to go but up, eh?🙂
  14. We have some great mods here and I hope they get a raise. I did have a run-in with one, but he improved. My only real complaints are that the bigots and prominent trolls are too well tolerated. But they would argue they need even more leeway to enjoy their bashing and spreading further bigotry. The other is the suppression of free speech in favor of modern political correctness and the liberal party line. COVID was the most egregious example.
  15. Well, that 10% represents a considerable number. Best not be misled by the well-justified negativity here on the forum.
  16. Yep. I once opted for a filling instead of crown. Dentist told me it'd last 3 years. Lasted 15, good mileage. Probably should have just got the crown, however.
  17. I've often thought that news about complaints from businesses harmed and from tourists disappointed is basically suppressed amid the push to promote Songkran. Pics and stories of the madness would get a lot more page views anyway. Sadly--I've had to reconcile myself to the fact--Songkran benefits a lot of businesses, some of those connected to the usual political & mafia entities. Overall, the economic benefits outweigh the losses. We'll never see the end of it. Promoted more than ever, in fact. He don't need hearing in that ear. Haw!
  18. You can figure that out. It is discrimination. It discriminates him as an undesirable from among the desirables, which he is. Immigration has the legal right to do. Why don't they cancel the visas of undesirable Thais? Figure that out too. Connections matter, Thai or farang or Hottentot. A wealthy Thai wouldn't have kicked the lady in the back out there in the dark for sitting on "his" stairs near the beach. If a Thai had "slipped," he'd quickly apologize, esp. to a doc; and the doc would have accepted it, as she probably would have had Fehr had done the same. She'd also have accepted a quick settlement. Fehr thoroughly annoyed her with his arrogance. True, as a respected, educated Thai she probably found it particularly annoying to be treated like a dog in her own country by a big arrogant pr*ck of a foreigner who has no innate right to be in Thailand anyway. Local Thais found it particularly annoying as well. He should respect his hosts--particularly a doctor. Kicking him out of the country will ensure he creates no more problems here. When a doctor was hit on a crosswalk in BKK, there was quite a big uproar and a nationwide drive to create awareness about pedestrians in crosswalks. All the major crosswalks in Pattaya were repainted and made much more distinctive. Had it happened to a Thai street sweeper, the response would have been quite different. Analogous cases in the West can be adduced. The killer of John Lennon--why wasn't he paroled for good behavior twenty years ago like other murderers? Chapman first became eligible for parole in 2000 after serving twenty years in prison. Under New York state law, he is required to have a parole hearing every two years from that year onward. Since that time, a two- or three-member board has denied Chapman parole thirteen times. Before his first parole hearing, Yoko Ono sent a letter to the board requesting that Chapman should stay behind bars and serve out the remainder of his life sentence. --Wikipedia And then you have the members of the Manson family. They didn't just murder some homeless people. Yeah, they're treated differently--for a reason. So whereas she probably wouldn't have pressed charges otherwise and been amenable to a settlement, now she made it a point to do so--which is understandable. Fehr brought the whole thing on himself and is no victim. Sorry; we really want to see him as the poor victim and whinge about xenophobia and imagine ourselves victims of mistreatment, too, as we often do on this forum.
  19. Sounds about right. Paid 18K for a zirconia crown in Pattaya. But I didn't want to wait for an appt with Dr. Warin.
  20. Lemme see. Do this: Build yourself a gaming battlestation. Many more examples here on a forum devoted to them: https://www.reddit.com/r/battlestations/ Hyperactive teenagers spend countless happy hours at their battlestations playing video games. Granmas play them; you can too. Good for your brain: slow the cognitive decline. Create a lil' home gym with a TRX, weight bench and coupla dumbbells, a few resistance bands, and an exercise bike. Watch Bodyfit by Amy vids. You got all the aircon you need, music, and videos. Get ripped, man; buy a new fitness wardrobe. Have a great sleep every night. Impressive all the wimmens whenever you deign to leave your condo. Should keep you occupied and enhance the quality of your posts on the forum.
