Great idea if the circumstances allows it as far as letting a complete

stranger live in your house, when I'm asked what the best way to

learn English I suggest to them to watch English programing on tv

just to get used to the sounds of the words and how are they spoken...

Sorry but I cannot agree with that.Putting kids in front of a TV is in my opinion a bad move. This young guy is getting much better tuition with the interaction with their language teachers, and a host of dialects thrown in.I have spent a few yrs watching Thai TV and have learned nothing from it.Not even the Thai news programmes. With a live person you can ask questions about things yo don't understand,or you seem to be getting wrong. With the TV I often watch something and after a couple of minutes they move on and I'm left thinking "what the devil was that all about?".NO Good on that kid for what he is doing and enjoying and good on his parents for having that foresight----- I just hope the powers that be do not step in and stuff it all up for them

I and my gf of seven years look after her sisters daughter for the past six years, simply because I can afford to send her to a private school. I first met this kid  on her fifth birthday, really learned to love her  and want her to achieve her dream of becoming a teacher, watched her grow up and the kid is a major part of our life.

some scum bag like this I would not hesitate to kill. Happy this kid was smart enough to avoid a dreadful fate..

You have a 7 yr old girlfriend ???---- sorry ,couldn't resist it !!!!!!!!!!  Anyway good on ya for looking after  your Step-daughter.Sounds like you are doing a great job

I am one of those ex-American military men...an ex-para.  I was once accosted in Bangkok by two Thai youths who wanted me to hand over my wallet. I was walking back alone at 1 AM to my hotel...the Dusit Thani at the time...after meeting a friend at a nearby bar in the Saladaeng area. I'd had a few beers, but still had my wits about me.  The kids weren't brandishing any weapons either. So I said to them... "you'll have to take it from me", and assumed a fighting stance.  They looked st each other and decided to leave me alone. They made it easy...no weapons yet brandished...and there was only two of them. I could also sense their fear. But there is a place and time to be a hero or to acquiesce and walk away unharmed.

Well done yank----- love that attitude

I think the Thai guy overreacted ....  the chinese guy probably looked at him a few times and the thai guy took it the wrong way and therefore got upset.

A bit of a jerk if you ask me .....  he was showing off in front of other thais ...

I am sure the chinese guy meant no harm ... and will probably be glad to see arse end of Thailand.

Don't know where this "Thai guy" is,looks like and sounds like a Thai lady to me

This is slightly off topic. But only slightly!

I read recently that over 600 westerners die in Thailand every year. Accidental death; suicide; murder and many just unexplained. It seems excessive to me. Why so many and how does Thailand compare to other countries in this?

this sort of thing can easily be found on the internet. But hey why go to all that trouble when all you have to do is ask a question and sit back and wait for an answer.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe a bit off topic, however definitely related:

Ages ago I came across this set of photos (below).

The description in the link here is incorrect (and designed to be clickbait) but I couldn't find the original.

Apparently this was the cleaning of several corpses, removing all the soft tissue, to save money and allow them all to be cremated together to save money.

    Does this sound likely?

I am 72, living in rural Khampaeng Phet, a non smoker and no credit cards.

I quit smoking in 1970 and got rid of all my credit cards back in 2005.

The difference between the guy who died and me is that I am still alive, still married and still living with my wife and son.

Please tell me if my story seems fishy and try to explain why you think so.

Don't take too much notice of the replies here,I gave that up a long time ago---- I am nearly 81,my last credit card expired in 2007and had no wish to renew it here,I gave up smoking nearly 40yrs ago,but like you I am still alive (and well and happy here) and still living with my Thai wife of 10yrs,so perhaps there is something fishy about me too.

Such a lame response. Yes of course violence happens everywhere, that does not mean people cannot comment on state of affairs here. Places vary a lot in violence and the question should be is Thailand bad for violence? In my opinion yes it is, very bad. Never a day goes by when someone is not mysteriously killed in Pattaya and the amount of people who plunge to their deaths from balconies is a joke. I mean there are balconies all over the world and I have never heard this strange phenomenon anywhere else.

Tourists attacked in the street or heaven forbid even killed, handicapped beaten by gangs, motorcycle taxi gangs beating up people, taxi drivers going berserk, taxi drivers attacking women, street vendors ganging up on tourists, jet ski operators, ladyboy muggings,,, the list goes on and on.

Frankly Thailand is not safe. I am sure may will say "well i feel safe and so and so place is worse",, whatever. The reality is it is a place where violence is commonplace and I have not even got to talking about the road rage idiots and corruption which also effects your safety and security (are you confident the police are there if you need them?)

This poor guy is another victim of violence. I hope he recovers soon. Be safe everyone.

Thank you GAZZPA----------- Couldn't have put it better myself

I doubt that was their first rodeo. Without social media, I doubt anything would have been done.

Unfortunately I think you are right with the "social media" bit. Did anything happen to the last security guard that got beaten up.I feel so sorry for these people just trying to do a good job and they get beaten up FOR WHAT ????.Hope he makes a good recovery. <deleted> cowardly <deleted> Ten on one !!!!!
