  1. Hi

i received a tourist visa from the Thai embassy in London last week. I can't remember what i wrote on the application form, wether for a 60 day or 90 day visa. The visa doesn't state the length of it's validity.

    It states:

    Type Of Visa: Tourist

    Category: TR

    No. Of Entry: 3

How long is it valid for?? The Thai embassy website site doesn't seem to help me either.

If anyone can shed any light on this mystery, i'd appreciate it.

    Cheers

  2. Ouch, and I complained about my 140 GB drive just recently ;)

320GB laptop drives start at about 1400 THB, however, this is with SATA 'connector', you might still have a laptop with PATA (aka 'IDE') connector - I see a 160 GB for 1600 THB listed at JIB. Get a cheap external enclosure for your old drive (500 THB), makes the transition more smooth and you can use for backup later!

And of course somebody has to swap it (5 minutes) and 'move' or reinstall your system and data (hours..).

If i knew what SATA and PATA connectors were and what JIB and an external enclosure were i might even be able to solve the problem!

I've got a Compaq Presario x1000 can anyone recomend a laptop drive? :D

  3. I need to free up space on my hard drive but i don't know which programs i can safely delete. I don't know what they are or what they do!

    I have:-

ATI Control Panel 13.91 MB (What the hel_l is that?)

Compatibility Pack For The 2007 Office System 129 MB (Sounds important but i have Microsoft Office Enterprise installed and that's already 623 MB!)

COWON Media Center-Jet Audio Plus VX 54 MB (Not sure i'm using this)

    Java™ 6 Updates 3,4,5 & 20 Total 511 MB (Do i need all that on my computer?)

J2SE Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 10 120 MB (This is another Java application i know but another 120 MB??)

    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable x86 9.0. 30729.17 10 MB (What the *&%# is that?)

OmniPage SE 45 MB (Again, what the hel_l is that?)

ProCoder 3 12 MB (What does that do?)

Synaptics Pointing Device Driver 25 MB (Do really need this?)

There's more of course but these are the ones i have questions about.

    Cheers for any help

  4. Depends exactly what you expect from your holiday and what you want to do.

I was in Goa last year and i was in Boracay a couple of months ago. I wouldn't return to Goa. I was staying in budget accomodation and i found it to be substandard. Goa generaly was poorly kept, dirty and untidy but then it's India-what do you expect??!! If you stay at top end hotels and use their beaches then i'm sure the experience would be better.

Boracay on the other hand was great. Beautifull beach, can get crowded and not as cheap as Goa if that is an issue for you. Loads to do on Boracay, water sports and nightlife. Remember it's a small island so limited for tours and exploring.

  5. I'm fed up paying inflated investment advice from financial advisers and i now want to 'go it alone'

I'm not a novice, i have quite a bit of experience in this area but feel i could use some reliable help/guidance/information as well.

Where can i find it online? i'm especially looking for investment strategies and recomendations for cautious, moderate and agressive investors.

    Thanks for any help

  6. i live in one room apartment. i have got a new mitsubishi AC, TV, small refrigerator and a small music system. i have hot shower but i don't run everyday.

I turn on the AC every night for about 10 hours a day.

Last month my bill was whopping 2300 baht. i think it is too much. They are charging 7 baht an unit.

the rate is roughly 3 baht per kwh, or 3.5 with tax and other charges

Any idea how many kwh per unit?

  7. I have a concept that i think would lend it's self to a street 'food cart' operation. I have a friend of mine (Thai national) who would be 'hands on' and a partner so no work permit issues for me. It's obviously a 'low start up' idea but i think it could lend it's self to a street food operation and possible expansion

Before i commit myself, my question is, does anyone know what kind of permits etc. is necessary to start up a street 'food cart' operation and where to get them? What to expect in the way of 'bungs' to the police etc?

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?

    Any observations welcome.

    Cheers

  8. I'm using money in the bank. The funds are there, 800,000 baht as stated in my bank book.

When renewing, is it true that the funds must not fall below 800,000 baht for the 90 days prior to application or 60 days?

Do i need to take a letter from the bank with me or is just the bank book okay?

    Anything else i need?

    Cheers

  9. My non immigrant 'O' visa will expire on 23rd September. I will be renewing it for the first time. I am retired in Thailand.

Can someone please tell me exactly what i need to take to immigration to renew it?

Obviously passport and completed application form but what else do they require?

Also, i live near to Fortune Town on Ratchada, where's the nearest immigration office to me that will process this?

    Thanks for any replies.
