Sounds like you already have a re-entry permit, but you should post  a picture of the passport page here - so that one of the more expert members can verify.

Thank you, I think I have the re entry but I'm just checking. I've just answered Dr. Jack who kindly sent a photo of his permit

  2. Good day,

I am a little confused regarding the need for a Thailand Re-entry permit, I want to go on holiday to the UK end October

I came into Thailand beginning October 2022, on a Non Imm O visa. I applied for the Retirement extension and was accepted.

The stamp in my passport is good until 13 Jan 2024. I see on the stamp it states Re-Entry permit, number of Persons - One, number of Entries-Single.

My question is, do I have to get a Re-Entry Permit before leaving Thailand?

    Many thanks for any advice

Your spinal stenosis would definitely be considered a pre-existing condition and likely lead to exclusion of all spinal problems.

Spinal Stenosis is a chronic condition. It dos not go away (though some treatments may reduce or eliminate associated pain) and tends to worsen with age.

It helps to understand the insurer's concern. Premiums are calculated assuming the insured is at no more than average risk for any type of claim.  Any underlying or past condition that puts you at more than average risk of a particular problem  undermines that calculation.

People often mistakenly assume that because a problem was cured, or is not now requiring treatment, it does not matter for insurance purposes. Sometimes this is true (e.g. a broken bone years ago due to an accident that has fully healed) but in many cases if does alter the odds of future problems.  For example, having had a kidney stone once that was removed or passed, still significantly increases the risk of future stones.

If an insurer deems that a prior or pre-existing problem affects your risk of a claim in future they may:

    - still insure you but with a specific  exclusion

    - offer to insure you at a higher than average premium

    - give you a choice of either the above two things

    - decline to insure you. This tends to occur when the pre-existing problem is one that increases risk for multiple diseases/potentially affects multiple body organs.

Insurers do differ in how they treat/view the same medical history. Thai insurers tend to be the most restrictive/least nuanced, in part because their reviews seem to be done by non-medically trained people. The better international insurers have medical panels who review applications, often asking for additional  detailed records of pre-existing or prior illnesses before making a decision.

Thanks Sheryl, yes you are correct, most people probably do think once it's ''cured'' then the problem is finished. I know I did.

Yes, the condition for which treatment was sought pre-dated the inception of the policy. An insurer would expect this type of condition to be declared.

In that case how far must one go back in one's medical history, is there a time limit?

  5. 4 minutes ago, Etaoin Shrdlu said:

It would depend upon several things. Did you declare spinal stenosis as an existing medical condition when you took out the policy? If so, did the insurer exclude all treatments of the spine, or only spinal stenosis or related conditions?

Is your policy issued by a Thai insurance company or one from overseas? Depending upon the jurisdiction, there may be limits on an insurer's ability to cite non-disclosure as a means for denying a claim. Under the Thai Civil and Commercial Code, an insurer can void a policy or deny a claim for material non-disclosure. There is a five year time bar for insurers to cite non-disclosure, but I'm not sure whether the time bar is absolute or pertains only to unintentional non-disclosure. Insurers in other countries may be subject to differing time bars or none at all.

    Thanks you

It was really a hypothetical question, brought on by my wifes experience,  but I am having some trouble with my. I would think it should be assessed of where on the spine the op was for, but I've found in my short time in Thailand the rules are quite different.

They might even cancel your policy if they find it's an undeclared pre-existing condition, even ask for a refund of any claims paid to date on anything even unrelated

They would call it a preexisting after 5 yeas? The operation was a success and no problems since.

  7. Good morning,

How do the medical insurance people determine what is a preexisting condition?

Five months so my wife had some trouble with wrist, no operation just an injection. We did not have insurance at the time.

Recently a  bone spur stated developing on the same wrist, an operation was called for.

On contacting the Insurance I was told it is a preexisting condition. Arguing didn't get me anywhere

except to the hospital cashier to pay Thb70,000.

My question ---- 5 years ago I had Spinal  Stenosis operation If I had to go for an operation on my spine now would

the insurance company pay for the procedure, or declare it a Preexisting condition ?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you

Losaar Plus combines losartan and hydrochlorothiazide in a single pill. Both losartan and hydrochlorothiazide are commonly available and sold over the counter in Thailand, although they may not be found together in the same pill for your convenience.

Thank you. I contacted my doctor in S.A with the information from other people.

He has advised going for Amlodipine 5mg.

    1. Losar Plus 100/25 is a mixture of:

    • Losaratn 100 mg
    • Hydrochlorthiazide (HCTZ) 25 mg

You can get this in Thailand under brand name Fortzaar but it is an expensive import. You can save a lot of money by instead buying losartan and hydrochlorthiazide separately. There are a number of locally made brands of Losartan: Losartan GPO, Loranta, and Lanzaar being the most common local brands. careful on the dosage as it comes in both 50 and 100mg tabs.  It is nto at all hard to find, your problem was asking by foreign brand name.

Hydrochlorthiazide I think comes only as GPO brand and costs next to nothing but only large pharmacies carry it.

    2. Pendine 5 as others said is Amlodopine.  There are too many local brands of this to even list. Just ask for "amlodopine 5 mg", Thai brand. Every pharmacy has it, even very small ones  (though Boots and Watsons may only have expensive imported brand).

