  1. Oh, but you have no proof of that. Always with the selection bias. On the other hand, Mr. Ball disclosing that he was allegedly initially assaulted by a tourist WOT???
  2. Lovely place, really. Yup, got some of those. Be afraid. True. Make it your home!
  3. Singapore isn't in favor with Brit tourist hooligans, however. Why is that?
  4. Hmm. I was referred there simply to save time and saw a young and quite attractive doctor for a minor issue. Quite good, no complaints. No doubt more senior docs are also working there, but I didn't happen to see any. The first issue would be then to find out if a doc w/ relevant expertise is there and when. If Somdej, as it's called, actually does answer their phone, then a Thai speaker could inquire. Otherwise, one would have to go there to find out. In any case, the Special Clinic is a good resource to have here in the Pattaya area and may be quite helpful for speeding things along. Definitely on the rise, Queen Savang Vadhana Memorial. https://somdej.or.th/th/
  5. As a historical note, maybe some old timers can remember, more than 2 decades ago, a wonderful grove of big trees once arching over a section of Jomtien Beach Rd. Very pleasant to drive through. It was an early casualty of the property boom.
  6. Off the wall: take a pic of the underside of the modem/router w/ the info and serial no, attach that. I had a problem once and had to send them that via LINE. Yes--it was surprising I needed to do it.
  7. Waste of time to reinstall, rather than simply upgrade, to the latest version of any major Linux distribution. And painful--few noobs can reinstall Linux w/o losing their data and configurations anyway. "Reinstalling" is either a useless hangover from Windows 98 or a resort for the incompetent, unable to tune/repair a current installation. Best not to upgrade immediately after a new release, another noob practice. Even the guru behind Nobara waits a month after the latest Fedora before he upgrades. As with all upgrades, make a backup before the upgrade.
  8. When it works. Suddenly stopped for me last time. Went down there (Jomtien), presented all the info, got the receipt. But last week it didn't work again. Reply said "incorrect date of entry/visa expiration." WTF? I used the same dates that they approved last time I was there. On the online form, visa expiration date isn't required. My entry date hasn't changed in a few years. So I'll be going again next week and will definitely ask what they want the dates to be (as opposed to what they really are) so I can start putting them in!
  9. Among gov't hospitals, perhaps. It's really come far from the old days. The old buildings seem to be abandoned for the big new building. It seems more bureaucratic than most, however. Get there at 6 AM, get a queue number. Have a form filled out for each visit. Stand in a long line to present your form re: your ailment. Stand in another long line to be assigned a clinic. Leave your papers w/ the clinic reception. Wait until your name is called, talk to clinic reception. Get assigned a doc, go wait near his/her office and listen for your name to be called in a couple of hours. No speaker system, so you need to stand or if lucky find a seat where you can hear. No message boards. Very few foreigners, little English (except for the docs), less friendly than Sirikit. Yes, the Special Clinic is a very good thing. I think you have to be referred from a doc in the hsp, but I'm not sure. Opens at 6 PM, but queue up at 5.
  10. Yes, WOT??? Here we just have another one o' our lads 'avin' a bit o' fun. Why spoil the fun? Our lad should have been given an understanding smile and waved through to carry on drunk driving and enjoying his meth. Get them Thais instead! After ALL the Thais are locked up, and the Red Bull heir brought to justice, THEN the police can dare suggest a Brit not drive drunk and possess meth. So our Brit excuse industry ramps up again, Whataboutism, first of all. WHY does yet another article about one o' our lads, aimed at informing our Brit members of Thai xenophobia and police mistreatment of the lads, not just report about Thais? It's incomprehensible. We wanna read about Thais misdeeds and enjoy one of our good ol' bigoted bash fests, hee hee. Of course there's gon' be drunk driving Brits w/ their meth. That ain't no news! Everyone's committed some youthful indiscretion. Let he w/o sin cast the first stone! People who live in glass houses, blah blah. Nothing to see here except more unjust Thai persecution. HOW MUCH MORE OF THIS CAN WE TAKE? Word's getting around all them council estates now that Thailand ain't the land of smiles, cheep beer, drunkenness, meth, and pussy any longer. The tourism industry and Thai economy are going to be devastated if they keep this up. A civilized country, like the paradise of the UK, knows to ignore drunk driving and meth possession by the lads. Brits should be free to be Brits! God save the King! It's OK; nothing to see here!
