  1. Leather, vinyl too hot. You'll have to use a cloth cover anyway. I got a cloth-covered sofa from Ikea many years ago and it's been great. But I keep a washable cover on it as well. Nowadays, I think I'd prefer having a recliner or two. Think about it.
  2. Uninstall all that third-party antivir you currently have. You'll probably find your computer runs faster. Windows built-in security is enough nowadays. That said, you might get the free Malwarebytes (ignore exhortations to upgrade) and do a manually-initiated scan once a week or so. It's more sensitive about PUPs (Potentially Unwanted programs)., i.e., spyware.
  3. Why? Have you not yet figured out how to make a screenshot? 🙂 Also we need a pic of that supercomputer you were supposedly building,
  4. Try exercise & stretching. I swear by a couple of strong isometric knee extensions (2 min each) per week, and Poliquin step ups helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRvybsL8b-I Buy a slant board here, works: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/big-sales-3pcs-wedge-stretch-slant-board-anti-slip-calf-stretcher-slanting-yoga-block-i4707025746-s19405058492.html And knee stretches: https://www.healthline.com/health/exercise-fitness/how-to-stretch-knee#stretches And a little massage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxNO8ytjYh8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKtQJrWSW5k&pp=ygUeYm9iIGFuZCBicmFkIGtuZWUgcGFpbiBtYXNzYWdl Bob and Brad have a lot of vids about knee pain. They're good. Get the kneecap to stay in alignment. Things, esp at our ages, don't have to be 100%. Maybe they can never be, at this point. But just getting a problem under control so that it's basically OK and not getting worse will do.
  5. All you need, man. Me, I'll take the horny American Gen Zer, no-o-o problem. The Daily Show had an amusing satire on her, or Her. Vid opens at the time:
  6. Bargirl Thaiglish will be either incomprehensible beyond the usual simple phrases or too much effort to follow on any topic our monger would like to discuss w/ a virtual bargirl. Moreover, anyone interested in chatting w/ a virtual bargirl would have no interest in quantum physics and bound to resent any "posh" accents, such as David Attenborough's, on grounds of class warfare. For all the subjects of possible interest, notably birds, bonking, footy, fish 'n' chips, and bashing, not to mention anti-American slurs, Kev In Thailand's a good all-rounder. OpenAI: take note.
  7. OK for rank noobs, but bar girl chat alone will immediately bore anyone w/ the least experience. To the bar gril persona, add Kev in Thailand accompaniment for that inane low "mate" barstool blather re: birds, bonking, footy, fish 'n' chips, bashing: now you got a winner.
  8. They'll probably have a Geordie or Brummie speaker coming along for you soon. Maybe with a Pashtun accent for extra authenticity. In the meantime, a Kev In Thailand persona would probably do nicely for you. Lot of fans here. As he's deceased, his voice can be readily appropriated w/o legal ramification. Scarlett Johansson, now, had a problem, even though the voice used wasn't hers.
  9. I bought one of those old Dells (in absence of a suitable Thinkpad) off Lazada for about B4000 just to use during occasional travel w/ no worries about theft or accident. Installed Linux, been running great for about a year now. Battery was 90%. Recently I noticed Aliexpress has backlit keyboards for about B300, and I'm going to try one soon.
  10. A game isn't data, but a program, so not the same thing at all. The data would be your save game files, which some gamers regard as quite important, and any mods you've downloaded and applied to the game. That data isn't backed up anywhere unless you consciously do it yourself. Nor is the actual installation of the games on your drive with mods applied. If you bothered to download a modpack with 1000 mods and configured and applied them all to a game, you'd probably want to avoid going through that process again. Just sayin'.
  11. Not necessarily. You can Speed up your current machine. 12 Simple Tips to Speed Up Windows. Note: SSD, more RAM. Reinstall Windows, but remove the bloat. Change to a lightweight Linux for your OS. Not good 'nuff, then--enjoy your new laptop.