You'll want either #1 or #2 not both.

As for pharmacies, I can't say for Minburi area but some  good ones for local generics further into the city are:

    • Por Bor Pesat pharmacy on Sukhumvit 71, Klong Tan, at the intersection with Petchabury/Pattanahkhan Rd's, even soi side..the very last storefront before the intersection.Their prices are so low there is usually a line and they have a queue numbering system.  Worth the trip is you have a large quantity to buy.
    •  Roong Rote Pharmacy (รุ่งโรจน์เภสัช).Soi On-Nut (Sukhumvit Soi 77), away from Sukhumvit Road, about 40m into the soi coming from Sukhumvit on right side. Large stock of reasonably priced generics. Theer are also 2-3 other pharmacies right near it. Accessible from BTS OnNut station.
    • Sukhumvit near Soi 2, large pharmacy sort of across from the expressway entrance.
    • Rama 4, north side between Lumphini and Klong Toey MRT stations, near the footbridge.
    • Wholesale pharmacy on Pradiprat Road, just a short distance from Huay Kwang BTS, and on the Pradiprat portion opposite of Big C.  Walking from the main intersection, the pharmacy is located about 60 meters on the left.
    • S.C. Drug Store on Rama IV between Surawong and Silom

There are also a number of pharmacies on Ratchawithi near Victory Monument (east of the Monument, opposite the hospital).

You might also just try inputting your address in Google maps and then looking for nearby pharmacies but as mentioned avoid Boots and Watsons. They usually won't have HTZ and their brands of amlodopine and losartan will be more costly.

Or if you prefer just order online from one of these:

    1. https://medtide.com/

They have all the above drugs. You have to create an account first then searcjh.

    2. https://medisafepharma.com/

probably has all of it but you have to use the Messenger chat to ask them. Online search doesn't work

    3. https://bangkokdrugstore.com/?s=amlodipine

      https://bangkokdrugstore.com/?s=losartan

they do not have HTZ but do have the Fortzaaz combo pill if you don't mind the added cost

All 3 of these places are reliable and prompt.

For future reference never ask for a foreign brand name in a different country. Ask by the chemical (generic) name. It will show ion the package right below the brand name.

    Thank you very much Sheryl

    It's produced by Berlin Pharmaceutical.

Yes it's a company in Bangkok.

It's available with 5 or 10 mg. Dirt cheap. 100 tablets for 350 or so.

Sounds great. Is this the equivalent of Pendine 5mg? Where d you buy yours, do most stock it?

You do not need a prescription for blood pressure medication in Thailand.  You can buy at a pharmacy over the counter.

But local brand names may differ from what you are used to. Please list the names of the medications so I can advise specifically.

Also you will need to go to a large Thai pharmacy. Not a Boots or Watsons or small pharmacy.

Thank you, any advice you can give will be appreciated. Medication is from South Africa

I had Losaar Plus 100/25. Then change of doctor put me on Pendine 5mg. I don't know why the change, both did the job.

If possible please let me know about large Thai pharmacies. Perhaps in the Min Buri area

  12. Good day, I need to find a doctor who will prescribe for me blood pressure medication.

I have some left over from my home country but the pharmacies I've don't stock anything life the stuff I have.

I think it best if I see a local doctor and he can prescribe what I need. I just have to find a doctor. I would appreciate if somebody please help.

I am in Khan Na Yao off Rachada-Ramintra Road.

    Thank you.

  13. Good day,

I am now on a retirement visa here in Bangkok and am looking for advice on how to find a doctor who will prescribe on going medication for high blood pressure.

In my home country I could get a prescription for 6 months, getting the medication every month. Is this possible in Thailand?

Medication I brought with me is enough for another month, after that I will need more.

I have asked several pharmacies if they have the same as I am using without success.

I would appreciate it if somebody can give me advice on where I can find a doctor who can prescribe the required medicine.

I live off Rachada-Ramintra Rd, Kha Na Yao area. Obviously better if I can find a doctor around here, but anywhere will be good.

    Thank you

Get an offshore bank account to deposit your working salary into, transfer into Thailand living expenses, I used to do 10,000USD per transfer.

    No tax obligations anywhere.

Standard Bank Offshore is inexpensive to set up

Yes, thanks, seems about the way to go. Ive been in touch with Standard IOM.

Your allowed to bring $20,000 to Thailand without declaring it. As I understand money being brought in is not taxable unless it exceed then $ 20,000 and that would be up to customs officer . What is taxable is the money you make in Thailand like interest from your bank account here . But let someone on here agree or disagree

    Many thanks for all repies.

Any money earned outside Thailand will be subject to tax if brought  into Thailand in the same tax year as earned.

So if you could afford to keep it outside Thailand until the next tax year, it would not be subject to tax.

Thank you. I can do that. How would I prove that I has earned before that tax year, a pay statement?

Doing it that way could I then just transfer it from wherever to one of my Thai accounts? Thanks again

  17. Good day,

I am in Thailand on a Non Imm. O Visa, retirement. I have been offered a short term, possibly 3 months, away from Thailand.

I would please like to ask what is the tax situation if I bring the salary into Thailand. I would be paid in US$, I have a US$ account here also a Thai Baht account.  What is the best way to bring that money in, taxwise. I have no other income aside from pension. Any advise would be appreciated, thank you.
