Give me a 1 year visa and I will show.

    1) I have income from abroad only and can support myself.

    2) Clean criminal record in Thailand and my home country.

    3) Pretty much anything else, I got nothing to hide.

Just give me a chance to stay here.

What's stopping you getting a 1 year visa now ?

Not being 50yrs old and not wanting to marry a Thai just for Visa purpose?! wai2.gif

  2. The 38-year old high-flyer in post #12 above, it seems, would have no problem flying back to the USA and getting a 6-month validity 3-entry tourist visa in person at a Thai Honorary consulate which would be good for up to 9 months stay with requisite exits and extensions.

Could do this 1 time! No way you would get 3 entry tourist visas for 5years, not even back home...

From the original poster - - "..The order, posted in Thai (click here), states that the new rule is to come into effect at all immigration checkpoints including airports after August 12.."

My status - - I am age 65, retired, condo owner, and I get an annual retirement extension from immigration, no problem.

But - - What about my best friend's status? This is his profile - -

    ** Age 38

    ** American

    ** Wealthy

** Condo Owner here in Bangkok, has local banking, and calls Thailand "home".

** He is "functionally retired" (does not work) (but he is less than age 50)

** He currently flies in and out every 30 days; He stays one or two nights in Hong Kong, Singapore, or Bali, and he then returns through Swampy Boom, and he's been doing that for 5-years.

** He fits the profile that Thailand allegedly prefers - - Wealthy, clean-cut, dresses smartly, no tattoos, piercings, or other trashy appearance.

** On the other hand, he is not married. He rents a different high-end "escort" every so often, but he does not frequent bars. He doesn't precisely fit the negative "sex-pat" image.

** He does not drink, nor smoke, nor use drugs.

** He's never been in any trouble anywhere, zero criminal record.

What should my friend do? Is he at risk after August 12th ?

I suppose that he could use one of the many Thai Attorney Visa Services, and get a fresh one-year Non-O or Non-B every year, but that seems to really be illegal, given that most of these services mail your passport off to some Thai embassy for you.

Or, I suppose that he could form a Thai corporation, and pretend to work as a "consultant", and get a Work Permit, but again, he doesn't work, and he doesn't want to be forced into telling lies and cheating the system.

So - - What should my friend do? Is he at risk after August 12th ?

    Thanks,

    JD

I don't really understand why people like the 38 year old friend of yours think they have or should have a right to stay just because they have a bit
    of cash in the bank.

If he wanted to work, open a business and employ people, pay taxes and genuinely contribute in a meaningful way there would be legitimate routes to stay, and even PR and citizenship if he wanted it.

Too many people here seem to have the attitude - I have cash, am white, and therefore entitled.

You are just jealous coz they are living the good live and are 30 years younger than you, arent you...

This is the twenty first century. Many people are now making their living on the internet, making their money from other countries and living in Thailand spending their money. These people have no legal means of living in Thailand. Even if they are on a non immigrant O visa, they are still breaking the law, because they don't have a work permit. Thailand should welcome these people. They are not taking jobs from Thais. Most of them make a lot of money and thus spend a lot of money in Thailand helping the economy. Quite a few live in rural areas where their contribution to the economy is well appreciated. Thailand should change their immigration procedures welcoming these people. They should issue work permits for working on the internet and issue non immigrant B visas for this purpose. If the individuals can show proof that they have brought an appropriate amount of money into the country they should get an extension of stay visa. Thailand should also offer an extension of stay visa for the purpose of retirement to any age level if they meet the financial requirements. Many people are inheriting large sums of money from their parents and are retiring early. These people want to live in warm country and many choose Thailand, but have no way of getting a legal visa.

Sent from my i-mobile IQ 6 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

And I think they also forget to pay income tax in Thailand.

Can you enlighten us how to pay income tax without a work permit?

Not the first time Nick got attacked isn't it. Probably there are reasons for that it's always him who get singled out

Well I wouldn't call him reporter, I would call him red activist.....

Before he posted on TV and only pro red, no matter what.

He is a red activist and not just a reporter, he commented the 2009/2010 protests from the red shirt side, and is the author of the books Red vs Yellow Volume 1 and Red vs Yellow Volume 2 where he clearly takes sides with the red shirts.

  6. Carry a small stick... either bamboo or plastic, no need to actually hit the dogs but they will retreat if you swing the stick at them... thats how the locals here and guys from the Thai Boxing Gym running around here in the neighborhood do it...

Many farangs don`t want to marry their girlfriend. Marrying just for getting a one year visa, is definitely a wrong reason.

    <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Get a year visa. AINT HARD

how do you get a year visa?

marry a Thai, get a job here, retire here are among a few ways.

Many of us are also under the age of retirement, and some people doesn`t meet the money aquirements for that kind of visa.

So many people fall between chairs here, so it isn`t that easy.

Totally agree, especially if under 50 years old... And: No, not everyone needs to work until 50 but can retire, earlier, much earlier.

  8. Thanks for sharing your experience. I will guess I will transfer income into a Thai bank and then just try it!

Buying used is not really an option, have you seen the prices - unless anyone knows where to buy used cars at decent prices??????? Its not like the UK where you can pickup a run around car for under £1k! - some beat up 20 year old corolla here seems to hold value close to £4k - mad!

Coz it costs next to nothing to fix whatever is broken....

Suthep mention May 14, which I find curious as earlier tonight my wife said that on 14 or 15, everything will be over. And she's a Red Shirt.

How can be someone still a red shirt after all what Thaksin and the red shirts did?

redshirt wife?? I wouldn't even want a redshirt gf...