  12. Then start posting all kinds of leftist messages attacking Trump and defending Biden.
  13. Behind every component and finished product built from those components is first a product requirements document. Then there's product specification document detailing how those requirements are to be met. In fact, both will differ according to the product. The requirements and specifications for building a $20 PSU will be dramatically different from those for building a $70 PSU, for example, and therefore the latter will be of far greater quality. You may discover the differences for yourself in one of the teardown vids on the 'net. So, if you're going for a custom PC, you should first consult the PSU tier list, here: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ The "specifications" commonly given in product descriptions are vague descriptors or mere names. The average user should first do some research to find out what parts are being currently in favor among the knowledgeable. Here's one source: buildmeapc. Come up with a parts list and see what's available in Thailand. Or make a list of the parts in your proposed build and run them past the experts.
  14. No, he doesn't, and wouldn't, since he can use a free pirate program, a form of malware, to make Windows/Office think it's legitimately activated--until it doesn't think so. Similarly, other premium programs will be hacked copies, downloaded from pirate torrent sites. Our shrewd local forum pirates won't have a problem; free stuff, man. Follow their lead if you wish. Buying an OEM key from reputable vendors is quite OK, however. Most of our gurus will rightly suggest that, if buying from a Thai shop, you should install your own legit copy of Windows and your own legit copies of everything else--or bring it to the shop and watch them install it. First thing I'd do with a Thai build is to wipe all that pre-installed software. I'd do a scan on my boot stick afterward, too. Purposely using a computer with pre-installed malware is rather self-defeating, to say the least.
  15. Maybe not such a bad idea. Young vaper who required double lung transplant shares warnings as e-cigarette sales rise Many young patients sustain 'significant lung injury' after only short periods of vaping, doctors say
  16. Mmm. Not really the same specs, come down to it. In the custom build, the case and, most importantly, the power supply are junk. The software is pirated. Dunno about the other, not enough details. I'd take the Dell if I had to choose. I'm a big believer in custom builds, but their advantage lies in the selection of off-the-shelf known high quality parts, right down to the case fans. If not, the big brands are probably going to be better value, all considered. Some of the niche pre-builts are quite good First, research; then build.
  17. Now if you'd debloated your Windows from the start and kept it that way, tuned it up, and turned off all the apps running in the background, then it'd be running much, much faster, possibly comparable to OpenSUSE KDE. It isn't a lightweight distro for rejuvenating old hardware. That said, Linux does tend to outperform Windows in new installations, though you may not really notice enough to get excited about. Of course not. Heh. 'Course, first you'll need to find out how to take a screenshot. Out of the box, they're comparable. Linux offers far more possibilities for immediate customization. With some effort, however, Windows can look as good as you want to look. I remember one old buzzard (sensitive, so I dare not name him, lest he report me again), ranting some years ago about the UI change from Win 7 to 10. He was evidently unaware that Win 10 could be customized to look and act like his beloved 7. But he ignored the helpful info and left Windows in a huff for Linux. Mostly, that is. Yup, so I told you. And aren't in the least embarrassed to have such genius on public display. Now where's the imagined new supercomputer or even the parts? This 9-year-old already finished building hers, in less time no doubt than you spent posting all this nonsense: Oh, you may just go right back to Windows, with all the accompanying huffing and puffing. No particular reason to do that. The original is probably the safety net: still got Windows on it.🙂 And there's an excellent reason why not: it hasn't been built yet. If you actually have the parts, why not just finally take them over to JIB and let them do it for you? Your Windows is slow. Mine's fast and looks great. So as well my Linux. 🙂
  18. Pattaya2u, behind Tukcom, will probably take it off your hands. Besides repair, they also sell used stuff. https://www.facebook.com/macrepairbypattaya2u
  19. If a non-traffic cop wants to see ID, he’ll almost always first ask for a passport. Quick, easy, understandable. Since the law just calls for official ID to be carried, NOT a passport specifically, they’ll accept another form of ID UNLESS you’re under suspicion. Causes for “suspicion” can vary widely, but can be just “being a place where legally questionable activity has been occurring rather too often.” In that case, any old ID may not reveal your immigration status and may be dodgy anyway. Under suspicion means the probability of your overstay or being wanted for a crime elsewhere has increased. Your real passport may therefore be demanded. 'Course, carrying no ID ensures it will be as well. So then if you don’t have your passport with you, you’ll need to produce it within 24 hours. Wisely, they’ll not trust you to do so on the honor system, but detain you until somebody brings it to you. But if heavens! no one can bring it to you, then the police, for a service charge, will escort you to its location. Note that at no point will you be under arrest or charged or penalized simply for not carrying your passport. That’s not an offense. Not being able to produce any passport is, however, is a whole different matter, obviously. "Under suspicion." Up 2 u. Most people, including me, rarely do and wouldn't, unless necessary, such as for air travel or a visit to my local friendly IO. I use my pink card for most ID requirements. But I have a Thai DL and phone photos as well. BTW, I stay away from dodgy places and people. I try not to act suspiciously, but in my case that's no great effort.