  11. You can worry more about the guys if that's your thing.
  12. No, has to be manually updated. Spybot will load it up and update it when you run Spybot. Old school, really. Now the big browser ad blockers use various current ad lists and update the blocker automatically. Windows firewall can block domains or URLs for those special cases.
  13. Yes, free after the trial. You can turn off a lot of stuff in the Settings, esp. the notifications. You still get some notifications, but they aren't bad. Note that it will continue to run in the tray unless you right-click the icon and select Quit. 72, that's pretty good!
  14. Well, I'd like to have more info about the stewardesses. Hope those lovely ladies are all OK.
  15. We might add to that examples of posting about things that you don't need to post about and that nobody cares about.
  16. Had a good run but went off the rails at the end.
  17. Only death and taxes are certainties in life, son. All antivir programs have their vulnerabilities, as paid subscribers to third-party apps have discovered to their dismay. Ironically, the apps themselves may become vectors of attack. (Or may in themselves be considered a virus, as in the OP's case.πŸ™‚) Amusingly, app support may charge subscribes a few extra hundred $ to eradicate a virus infection that the app was supposed to have prevented.😁 In fairness, that's more than M'soft support will do, AFAIK. And M'soft forums are practically useless. Other community forums can be quite helpful in solving most Windows-related problems, but the average user can hardly manage to Google effectively. Maybe AI will save us all. You Don’t Need to Buy Antivirus Software Above, I recommended additional periodic scans w/ Malwarebytes. It's never discovered any virus on my machine, but it occasionally finds PUPs. Note "Potential." In most cases, I don't really regard them as Unwanted, and their potential for phoning home comes with the territory.
  18. 'Course, many, including our loudest monkeys in the forest, are critical of Thailand but live here anyway. The reality is that M'soft products evolve over time, though not always for the better. The old Windows Defender that most of us remember from the old days was initially just a lil' anti-spyware program. Hence the whole industry springing up to provide real, effective antivirus software. By the time Win 10 came along, M'soft had its act together with "free" Microsoft Defender Antivirus and a serious firewall. It ranks sufficiently well in the standard tests, gets security updates almost daily, so that's about all that an average user needs, esp. one exercising due caution re: surfing habits, suspicious emails, and questionable downloads. It is what it is. Commercial products stay viable mostly by, besides fearmongering, offering more bells and whistles (or bloat) most of us don't really need and don't want to pay for. No one suggests, however--or cares--that if you're convinced, one way or the other, that you need more and don't mind paying more that you shouldn't just go ahead and please yourself; and, you know, sleep better at night. πŸ™‚
  19. That's actually the most common straw man argument used by our rabid anti-yellow book, anti-pink card zealots. No one has ever said that it is necessary. Many of us do find it convenient at times, however. Well, check w/ the office yourself. Maybe you have better manners and hygiene.
  20. Mine was (Pattaya) for motorcycle license renewal. W/ bank book I've used it to withdraw money over the counter at my branch of Bangkok Bank. Another institution: the post office.
  21. Easy to say, but begs the question of HOW to exercise. The point is to get better, not worse. Bob and Brad are experts and good 'nuff. You might read the comments to their vids for testimonials. Knee pain is a problem from time immemorial, w/ the same causes as ever. If any member here actually does any real work on the cause of the problem, rather than relying on meds and surgery for instant temporary relief from symptoms, that would be remarkable and laudable progress. Thai physical therapist? Good luck, but might help and be motivating. Before one pays a therapist, it'd then be a good idea, if it hasn't been done already, to see a competent orthopedist and get the x-rays and MRIs to help determine what therapy might be appropriate. Therapy, whether from youtube or the pros, takes time & effort.
