  1. Unless you've lived in poverty for say, 35 or 45 years of your life, how would you know?

What an utter nonsense! Unless we are talking starvation-poor, crime is purely an act of greed and ego-centrism

The biggest thieves around are too often the least poor!

See your boy Thaksin for example.

I am indeed talking of starvation poor or near there to, there are hundreds of thousands of them in Thailand.

Yes I agree. I have seen this also

Correct, it would be more appropriate for these guys to turn their fire on the corrupt thai elite, and their masters, than the starvation poor.

But most expats do not have that experience which is why you are getting criticised. Other than suggest they take a look themselves and talk to more Thai people there is no answer.

Sometimes it is a human trait not to accept something outside one's own experience.

  2. Elite deserves a decent burial asap, and the punters should be repaid.

    Agreed 100% with that.

As one of the punters of TE, I can sympathize although not necessarily agree it should be buried. I do not see why I should be repaid.

What a very strange perspective you have :D

Because if you were repaid..........and you still dont need the money for example you give it to the many

homeless kids around Klongtoey ? better than it being in the pockets of thai elite crooks ? :)

No need to bring the democrats and their "masters" into this.

  3. I would be interested if anybody has a map showing the villages around Nong Wua So please.

I think it is on the 2314 road SW of Udon.

    Regards

  4. i went back to see jon at chern chim today as a freinds in hospital in udon. things seem to be going ok for him and he had quite a lot of new items in the place, ready meals, curries, lasagne, and some great fruit yoghurt pots. i bought some beef stew and bread rolls and a loaf along with some bisto ,mushy peas and pg tips tea bags,, do i know how to live it up or what?..i ate in the deli-cafe had a scotch egg platter-the s.egg was spot on and came with a pickle side order ,potato salad and a roll very nice 120bt washed down with a huge mug of tetley tea at 30bt... im thinking of relocating !!

I don't know where you live Rambler. But, an inexpensive Styrofoam cooler, with a block or bag of ice in it, will keep chilled items chilled, and frozen items frozen, for hours.

Last night for my dinner appetizer, I had about 1/2 the container of the Chicken Liver Pate' I got from Chern Chim, w/crackers. Umm, umm, good! Jon...whoever makes that stuff, give them my compliments. icon_biggrin.gif

HI MAXJAY. I live in a small town called Ku Muang about 30 km outside Buriram , im meeting again with jon at chern chim as he said he is considering francising his idea and a chern chim would be a great asset and business to do in or near Buriram with a francise i would be getting a ready made set up that will keep me here hopefully for life and jon has done all the leg work so to speak.i mean that in a nice way. i know hes bought into the suppliers companies who support him so as to tie up sole agent etc, smart move.. especialy for the imported products, and i certainly dont have the funds to do a place like what jon has done with all the cheese packing and other machinery.let alone the building its huge..

You live in udon i take it maxjay whats has chern chim done there? are the farangs (and thais) supporting the store ,jon seemed happy how things have gone so far but i would value your opinion as an outsider.

Good idea about the box but will have to be a big one 5555.

Knowing my luck I would end up with the Pattaya soi 6 franchise, in amongst all the other sausage grinder competition.

  5. Well yesterday I went to the Thai equivalent of Makro to have a look, its down the road from Carrefour big store has everything.

And in the freezers there are pies Cornish pasties proper sausages and the bacon is a lot cheaper

How long has the Carrefour been open in Udon?

Somebody told me it had only recently opened and they were on the waiting list to get a job there.

  6. hi all, was in robins nest, steves place on soi bukhaow, he is being really inventive to try and get people in, he's advertising on the board outside a real breakfast, starting with cornflakes, includes mushrooms, black pudding and everything as usual, plus any drink, not just tea, and as much as you want, limit 3 drinks, hel_l of a deal, 199 baht, i know because i get a couple of his great sunday lunches thru the week at 129 baht, check it out

I stopped in there about a year ago, I was really surprised at how good the food was. They also have wifi, just ask for the code. Been back about twice since, the only reason I haven't been back more often is that I don't like sitting outdoors to eat. If that's not a big deal, then this place is really good. Even the service is good, which seems to be on a steep decline all over Pattaya.

My advice would be to give Robins Nest a big miss.

Why, I have used the one on Soi Bukao for food a few times and found it reasonable.

So much so I also patronised the one down the soi off soi bukao towards 2nd road.

The steak one night was inedible, like shoe leather, but when I complained nobody wanted to know and so all I could do was pay and walk away.

    I never went back.

Anybody can get a one off bad un, but the staff knew me and wouldn't or couldn't right things.

Felt like I had been really ripped off by Robins Nest , so never again , however their loss.

Robins Nest establishment was ok until something went wrong, ... beware!

Oh yea, and how many years of thai style poverty are you speaking from ?

I wouldn't like to have been born thai poor, and for sure there would have been no help for me from the thai elite.

What have you ever sold in the beer bars of thai and cambodia?

  8. Whats the best way to get out to Nong Wua So for a day, from Udon?

How long would it take, and is there anywhere decent to stay there?

    Tx

It's approximately 22 km from the airport. If you don't have a car...then it's the bus or private hire. Some people drive motorbikes back & forth.

There is a nice bungalow type resort on highway #210 about a 1/2 km past the town. Sorry, don't know the name of it, but if you post the question on

    http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/accommodation-f6.html

I'm sure someone can help, many forum members live out that way.

Many thanks Max , I'll ask on the link.

Probably start off staying in Udon till I get my bearings then move out.

  9. I have had a few ok english breakfasts in Patts but the bacon is always rubbish.

Recentley in the uk found a cracker of a place

2 bacon, 2 sausage, egg, beans, plum tomatoes, mushrooms, black puddin, 2 toasts and tea, for £3.30.

    Burp !

  10. Recentley I was in a fish and chip shop in the uk.

The guy in front of me offerred a £5 note to pay for his purchase, but the assistant refused it saying it was the old £5 note which had been withdrawn fron circulation some 12 months ago.

She told him to take it to a bank to exchange it for a current valid £5.

The guy seemed genuinely puzzled and paid with a valid £10 note , and I have to admit that I did not know about this either.

so maybe the notes were not forgeries or counterfiet, but but just the old withdrawn design.