  20. Well, turn them off. 5 minutes. You don't need to pay for Windows. Can run w/o activating, but no Personalization, and with a non-activated message. First, build your imagined new computer or, better, get someone to build it for you. Then install openSUSE, get it running, and prove you have it running. Then we'll think about LINE. Meanwhile, you have your phone and your other computer. Nobody cares. No, you aren't. You're planning to be back. And yawn! Planning and planning and planning and announcing and announcing and blathering and sticking in gratuitous youtube links for the drama you need. You may well go right back to Windows.🙃 After more announcements, excuses, and the usual fanfare. Same as other trolls dramatizing, in long discussions, their LEAVING Thailand forever after countless provocations and cruel mistreatment. Then, after further bashing from afar (supposedly), they come right back. Same old trick. But you're just having a lot of fun while thinking about Linux, or imagine that you are. You can continue doing that while you're using Windows--just as you are now.
  21. Hartman's law of prescriptivist retaliation, a variation of Muphry's law: "Any article or statement about correct grammar, punctuation, or spelling is bound to contain at least one eror [sic]."
  22. Can't solely rely on that. Organics & metabolism come too strongly into play. This recently: https://www.jneurosci.org/content/early/2024/04/18/JNEUROSCI.2059-23.2024 Although memory normally declines with age, some older people may have memory performance similar to that of people 30 years younger, and this phenomenon is often conceptualised as superageing I know, as I'm sure others do as well, intelligent, educated folks w/ active brains who nevertheless suffered cognitive decline all the way into dementia. Sometimes you can point to some obvious factors. Smoking & drinking, for example. So the resistance has to be made on multiple fronts. Get all the numbers good w/o meds, though we have a lot medication fans here: And the HbA1C 5.7 or less, normal BP and HR, normal BMI or waist/height ratio. Exercise, as noted, very helpful: Creatine known good: Creatine Supplementation and Brain Health A couple of others to consider: ginkgo biloba and lion's mane. Other than that, a nutrient-rich diet. Hit the polyphenols: Dietary polyphenols have been observed to protect the brain against such cellular alteration through the modulation of neuronal function against endogenous neurotoxins and inhibition of glial-induced neuroinflammation. --https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3372091/ You know, dark chocolate, tea, coffee, berries, red wine. Some extra anti-oxidants might be helpful, but you'll never know, having no clone to act as a control subject. And, yup, a brain needs exercise too. Video games, readily available. Video games show potential in improving key aspects of memory in older adults I suspect, w/o any real evidence, that the intensity of the game is a positive factor, just as it is with exercise and muscle building.
  23. More important, the ongoing traffic can see the cretin coming up ahead of them and prepare to dodge. Even one cretin can create havoc among the unwary.
  24. That's a start. The first photo will perhaps need a decryption key. No doubt you'll eventually learn how correctly to upload photos here, amidst blathering and gratuitous youtube links. But lack of such skill also reinforces pre-existing doubt your PC building skills, though it's only LEGO. Better frequent https://reddit.com/r/buildapc/ for useful advice and suggestions. Now, most builders don't leave their precious component boxes out on a walkway exposed to the elements. Rather, they proudly collect them inside over in the corner of a room. So then they won't inadvertently lose a component or forget to install it, the latter with mysterious, possibly unpleasant consequences. For example, this lady, as shown in the bottom left corner:
