  1. If its' an original '57 , I would be very careful of the pressure changes and temperature changes it will be subject to. Definately carry on and maybe wait for it to acclimatise before opening the case...and then always in cool and not too humid surroundings.

Yes it is genuine. I would love to bring it here as I am sure this will be its last place of resting. I understand about aclimatisation. My concern has always been a customs official who is a guitar buff and knows serial numbers. You think that is impossible. I had a friend bring in a set of Ping golf clubs. Claimed they were 5 years old. Sorry as the customs said, due to the serial number made last month!

  2. I have been away from CNX for 10 years. I am amazed that long timers don t know PUN PUN.

I had never heard of a veggie restaurant with a similar name.

John is an absolute gentleman and his food is great. Best breakfast in CNX. Many a happy day drinking the amber nectar and shooting the s---.

  3. The title says it all really, oing to Samui for 6 months at least (Jan to July) any ideas on how much a golf membership would be for this time?

    cheers

If the golf memberships in Samui are any thing like the price of everything else in Samui, the word inflated comes to mind. You can golf around Pattaya at a lot of courses for around 7oo baht these days, its called competition, Samui and Phuket have none, hence the grossly over priced green fees, and food, and everything else ,from tattoos to sunglasses.

THAT was a handy reply, great information ,really, pattaya ,the sleeze pit of thailand attracts all the cheap charlie european idiots, they can have the cheap golf, keeps them away from here.golf in lamai -9 holes but beautifull views with buggie, caddy is about 1800 bht, cheaper for 2 people.santibury is also not cheap but has discount days-wed,thursday i think ,fees are about 1500 bhr 18 holes, hope that helps a little.

Sorry is Lamai a 9 hole course and are the prices quoted for 18 holes? Must be a well keep secret as every guide book only mentions Santiburi. General location?

    Thanks

  4. In Pattaya a few years ago. one Billy Idol (look him up in Wikipedia) rented a jet ski. Being Billy he totaled it. The Thai press was full about how these irresponsible rock stars behavior. Roger C from the Bangkok Post praised Billy and said he had done the Thai tourist industry a great service by getting rid of one of these infernal machines. Circa 1985!!!!!

Completely off-topic, but according to Behind The Music on VH1, Billy had to be removed from his penthouse suite (full of drugs and ho's) by the Thai military after being sellotaped to the mattress of the hotel room bed.

    Go Billy.

Of course, being minted and staying in a more desirable location makes him a more desirable tourist regardless.

    My Idol.

Must try that. Sellotaped to a mattress. Beats the sh-- out of wrecking a jet ski :)

  6. Arrived at Phuket airport a couple of months ago on holiday and I saw the big advert for his restaurant. Said to the wife, we must go there, unfortunatley no time. I thought his cooking programs were a breath of fresh air.

    RIP

    PS

Was he ever seen in his Restaurant in Phuket?

  7. I have not read past the first post. It is the same BS that TVeers post all the time. Two complaints in the same post. Which one is the bitch? If you want to bitch about immigration please use a dedicated post.If a taxi bitch is what you want please use a different post.

I have traveled around a bit and Thai immigration are the only country that lets plonkers that can not even fill in an arrival card correctly do so at the desk. And give instructions.

Every where else it is get to the back of the queue. (and of course they have no pen!). As the poster can post here, his/her English should be OK.

Like I said,I have not read past the first post so I am sure some one has repeated the above.

Now the taxi touts at BKK. Hang the lot of them. Show no mercy. They are a disgrace to Thailand. I think about countries that are supposed to be below Thailand standards. In the ones I have traveled to, I have NEVER had a greeting as I get in BKK from the ambassadors of the country.

Sorry I peeked at the last post.

What has how to open a case/bag got to do with immigration/taxis . Open a new topic.

  8. Please bare in mind that this 1979

Being a keen windsurfer, the first thing I did on arriving in Pattaya was go sailing. Being thrown of the board I suffered I grazed knee. In the middle of the night I awoke with the most agonising pain I have ever experienced. To cut a long story short I had to call a doctor. I will always remember his words. " You went swimming in Pattaya Bay. Don't you know it is the most polluted water in the world". It cost 15,000 baht to be able to walk again. I have never swam in any sea since.

I am sure the bay is the same now as then.

  9. Not so much a joke as a trueism

Having problems with my swing I went to see my local professional. After hitting a couple of balls the old pro said, "You know Bill, if you could slow your swing down to a blur I might be able to see what you are doing wrong"

  10. My advice would be to try and and live in different places for a minimum of three months to see where best suits you. To commit to live in a foreign country that you have spent minimum time in is risky.( That's what I did). If you want to work, BKK is really the only option, unless you can work from your home or want to teach.

I lived in CNX for 17 years and thought I was set for life, but the traffic, smog, piles of garbage on the streets and of course the wangkers finally got to me. I am sure the rose tinted glass wearers in Chiang Mai will deny that it was like that. I moved to Hua Hin which is completly different to CNX but still has problems.

Good advice and I don't intend to commit to anything in the first 12 months, other than a rental agreement, or perhaps an HP for a car.

Unless Chiang Mai seems to me a good place to bring up my child and educate her I guess we'll be back to the UK prior to the British compulsory school age. Am in fact applying for London school enrollment this week, just to keep on the safe side.

I didn't notice the garbage issue when I was there and I'm intrigued about these "wangkers".

How are they defined and how can they "get to you"? Where they live, where do they go, and what do they do? :)

I did not realise you had kids, sorry. Yes give them a UK education. People bitch that the UK education system sucks, but it is miles ahead of Thailand. My son used to bring homework from his Thai school that even as an uneducated plonker like me I could see it was incorrect. International schools way out of my league

The garbage issue was a few years ago now, but it was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I am sure present residents will (land)fill you in.

And then there are the wangkers (rude language not allowed). They are everywhere.

  11. Places like Pattaya offers extreme adventure, sports, entertainment and nightlife to thousands of

leisure-starved tourists annually. Often passed up for its boisterous charm, Pattaya is the one place where

travelers of every budget, yet limitless imagination can enjoy the finest in culture, eco-tourism and revelry.

Amelia - have you ever been to Pattaya? If so - please could you point me to where I 'can enjoy the finest in culture'?

I thing Amelia works for TAT Pattaya division.

To show how much Thais know about Pattaya the head of the Thai Ladies Golf Association when interviewed on Golf Channel as to how they got such big names for the Honda Classic she replied " The girls love to go shopping in Walking Street".

That could be more correct than you think, have you seen some of the "girls" on the LPGA?

As you know so much about the personel preferences of lady golfers perhaps you could indicate in the above list who would find walking street to their liking. Of course irefutable proof is required

  14. Just caught a bit of a program on BBC. A company is investing 18 BILLION dollars to make Macao the entertainment centre of Asia

With the Marina complex in Singapore it got me thinking, what has the Thai government done in the last 20 years to boost tourism? Five star hotels and higher quality restaurants not included as these are normal privately funded

  15. Thanks

You have restored my faith in TV CNX. All replies noted. As I said it was not a wind up and my wife is Thai (Too much of the good life) As Arthur in Minder used to say "Her indoors must be obeyed"

    PS

I told the wife there would be no responce

  16. Sorry but have not been in Chiang Mai for a long time now, but my wife craves a really good high tea.

Her particular favourite is scones with raspberry jam and cream. Last time in Chiang Mai we tried all the five star hotels but although the scones were ok and the cream was available, nobody had raspberry jam. If she brought her own jar of jam, would the hotel object or apply a corkage charge?

Also I would love a REAL English breakfast. You guys know exactly what I mean. A real beef or pork sausage not a Thai CP rossette.

baked beans, back bacon, grilled tomato, mushrooms, eggs fried to perfection.

    Thanks in advance.

    PS

Have read the Mad Dog posts but the ambience does not sound exactly what I am looking for.

And before anyone thinks this is a wind up, all of the above are available in all the 2+ star hotels in Hau Hin.

OK the corkage is a wind up. Sorry Kevin.
